  1. With the talent that Deion was able to bring into CO, if he had chosen USF, we might have gone undefeated this year. Would have made his stock even higher for an inevitable P5 gig.
  2. Speaking of Michigan, I don’t watch any football outside of USF, but Joel Klatt shared a story about what happened after Michigan’s guard went down with the leg injury that’s worth a listen to. First :05 ish minutes of video.
  3. Bigger crowds (and quality of opponent) is the difference between watching USF vs WVU in 2007 and watching USF vs Temple in 2023. If you know, you know (as I’m guessing you do)…it’s tangible. Fair with ticket prices but I’d donate an organ right about now for a rerun of the glory years.
  4. He got the job because he knew someone, like most executives. Not because Michigan is 1 of 70+ schools with an AAU.
  5. Refer to highlight: clear and definitive; real. Playing quality opponents with bigger crowds is certainly real/tangible.
  6. Actually…who you know and who likes you is the most likely way to move up in most business. Those relationship are built on things that are normally not work related…like sports. For example, I know the head of investment banking at a local financial firm loves Michigan. I know this because he mentions Michigan football in meetings any chance he gets. Guess what he’s never mentioned…Michigan’s AAU. Why? Because no one outside of a few academic departments benefiting from research grants actually cares.
  7. Essentially enjoyment. A better Saturday experience and the ability to participate in water cooler talk again. In the event you are focused on word choice, I’m using tangible as defined in yellow.
  8. I’ve yet to see anyone personally identify an actual tangible benefit from it. Wikipedia says the biggest benefit is “prestige” lol. Outside of that it looks like AAU schools get more research grants. Seems extremely narrowly focused compared to the benefit to the school and all alums from having a top tier athletic program. PS I’m still waiting for my Fortune 500 employer to send me my congratulations and pay raise…unbelievably rude of them.
  9. Yeah, likely default position. Guessing writing was on the wall for the 3 that announced but interesting that the two (excluding GB since he never played) did so before the bowl game. Would think you’d wait until after
  10. Yeah might depend on how the “break up” went. If it’s mutual/on good terms, perhaps they can. Thx, just curious.
  11. Do these portal players still suit up/play in the bowl game? Guessing so since you can rescind the portal request?
  12. It was sarcasm but not everyone is as sharp as you.
  13. You are welcome to keep scrolling, I don’t recall asking you to respond.
  14. May be we should move down to D2 football then if winning, regardless of against who, is all that matters. Saves $300M.
  15. For the most part yes…majority of non P4 schools would fall under my definition of no names.
  16. Yeah, that’s where we differ. I am not interested in padding stats with a win over a no name team. Feels too participation trophy-ish for me. Put these extra practices to use and play a legitimate game that people (at large - not just die hards) will want to tune into. USF needs to make a name for itself again. No risk, no reward.
  17. That’s where I’ll flip my POV and say it is a meaningless game if held in a location only a couple of hundred fans will travel to. That’s essentially a scrimmage and doesn’t move the dial for USFs brand (especially if paired against some of these no name teams I’m seeing floated).
  18. Good with that…just can’t be Hawaii…somewhere folks can reasonably travel to.
  19. Perhaps, but I’d venture to say that outside of the playoffs games, USF v UCF would have one of, if not the, largest crowd/tv audience of the bowl games.
  20. The school to the East made theirs count and are still profiting off of it. USF doesn’t have the luxury of playing games for fun. A strong showing, or dare I even say a win, by USF in a USF/UCF matchup does far more for the program (fan base and recruiting) than playing in a game across the country in an irrelevant matchup that no more than a couple of hundred USF fans will actually be there in-person to see. 6-6 isn’t Hawaii celebration time, back to work…”coffee is for closers”
  21. Perhaps but iron sharpens iron. It was a 1 score game last year and all I’ve heard about is how much improved we are this year vs last. Let’s put that to the test.
  22. I’d envision an Alabama type of crowd if a USF/UCF matchup were to happen and such a raucous environment that you wouldn’t know it was a semi-meaningless bowl game. If the players prefer traveling out-of-state then cool, go for it. The above is my ideal scenario as a fan (which I also think is good for increasing interest in the program as well).
  23. Possibly…108? Announced 32k which actually sounds close to actual based on my recollection… Pic from the sites archive (visiting side)
  24. If we are using USFs announced crowds then sure. After all, Temple was 30k, right?
