  1. Memphis' 1-1 record against FAU gives them the tie breaker over SMU.  UAB's victory over USF, gives them the tie breaker over Memphis.

    Therefore . . .

    If SMU wins
    #4 SMU
    #5 UAB
    #6 Memphis

    If UAB Wins
    #4 UAB
    #5 Memphis
    #6 SMU

I wouldn’t call it blocking. It’s re routing for the Lot 6 parking pass members and it does help ease traffic flow for them.

The one issue with the re routing that @Ricky the Bull brought up was to have better signage coming off of 50rh Street and I would agree that it is needed, especially if there are weeknight sellouts.

I hope USF works with the City of Tampa to get 50th street widened to two lanes with a center turn lane before the OCS is built.  Given the donor lots that will be close to the stadium will be most easily accessed from 50th and Holly (rather than 50th and Elm) it could be a bit of a bottleneck mixing donors with the general public who may not know where to turn.

We’re all entitled to our own opinion. That’s what this board is all about.  However, let me point out some factors for consideration.

if non-donors assume that they can park in Lot 6, but then find out they can’t, then that’s on them. The Internet is a great tool for doing research before arriving on campus.  A better solution for them would be to become STH’s, so then they can park in Lot 6 if they really want to park there. They better hurry up, though, as I suspect that season ticket sales will increase, and it may get harder to park there.

You’re also assuming that everyone that parks in Lot 6 is coming to USF from the west or south and would therefore use Bull Run. That assumption is not valid, as some coming to USF from the north would presumably use I-75, then take Fletcher or Fowler to 50th. I’ve used Elm to get to Lot 6 by way of 50th and Fowler for years. That’s because I live east of USF, and I know I’m not the only one that lives east of USF that parks in Lot 6.

Another factor to consider is vehicle flow and pedestrian traffic. Allowing a left turn movement from Bull Run onto Elm increases the potential for an accident in the intersection due to vehicles pulling out in front of others. Cars waiting for their tickets to be scanned to get into Lot 6  sometimes back up into the intersection even at games with the usual attendance (3-4k). Add in the pedestrian traffic crossing Bull Run and then the crosswalk over Elm at the intersection, and the potential for accidents increases further.  These observations are based on my years of experience accessing Lot 6. But hey, what do I know?

I haven’t heard any complaints from any of the “Lot 6ers” about the closed intersection while standing in line waiting to get into Gate C. Given that many complain about darn near everything (myself included at times),  the fact that I haven’t any complaints after 3 sold-out games tells me that it’s not an issue with those that use Lot 6.

BTW - Do you use Lot 6? Asking because I don’t recall seeing “Jim Johnson”  on any Iron Bulls signs that are posted in front of the parking spaces in Lot 6 on gameday. I will admit that I only see the signs on the first drive aisle, across from the handicapped parking.

I’ve made my points. If you want to continue the discussion, go for it…

    Go Bulls

Dude... I never said anything about ONLY using Bull Run. Why not use BOTH roads and two options for donors?  And if the choke point is the ticket scanning, add a second location:  One on Elm Street and one on Bull Run.

This kind of inefficiency will be more problematic when the football stadium opens, so ... as I said ... I hope USF learns some lessons from the traffic flow.

    Not necessarily true.

"Some teams take part in non-conference multi-team events, or MTEs, that are held in November and December. In April 2020, the Division I Council passed legislation that allows men's basketball programs to schedule up to 28 regular-season games and participate in an MTE that has up to three games, or 29 regular-season games while participating in an MTE that has up to two games, for a total of 31 games in either scheduling optionTeams that don't participate in an MTE can play up to 29 regular-season games."

    https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2020-10-27/how-many-games-are-college-basketball-season

This season we'll finish having played 29 regular season games, but if you have a look at the standings across men's basketball, there are teams that have played 31 (i.e. Vermont). It seems as though we are able to schedule a couple more games if we played in a tournament early on. We could utilize those games, on a neutral court, to increase our neutral court wins to assist with NET, without sacrificing a game-for-a-game by scheduling the OOC games on the road. Makes up for a couple of them at least. Maybe make 1 or 2 of the OOC games on the road instead of home and just like that we pick up 3-4 non-home games (only 1 or 2 from our usual schedule).

Don't forget that USF played in an MTE with one game: the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic in Sunrise, Florida.  So USF could have scheduled one more OOC game.

    #17 Gonzaga - 14 home games, 5 neutral site

    #18 St. Mary's - 17 home, 4 neutral

    #19 SDSU - 12 home, 3 neutral

    #20 Dayton - 14 home, 4 neutral

    #33 FAU - 13 home, 7 neutral

    #73 USF - 17 home, 1 neutral

Basketball scheduling is basically done in the spring/summer before a season starts.

