Did we even bring that many for FSU in 2009?

UF let us bring a ton in 2022 and the turnout was quite solid.

If we manage to generate 20k even with secondary market for Bama we might get invited into the SEC lol. It would also be insanely loud.

We barely draw 20k to games on Dale Mabry ... let alone 9+ hours away.  LOL.

So they put out the 6-6 model (yay G5s have a chance!), then pretended they were killing the Pac (so they could cut to 5+7 with this idea that it's now P4) while also giving them a chance to maintain their status. Pac will take on the MW all under the P12 moniker, then we still have a P5 and now the G_ don't get a guaranteed seat and will inevitably still be left out of the dance.

If you think this is a wild conspiracy theory that used the "death" of the Pac to reduce the number of guaranteed conference winners while simultaneously gonna let the Pac keep their autonomy status, then you haven't been paying attention the last 15-20 years. They'll continue to shut out the current have nots, because they don't want them getting any of that sweet sweet CFP pie.

The 5-7 is only for 2024 and 2025... so the PAC will not be more than two teams, and will not get an AQ.

By the time the MWC and PAC2 do something, the new CFP contract ... which may or may not have any AQ teams... will apply.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner Johnnny.  Last year it was Feb 21st.

It was the latest the schedule was released since the American first started as a conference in 2014.

    • 2022 - Feb 17th
    • 2021 - Feb 18th
    • 2020 - Feb 18th
    • 2019 - Feb 7th
    • 2018 - Feb 13th

    • 2016 - Feb 9th
    • 2015 - Feb 19th
    • 2014 - MARCH 11th

Based on the last four years... I am expecting the schedule tomorrow.

The only way it would make sense to me today would be if you have to buy season tickets for next year in order to get your tickets today. 2007 football we were a startup company with crazy great trajectory trying to grab market share as we were challenging the biggest brands in the area (and could expand to 7x the capacity of the Yuengling center, which is a lot of butts in seats). USF basketball is countless decades into our business, we are who we are and you shouldn’t squander your once a score opportunity to establish that scarcity is actually possible and your tickets can occasionally have value.

Football and basketball are 2 different animals at USF, and both are at 2 completely points in development. You want to expose as many potential future ticket buyers to the atmosphere that will hopefully be there today and SRO tix would be the smart play. You worry about supply and demand gimmicks later, when there is an ongoing demand.

    Two different philosophies pictured above:

    1. By creating scarcity, you have the potential of increasing future demand because people will have FOMO.

    2. By creating exposure, you have the potential of increasing future demand because people will become FANS.

    Both sides have their merit.

If it’s students i agree if it’s people like me and @T-Man we have gone out of our way to show that we take for granted that you can just get tickets anytime you want. They opened up every zone, they had tickets available within the week, people were posting about selling out, warnings were everywhere and yet we said so what who cares usf basketball tickets will always be available. There is absolutely no smart financial and marketing reason to reward negative behavior and prove once and for all that everyone is actually right and there is no time ever where one would have to worry about not being able to walk up and get tickets. Making more seats available today would be brand value destroying and if I were in ticket sales i would actually walk out over it, glad we are actually doing the smart thing today and I’m actually getting to defend athletics.

In principle, I agree with you... but the 2007 WVU game was "sold out" but sold 2,000+ SRO tickets and people could walk up and buy tickets.  So there is precedent.

Not sure what the plan is, but if they were smart, they'd make up an extra SRO ticket and sell it to make this a record attendance and not just a tie of a previous sold out record.

The record attendance is 10,444 back in 1991 when USF hosted the Florida Gators (I was there as a sophomore).

The current capacity is officially 10,411.

Here is where it gets scary. ACC just added 3 teams. If they lose 4 teams, what if they decide to just add 1.

If they add 1, who are the contenders: USF, UConn, Tulane, West Coast team.

UConn offers big time basketball and fits into their traditional footprint.

USF offers football potential and fits into their traditional footprint.

