AJ Puk didn't play second fiddle. He was below .500 for the year, ERA over 3 and a ton of walks. He had much more quality depth behind him, but he was supposed to be the man.
If AJ Puk was supposed to be the "man", then why did Logan Shore start every Friday? When the season got tight, Puk was a bullpen arm.

Because only four of his quality starts have come against teams ranked in the top 100 in RPI and two of those are ranked 90 and 97. Against the top 100, he's 2-4. When add in the fact he has only surpassed the 7 inning mark once, and I don't know how you interpret his performance as anything other than average to above average for an ace.
I don't "hate" SM, I just expect more out an ace.

I don't think it's hate. I think it is a response to high expectations about our ace and his potential to be a Top 5 MLB draft pick. Like the ace of any staff, you look for him to be efficient and effective and deliver in the W-L ledger.
Yeah, i don't even think its expectations of a top 5 pick, just the typical expectations of an ace.
I liked the AJ Puk comparison that was made earlier, we just don't get to use him like UF used Puk ( who also had a stellar Dane Dunning to support his breakdowns). Puk got to play third fiddle to Shore and Faedo

Done, shes up to 433, second place has 307 but that lead wont hold. We need to give her more votes.

He's been outstanding in 9 of 12 starts.
I wouldn't call any start under 7 innings outstanding, quality but not outstanding. To me he has had 1 outstanding start, 7 good starts, and 4 awful starts (because we differ on the Houston start). We need more out of an ace. That kind of inconstancy from the ace spot isn't going to take us very far.

Actually it wouldn't have helped enough to bother making the trip. And if we had lost, aye, yai, yai, the sky would fall and the world would end.
Gotta SWEEP 'dos Bearpu**ies now.
Go BULLS!!!!!!!!!!!
The voters are gonna be splitting hairs when it comes to deciding who goes to Gainesville. This game wouldn't have done much but it certainly could have helped our resume. Especially after we tied this weekend.
Cincinnati's RPI is 94 so they aren't helping much either. Needed all four games. Three out of four would have been great, but now only getting three games means we probably need to take them all.

If this happens, blame the tie

Bummer. They had an RPI of 74 so its not like we are losing huge game, but every little bit counts at this point.

well that and hold us to 0, 2, and 0 . That looks like the winning formula the same amount of times as hitting our friday night starter .....
Fair point, But I think you can expect another teams ace to come out and get you sometimes. Its hard to accept 5.3 BB/9 out of your ace.

Not everyone is having trouble hitting Friday night starters...
Hits and walks.
Sit dead red and take your walks seems like a winning formula against us on Friday.

Are those guys together in the line up? If not you could a 2 or 3 hitting .500 and not score.
I think he is referencing how other teams have hit us on friday night.

It's really going to be interesting to see what happens with all the juniors in this year's class and how many of them return for their senior year. McClanahan, Perez, Genord, Villar are all likely to go, right? But how about Zech, Dietrich, Montes, Chatfield, Dutka, Phillips, Wisely, Cruz? I could see them returning.
Montes I could see being drafted. The pros will see him as a 2b that can hit. He's got some value there. Outside of that I think Zech could make a case with his speed/power combination but the rest "should" all stay. Chatfield will need another year after his regression down the stretch. I think hes better when he is in the OF, some People can't handle the free half inning.

Thought this might happen when they called the game for time.
With FGCU at 74 and UC at 93, even if we win out, we probably won't see the polls again.
Where would we be ranked if we simply won half the Friday games we've lost, I wonder?
we've lost 6 Fridays, 4 Saturdays, and 2 Sundays. 5 mid weeks. I agree that Fridays have shown the most room for improvement. Its supposed to be your best vs their best and we haven't looked very good in those games. In the eyes of the voters, I have to think that matters.

A new stadium not helping with attendance? I swear I've read on this very site an assertion that the exact opposite is true.
Then what explains Min and Mia, attendance numbers. Two of the newest stadiums in the league bottom ten in Attendance. Atlanta has brand new stadium and a tradition that comes with the team and yet they sit middle of the pack in attendance and their "new" hasn't worn off yet.
In the end a stadium is nice but if they don' change their spending philosophy, attendance will always struggle. Consistent baseball fans will always comes to watch stars play. People who get a kick out of the stadium will show up for one or two games and call it a season.

Bears sign USF guard Jeremi Hall after rookie minicamp tryout
"Rookie minicamp was the last chance for many of the unsigned, undrafted rookies to show the Chicago Bears that they deserve a shot.
Jeremi Hall from South Florida took full advantage, and the Bears are expected to sign him to a contract after he impressed the team at his tryout this weekend."
"He joins a crowded Bears depth chart in the interior, joining fellow undrafted rookie free agent Dejon Allen from Hawaii."

Yeah, its one of those things. Fortunately, we can still win the tourney and take the conference. Unfortunately, we aren’t really built for a deep tourney run. I like our chances to win a regional more than the AAC conference tourney.
-
we are battling for second place now. The tie could cost us that in the end.
-
It can stride off the rubber, just has to start there. Carter Capps used to hop off the ground, but they quickly changed the rule, because it was so ambiguous, to basically stipulate that you must at least dragged your foot. Much like softball.

Managed to catch the last 4-5 innings on the radio.
Still and all, a tie is better than a loss.
Do we drop out of the top 25 for this though?
We need to find a way to somehow beat FGCU, then sweep Cincy, all on the road. Tough task.
The voters like WSU so off we do, it will be minimal

Shore started every Friday until tourney play when the rotation became obsolete. He also started their first super regional game and the Coastal Carolina game. Puk was the highest draft pick, Shore was the man of the staff. We don't have the depth they had, which is why we can't afford the breakdowns.
Our ace struggles with the basic job of a pitcher, which is to throw a strike. That doesn't make me very confident. It makes me feel like the foundation will crumble when the post season begins.