USF had a new coach coming in with a lot of new players, so there was clearly an effort made to ensure our OOC was not as strong as these others.  Scheduling USF to face a top 50 program outside of the AAC would have been suicidal.  The 2024 schedule will be a lot better.

I think it's cute that anyone thinks that any of these schools will still exist in 99 years.

The schools will clearly exist... there will always be a need for post-secondary education and research.

Those schools may no longer offer intercollegiate athletics... but the universities themselves, especially the public ones, will be around.

How is that silly? Arena Club/floor seat holders/Iron Bulls (and Hardwood Club members) pay thousands of dollars to be in those areas at the YC and for the ability to have reserved parking. Given that my spouse has limited mobility, and I’m a disabled veteran, we utilize the handicapped parking spots in Lot 6 for closer access to the gates.  We’ve been MBB STHs for 11 years (10 for WBB), and have also paid thousands of dollars to support the Bulls thru thick and thin (and there has been some bad basketball at times). So no, I don’t think it is “silly” to allow for some form of controlled access to and from Lot 6 for some of the strongest supporters of USF Athletics, especially for certain boosters named Muma, Nelson, Fishman, etc who also park there.

    Go Bulls

Blocking access from Fowler -> Lot 6 is silly.  Bull Run is two lines wide in each direction... those donors should be able to use Fowler, enter on Bull Run, and go to their spots.

They should not be forced to use 50th street to Elm Street, where they have single lanes... especially if non donors think they can park on Sycamore from the same entrance.

  8. 18 hours ago, John Lewis said:

The way the direction flow has been utilized for the last 3 games did not provide access to Lot 6 (North lot) from this direction.

No, but the main Sun Dome ... er Y.C.  ... lots are far easier to access than Lot 6 ... but did they incoming divert traffic on Bull Run to prevent Lot 6 access?

  9. 3 hours ago, monktified said:

My comment was more dealing with the traffic prior to tip-off.  Could care less about waiting to leave, the FAU game seemed like I spent 15-20 minutes on ELM trying to even get to any parking lot.

Elm Street is not the way to come in.

Enter from Fowler as Alumni has two lanes in each direction.

Hard to see a future where UNC and Duke are in different conferences; that said they are like the USC/UCLA combo in stature, albeit a basketball tilt rather than football.

Football is in the driver seat... and they are not really rivals in football.

UNC and Duke would be happy to schedule their basketball matchup as needed... possibly even twice OOC if need be.

I think it's 2 more wins or 1 more Blazers loss. I assume they hold tiebreaker over us ...

Actually, 2 more Blazers losses... if UAB and USF finished tied for 4th, they get the bye.

USF's worth mathematical finish would be 13-5. UAB's mathematical best finish is 14-4... at 13-5, they still get in ahead of USF.

So a 13-5 USF needs there to be a 12-6 UAB.

Think this years team will be the most wins and least losses in program history

20 wins in the regular season is the most regular season wins for USF already.

Total wins is within reach for sure.

This was my error... for some reason I wrote 20 above, but then switched to 13 for this silly mistake:
Total wins, however ... Gonna be hard to get 11 more wins.

There are 4 more regular season games... only3 in AAC tourney because of byes.

USF would have to get 4 more wins in the NCAAT just to tie... that's reaching the Final Four

Yes, it depends on what you mean by "best record."

In 1976 we hade the highest winning percentage at 19-8 (.704).

In 1990 we went 20-11, won the conference tourney and went to the NCAA tourney, losing in the first round.

In 2012 we went 22-14 and went to the second round of the NCAA tourney.

In 2019 we went 24-14 and won the CBI.

2019: 24 wins = most total wins in program history
2024: 13 wins = most conference wins in program history

    American Athletic Conference

2024 Schools: Army, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, USF, UTSA

What’s New in 2024: SMU is gone to the ACC, and Army signed on to be a part of the American Athletic Conference fun.

What’s Next for 2025: HOLD THE LINE. There aren’t a whole lot of options out there for the Power Four conferences to grab. The Big Ten and SEC won’t poach any AAC schools, but the Big 12 could be lurking around Memphis and Tulane, and it’s absolute realignment malpractice that USF isn’t already in a Power Four conference …

AAC Expansion Prediction: The AAC loses USF to the Big 12, or possibly the ACC, and Memphis and Tulane are in a few discussions.

Also get ready for a few days of social media clickbait banter about trying to add Oregon State and Washington State, but that won’t go anywhere.

The author - Pete Fiutak - has been a USF champion for years.  He thought the Big 12 was foolish to not add USF along with UCF...
