  1. I still think we will be. Maryland is a pretty solid squad and we are hanging tough. We still play NC State, SMU, UConn, and Tulsa who are all absolutely terrible.
  2. That was freaking nice. Could have been another turnover.
  3. Safe Play Calling there. Not sure I like it with us having momentum.
  4. This defense is showing massive improvement over last week. Bresnahan gave up a ton of yards and points last week but the advantage is that Maryland didn't get to study our blitz packages and different coverages.
  5. This is what alot of us were saying last week. If our passing game sucks then we need the QB that can run the football.
  6. If we could throw or catch, that might surprise them. It probably won't work but running up the middle every 1st down is just going to go for 0 or 1 yards. Might as well keep trying the pass until it works, and if it doesn't we lose anyways.
  7. We need to throw on 1st down. Maryland is just stacking the box on 1st down and we are just running right into it.
  8. Our secondary is terrible. Our front 7 is doing a great job though so that's improvement.
  9. I was delivering pizza's all night so I didn't have a chance to go but I heard most of it on the radio. Alot of things are going to have to fall into place at the right time this weekend for us to get the win. White needs to improve that completion percentage from 38 to no less then 58. Mack is going to need to get us 115 -120 yards. The team NEEDS to win the turnover battle and create an easy score or two. My gut feeling says we lose about 40 - 21, and strangely the Bulls fanbase feels better about the team after a 14 - 21 point loss to a Big 10 team then they did about winning against an FCS team.
  10. I didn't see another thread on this but I caught most of it while doing deliveries so I figured I would post what I thought was notable. - When asked if there were any parts of the team that after watching the tape he thought performed better than he thought they did during the game, his immediate response was pass protection from the offensive line. He acknowledged that it was tough at 1st with a few starters going injured but by the 2nd quarter he felt that they were giving the QB plenty of time in the pocket to make a good throw. What was interesting to me is he didn't have to think for a moment about the answer. I got the feeling that during the game he was blaming White's struggles on the O-Line but afterwards realized that really wasn't the case. It explains to me why White didn't get benched. - He said that everyone is rooting for White to do well, but he needs to do better on game day. He didn't exactly say that White will be on a short leash this weekend but you could read between the lines just by hearing it in his voice. He obviously doesn't want to kill the kid's confidence by benching him so early in the year, but I could tell that Taggart's patience with him is going to run really thin, really quickly. - When asked if he felt Maryland would adjust their game plan now for Mack or just do what they normally do, he said he felt that Maryland would just do what they do. I hope he's full of ****. I'm afraid he isn't though. Maryland is going to make adjustments to stop the one great thing we have shown on offense in a long time. The Bulls need to game plan accordingly. - He said that he was actually glad the team had to face a lot of adversity on Saturday between the weather delay and losing early in the game, and he sounded sincere. He said when the team got down early the freshman were all going around telling everyone it's going to be alright and that they just need to keep fighting. He started to refer to how the team was last year, (essentially the "here we go again") attitude, but stopped and said he doesn't talk about last years team anymore. I liked that. He is preaching that last season is in the past and has nothing to do with what happens this season, and he is holding himself to that standard too. - He said that allowing 30+ completions on hitch and basic out routes is unacceptable and will be fixed this week. I could tell that pissed him off and I am sure he chewed out Bresnahan and his defense this week. He holds the defense right now to a higher standard. Overall I liked what I heard this week for one reason. Last year on these shows when he talked about the Bulls winning football games, it was always in the future tense. Essentially he was acknowledging in the best way possible that they sucked but needed to take their licks and improve from them. On this show he talked about the team winning right now, and the things that they are doing that will lead to wins right now.
  11. That photo is no doubt a classic. That's the face of a man who just stared at his job and livelihood being at risk for 60 minutes and barely came out on top.
  12. I am usually against true freshman QB's but if some of the success of Taggarts other guys that he recruited is any indication of Flower's talent then get him on the field ASAP. And yes I know White is technically a Taggart recruit but Holtz recruited him and Taggart just let him stay on.
  13. That's all Dr Holtz was saying, and he was a lot more right than May, which was just useless ESPN fill-in babble. Auburn started out last year having a lot more trouble with Wazzu that Bama had with WVU. I agree. I don't think either were really wrong. If you told me even after week 10 that Auburn would have made the title game still having to play Georgia, Bama, and Mizzou I would have thought you were crazy, but they pulled it off. The only team that I have penciled into the title game is Florida State and I'm not even sure about them. If I was betting on it, I would say they lose to either Notre Dame or Louisville, and if they lose to Louisville it will keep them out of the ACC title game, which would be a killer.
  14. I love how Taggart apparently sat around and did nothing in the offseason, yet the guy who just scored 4 TD's and essentially won the game for us was a true freshman he recruiting and our leading receiver was a transfer he convinced to come here. I still don't think a good chunk of the Bulls fanbase truly grasps just how bad of shape this program was in when Holtz left. In 2012 he had a senior QB in BJ Daniels who was good enough to make an NFL roster for the Super Bowl Champions, and they STILL went 3-9. And during that 3-9 they struggled to beat Chattanooga, they needed a last minute miracle drive vs. Nevada, and beat Uconn by a touchdown. AND THAT WAS WITH AN NFL CALIBER QB. And the second that QB went down the team started getting destroyed by 5 - 7 win teams like Miami, Pitt, and Cincy. DESTROYED. If you gave Willie Taggart a QB that averaged a 126 QB ratiing and ran for 400 yards per season, this football team would win 8 games minimum right now with the talent he has added already. Holtz left this program in worse shape then nearly 20 FCS teams. Worse bottom feeders like FAU and Temple. An F5 tornado essentially just came through and leveled an entire city. If you really expect that magically in 1 season Taggart will have had every problem resolved and filled every position on the team with a new much better player, then you should just stop watching.