Tulane give SMU some company and bridges that geographic divide.

West Coast bolsters their presense as a nationwide conference. (I didn't break down the options, but the PAC 2 schools or San Diego State are most likely)

I don't think they add 1... I think they add 4 or more ... any media partner post 2027 will need as much inventory as possible... they may need to add 6 or 8 even.

First, the team earned those votes.

I didn't reach out to any of the AP voters who voted for us, so no credit to me.

I think I might have helped with the coaches poll, as one of the voting coaches liked my tweet to him, but we don't know if was one/some of our votes or not, and even if he was, he might have done it without my tweet.

I did.  Once... and Mia O'Brien liked the post. HA!

    Jim,

What was the latest weekend morning start (local time) for a USF basketball or football game with the local temperature under 70 degrees?

    Thanks,

You know... Google has a lot of information.  It doesn't have THAT... but it has a LOT of information.   Like this for example:

Did not look it up but assume its our first winning conference record since 2012. We also have already secured a winning season. We can't finish worse than 16-15 (even if we lose out and get bounced in our first tourney game)

    You are correct.

This could also have the most wins ever in conference play and have the best overall record... and the chance to finish as regular season champions for the first time ever. (Best conference finish ever was 2nd, which happened a few times.)  USF is in the 48th season playing basketball in a conference... there have been just 8 winning seasons.

Complete list of USF basketball seasons with conference records above .500 (there have been 3 seasons at .500 in conference play)... in all but one season, the Bulls went to the NCAA or NIT.

    1. 2011-12 - 12-6 in Big East [Stan Heath]  (this is also the most wins and best overall record .667)  -- NCAAT
    2. 2000-01 - 9-7 in C-USA [Seth Greenberg] -- NIT
    3. 1991-92 - 7-5 in Metro [Bobby Paschal] -- NCAAT
    4. 1990-91 - 8-6 in Sun Belt [Bobby Paschal] -- NIT
    5. 1989-90 - 9-5 in Sun Belt [Bobby Paschal] -- NCAAT
    6. 1983-84 - 9-5 in Sun Belt [Lee Rose]
    7. 1982-83 - 8-6 in Sun Belt [Lee Rose] -- NIT
    8. 1980-81 - 8-5 in Sun Belt [Lee Rose] -- NIT

Hypothetically, if USF wins out that would be 24 wins, which will match the most ever (2018-19 - 24-14 [Brian Gregory]).  One more win in the conference tournament and/or post-season would eclipse that mark.

The best ever overall winning percentage was 1975-76 when USF was an independent and finished 19-8 (.704) [Chip Conner].  The 1982-1983 Lee Rose coached team finished 22-10 (.688) overall.

The 1983-1984 team missed out on the NIT because they lost in the first round of the conference tournament, and the 5th place UAB ended up winning it.  So the Sun Belt sent two teams (reg season champ VCU and tourney champ UAB) to the NCCAT and two more teams to the NIT (2nd place and tourney runner up Old Sominion and 3rd place South Alabama)... all four had better overall records than USF ... leaving USF on the outside.

Iam rooting for Prime to keep adding more sports over Disney. Prime  doesn't create panderverses. They make good content and leave it at that.

I am sure they will lobby congress to make  streamer subscriptions pay broadcast views and congress will vote yes so they get kick backs and campaign donations they can use to buy anything .

Well, "streaming" services like Sling, Hulu Live, YouTubeTV already pay "carriage fees".  In this way, are cable companies.

The other services are "a la carte" ... not sure what Congress could do to make Netflix pay ESPN if there is no ESPN content (live or otherwise) on Netflix.

all the networks move to streaming is going to hurt every conference's payouts (heck even major league sports) in regards to carriage fees. that includes the big 12 , sec, and big 10.

80% of espn's revenues are carriage fees.

There are estimates that subscriber base for cable will be less than 50 million households by the end of the decade... at some point A LOT of cable networks are going to fold into their parent corporations' streaming services and the volume of programming will decrease.
