Proper scheming and player motivation is half the job. You think the UCF game would have been down to the wire with that fantastic second half if Da Prato wasn’t giving every little bit of energy he had to the effort? Scott seldom if ever seemed personally engaged, and his schemes were blasé. We don’t need a rebuild of our culture, not roster.

Sounds like admin is still trying to finish Steve Masiello’s background check before announcing any hiring.

I would give Deion whatever level of control he wanted. If he flames out, do you really see USF getting the blame for giving Deion a shot? Is there any possible way he could leave our program in a worse state than it is presently?

If there ever were a good day for them to do so, the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend's not a bad choice.

I think it's obvious that at the minimum, Colorado is not Deion's top choice, even if he is their top choice.

I can't imagine USF Athletics would tweet that out if an announcement weren't imminent, which means we are on hardcore leak watch.

Well that’s two diametrically opposed responses right there, probably being typed up at the same time. Never figured (or intended) Mike White to be a rorschach test for the Taggart era, but it sure is funny now.

I also feel like we would have something substantive to go on by now if there have been plans for an announcement 12 hours from now scheduled for the past 24 hours.

Mike White committed to Willie Taggart on the day Taggart was formally introduced by USF, IIRC. Later that evening.

It’s not about retaining a coach, it’s about retaining a culture. But you have to build one first…

I like Da Prato’s energy, but he did not earn the full HC job.

Deion makes USF as much of an immediate and ongoing national storyline on his first day as we have been in a decade and a half. That alone is priceless.

Deion wants to make his case for an eventual FSU job. Well if he can’t make it at USF, then FSU is a pipe dream. And I think USF is much more within his wheelhouse than Colorado.

And I do think he would succeed here. Honestly, I think Deion Sanders falling into our laps would be stunningly, stupidly fortuitous.

I never want to hear a word about this not being a rivalry game, ever again.

The most immediate upgrade we need to see next year isn't in roster building, or schematics, or results on the field. It needs to be a culture reset first and foremost, because otherwise there's no foundation to build upon. Whatever "culture" we ever had has been erased from memory. Deion would immediately set a new tone for the program to turn into a culture that can last after Deion is hired elsewhere. If we are to be so lucky.