  15. I've been saying this when his name came up in the search. But what can we expect, after all this is what happens when you hire a search firm that only interviews one candidate. Nothing against Taggart, at the time he was a top candidate, but there were better candidates that had proven success in the SEC out there that the search firm ignored entirely. Those other candidates right now have shown great success with their new teams, while we have really not improved. Regardless of how bad Taggart may or may not be... he could still come out and surprise us you know... crazier things have happened. We are stuck with him for a solid 3-4 years max. We are not Florida or Texas, we can't spit a HC out after 2 seasons and hire another good one. So good or bad we are stuck with Taggart on this bus until 2016 or 2017. The one shining light is that the new AD from UCLA won't tolerate failure. What "coaches" are you talking about. 30 new coaches were hired last year when we were looking for a new coach. There are only a few that have found success, and by success I mean do better in their 1st 13 games then the previous coach. Auburn - Malzahn Boston College - Adazio That's pretty much the entire list. Every other new coach led their teams to a worse record in 2013 or things pretty much stayed status quo. Cincy got Tuberville and they look about the same as they have been for the past 4 seasons. Tennessee got Butch Jones and may be better this year but time will tell. Helfrich became the Oregon coach and all of a sudden they are playing a whole lot of close football games now, unlike when Kelly was there. I have no problem with Bulls fans not being thrilled by what the Bulls have done on he field since Taggart got hired, but don't pretend there are all of these "mythical coaches" that we could have hired that are doing much better then him. Taggart pulled in the best Non-P5 recruiting class in the entire country, and is well on his way to doing it again. That's called winning where it really counts. If he didn't do that then his record as a Bulls coach would be 2-11 instead of 3-10, but since he recruited like a madman, some of the talent (Mack) already stood out and won us a football game. In 2 years when we have 2 more classes stacked with talent like Mack, and hopefully better QB play, this team will steamroll the majority of the conference. It's going to take time though.
  16. I actually agree with Mark May here more then Holtz. Bama played a West Virginia team that went 4-8 last year and only beat them by 10. On top of that Clint Trickett threw the ball all over them and racked up 365 yards. Stack that with the fact that they lost to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl last year, and I don't think it's a stretch by any means to say that Bama should not be penciled into the playoff by any means. Same deal with Ohio State. They played a Navy team that went 9-4 last season and nearly every single one of their wins were against teams that didn't make a bowl game. Ohio State was losing late in the 3rd quarter. I wouldn't call them a lock to get into the title game either. You can evaluate a team after one week. It doesn't mean you can project a teams entire season but you can no doubt see where teams weaknesses and strengths are.
  17. As others reminded me, forgot to mention: Rodney Adams B Ciabatti A+ Kloss A+ Rodney Adams :GoBulls: . Taggart convinces him to transfer to USF. Game 1 he rewards him by leading the team in receiving with 3 catches for 67 yards. We should probably fire Willie T though....guy doesn't know talent when he sees it.
  18. Because 40 of the completions were simple 6 yard passes to players on near sideline. When the defense played closer what a shock wcu stalled. Simple question....why can't we do that on offense ? Simple answer....we did....during the Holtz era. I guess the near-300 rushing yards and 180+ passing yards on our QB's worst night ever doesn't work for everyone. Man is it funny how fast people forget. That was Holtz's entire passing playbook was bubble screens and 5 - 7 yard passes. It ridiculously easy to beat and usually leads to interceptions because the defense closes down on you eventually.
  19. Yeah, something like that. A JL-coached team would have killed WC. CJL also had the extremely unique opportunity of molding an entire program from scratch the way he wanted. Taggart is in year 2 of molding what he wants after being handed absolutely nothing from Holtz. I still am having a hard time believing that people are actually upset with Taggart after this game when the 4-Star true freshman running back he convinced to come to USF instead of UCLA, Louisville, and a bunch of other P5 schools just showed that we will have a stud for years to come. Just let Taggart keep recruiting. He may not be the best coach, but you know who else isn't a very good coach....Nick Saban. The guy though is the greatest recruiter in the history of college football and that is why Bama is constantly winning no less then 10 games per season. On a side note I still can;'t believe he picked Lane Kiffin as his offensive coordinator.
  20. I said the other day that this game was one of the most important in USF's history and most of you guys thought I was nuts, and now that the game is over I feel like that's exactly what it was. The 1st true star of the Willie Taggart era emerged. Regardless of whether the rest of the team looked like garbage, and if our QB played the worst game in D-1 football, we can now officially say that we have a STUD Running Back. That's a good start. It's not nearly on the same level since Georgia played Clemson but look at what a true prime time running back can do for a team. It allows the QB to become a game manager and it completely wears down your opponents defense. That game was only 24-21 heading into the 4th quarter. Then in the 4th Gurley had 2 long TD runs and his backup Chubb also had a long one. This may sound corny but I hope some of the freshman and sophomores on this team get some inspiration from Mack's performance and realize that they can make a massive impact on the team immediately.
