GAME DAY vs. The Citadel

USF will open its 24th season of football and see the debut of head coach Jeff Scott, the fifth man to lead the Bulls’ program. The 39-year-old Scott is the youngest coach in The American and the same age Jim Leavitt was when he debuted as the Bulls’ head coach in the first year the program competed in 1997. The Bulls and The Citadel also met that season with USF falling, 10-7, in Charleston in just the program’s second game after a resounding 80-3 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan in the opener. USF got revenge the next season, downing the Bulldogs, 45-6, in Tampa, the last time the programs met. USF was originally slated to open the 2020 season at Texas and play Bethune-Cookman on this date. USF added The Citadel and Notre Dame to its schedule in August.

SEASON OPENERS: USF had won five straight season openers before falling to No. 19 Wisconsin (49-0) in Tampa last year. The Bulls are 17-6 all-time in season openers and are 15-2 in season openers played at home.

CITADEL TIES: Jeff Scott’s father, Brad (now the Bulls’ Chief of Staff), was a graduate assistant at The Citadel in 1981 in his first collegiate coaching job. Jeff, born in December of 1980, attended his first football games as an infant watching The Citadel play. Brad went on to a standout career as offensive coordinator under Bobby Bowden at Florida State (winning the 1993 national title) and a five-year stint as head coach at South Carolina before serving on the Clemson football staff from 2001 to 2019 (12 of those seasons with Jeff). Brad is also a 1979 USF graduate.

TRANSFER TALENT: Jeff Scott welcomed numerous Division I transfers in his first year with the Bulls and as many as 16 transfers will play significant roles this season and are battling high on the depth chart, including at quarterback, running back, offensive line, wide receiver, defensive back, defensive line and kicker.

SERIES: Tied, 1-1

IN CHARLESTON: The Citadel leads, 1-0
LAST: USF won, 45-16, in Tampa in 1998

Whats the best way to be able to watch the game today

ESPNU will be broadcasting it. All things considered probably best to watch it at home. It will be an interesting game since its been raining all day in Tampa. According to the weather forecast it should clear up by game time but will be overcast and damp.

When the heck did we add Notre Dame to the schedule?

I am so lost--- literally no clue about this season. I might as well not call myself a fan these days.

Heads up the game before ours on ESPNU is not even at the half yet.  Keep an eye out to see if it starts on 3, + or News.

GO BULLS!
