There was only 1 year (2005) when we had both Miami and UCF on the schedule. When the UCF series of games ended in 2008 Miami came on in their place in 2009.

Bottom line, to me anyway, is that true rivals need to be playing for something; conf hierarchy, state bragging rights, national bragging rights or have long long history of playing each other. Hard pressed to find a true one that doesn't fit one of those criteria. Being in the same conference legitimized those begging for the UCF rivalry and was kind of hard to not acknowledge it then. Bragging rights for the supposed I4 corridor and the Internet will not a rivalry make, IMO. Cut all ties with those douchebags and focus on USF, and USF alone.

I don't know officially, but I always thought it "expired," and then Miami was not interested in renewing since we were being demoted to the minor leagues.  My guess is that they'd have nothing to gain by beating us, but everything to lose by losing to us.

IMO the ONLY reason for the “nothing to gain, everything to lose” mentality is FEAR.
