Our 3B Coach cost us a run in the 4th or 5th by not sending Coco with 2 outs.  It brought up Chatfield with the bases loaded and he struck out in that at bat and 4 times during the game and has been in a funk for a while.  He struggles big time vs lefties.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Kyle Phillips jump up in the lineup as he always seems to have good at bats, and he had a 4 hit day yesterday.

That's a tough call for the coach. Conventional wisdom says don't make the last out at the plate. Especially if one of your middle hitter is coming up. But sometimes the situation can dictate a deviation from that wisdom. Its a decision that gets made quick and cant be recanted. I agree about Phillips though, hes been real hot lately.

So I guess as long as we can maintain second it is good for our tournament chances.  I admit, I have not paid a lot of attention to USF baseball (I blame Robin, Eddie and Lelo, plus the fact I coach basketball :) ).   We have a lot of work to do.

Coaching Baseball doesn't the situation so I feel you on that. I think the reg title is Houston's to lose. A two seed would be good for us. One team I would like to avoid early in that tourny is Uconn. They are better now than when we got them.

Q is way better than Driskell. He might be the first to lose his spot on Q’s raise

I'll be surprised if he gets put on the roster as a QB. I think Driskel is probably a better NFL QB than Flowers. But again, I doubt they ever find themselves competing for a the same spot on the depth chart.

I'll be happy with him doing whatever it takes. He can make some big plays if the Bengals get him in some space.

  4. "His inconsistent play at quarterback but incredible playmaking ability is why some think he could be changing positions at the NFL level. The Bengals sent wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell and running backs coach Kyle Caskey to his pro day, which shows how they likely view him. The Bengals also added quarterback Logan Woodside in Round 7 of the draft, so the quarterback room is a bit crowded."

Jeff Driskel is also on their practice squad.

Bengals’ Quinton Flowers is one of the most exciting undrafted players- The former USF quarterback may be making a position change at the NFL level, but it doesn’t make him any less interesting.

He was sort of all over the place from what I read. Some people loved him and some don't think he can even be a backup. Who knows...

Yeah, I thought he was worth a second or third round selection. I just think in the first round, unless you are absolutely devoid of a QB, you have to pick the player that makes the biggest difference on day one.  But maybe I'm wrong and this bad boy beats out Flacco, its not to hard to imagine.

    Not him,

I think it was him (at least the person I am thinking of), he just didn't last a half. They started off with three punts with him under center, then they went to Hurts and Barnett threw his TD is garbage time.

"We got off to a little bit of a shaky start in the first quarter, especially on offense," Saban said. "We scored a lot of points, made a lot of big plays, but still our consistency in execution needs to be much improved. ... My focus with our team right now is what can we do better."

But this guy hasn’t “cut it” anywhere has he?  Maybe being a former “5 star”, I say that mockingly is supposed to motivate Kean and Oladokun. He couldn’t get the QB job at ASU?   That’s a story of its own.

Three questions, not necessarily for Brad

Is this the guy who started for a half at Bama and then was pulled for Hurts?

Is the only reason we think he is talented because of his high school scouting report and the fact that he went to Bama?

Is it possible that he peaked at 18.

Caught that last night. UGA has two good series wins this year but they are not on the same level as UF and FSU. This would give us a chance. The part I really hate about the NCAA baseball tournament is that they keep it too regionalized. I don’t recall USF ever playing the first round anywhere but in FL. Really is unfortunate relative to the talent in the state.

Defiantly not the same level as UF. These will obviously fluctuate every weekend but I thought it was surprising to see JU and FAU as two seeds. I think that is what has us going to Ga. Not sure if that will hold but both are currently top 20 in RPI.

  10. UF dropped another mid-week to Mercer.

    1. Upset of the Day: Mercer Topples Florida

A week after getting knocked off by Jacksonville in midweek action, top-ranked Florida was upset at home in another Tuesday game, this time by Mercer, 6-4. The Gators built a 4-1 lead after one inning, but Mercer tied it up with a pair of homers in the third by RJ Yeager and Le Bassett, then took the lead for good on Yeager’s squeeze an inning later. Bullpen wizard Robert Broom improved to 8-1 with six sterling innings of relief for Mercer, allowing no runs on four hits and a walk while racking up 12 strikeouts. Broom now owns a 1.33 ERA and has 84 strikeouts in 54.1 innings over 22 relief appearances this year. After enduring a six-game losing skid, Mercer has now rebounded with three straight victories to improve to 29-14 overall.
