This one is tough...I think we cover, but our run d still isn't there where they could end up running the score up...especially if we sputter a bit on offense
-
Hey, at least we can beat a FCS team...let's see if we can make the game interesting next week at BYU...
-
I want to see multiple explosive plays...our running game as a whole I want to see have a big game...I would like to see Timmy get the bulk of the snaps as well

He definitely says the words you expect a coach to say, hopefully it starts to translate to results sooner than later. There is a very important part of coaching like Dabo he has down to a science but Dabo gets to be Dabo because he hires the right people and they recruit the right athletes. When you don’t make good hires and your recruiting is average at best unfortunately you need more than just words otherwise you you like Dabo at the start of career when he was looking like he was closer to being fired than winning a National Championship.
The team is executing at a much higher level then last year.. it will begin to show on the field once we move into conference play

I don't know how many more times to tell people that he is the future, just not maybe the immediate future.
I respect this viewpoint...I am in the camp of getting him experience now...

What is maddening about this is that we can all see McClain should be the starter moving forward...and the staff hasn't publicly made this decision...could it be the commitment Scott made to Cade to get him to Tampa?

There’s not much good over at TDS, however I do like the film session they do with Seth Varnadore. I suggest you guys go watch this weeks session. He really breaks down Fortin and McClain, the good and the bad with both.
This ^ it is fantastic content...

I was pleased...McClain showed he should start moving forward...

Guys, ignore these folks.
It takes a real lack of a life to go to a "rival"'s board to beat your chest when they are down. "Enjoying our distress"? Dude, I really hope you find some joy in your family, your job, or a hobby today @SquareKnight. For real. Close the laptop and go outside.
USF bros - UCF is Oklahoma State's problem now. See what we are dealing with in this thread? Yeah. Take a second to reflect that Oklahoma State, with billions of T Boone pickens money, decades of tradition, actual national championships, a rivalry with Oklahoma to deal with, etc. now has these guys to deal with. I'm going to let OK State, Iowa State, etc deal with... whatever you call this behavior from UCF... and we can enjoy actual friendly rivalry with Memphis, SMU, etc going forward.
Exactly what I was thinking...they are someone else's problem now...let those lunatics bother someone else...

17 years in division 2? Who's fault is that? Anyways if it makes you feel better, I adjusted this data provided by @monktified

Took UCF
269 years to get to their first bowl game -
Took UCF
2811 years years to win their first conference title -
Took UCF
3114 years to win their first bowl game - In 42 years UCF has been to 12 bowl games...(that stat doesn't change )
I've decided to add to his list because I'm already sick and tired of my fellow Bulls fan whining and crying, but I'll be damned if I gotta deal with trolls- In our 24 years of Football we have accomplished:
- Took South Florida 6 years to get to our first bowl game.
- Took South Florida 7 years to get our first bow win.
- In 24 years South Florida has been to 10 bowl games.
- zero titles
- We were RANKED #2..your highest ranking ever was 10. I mean with all those victories it really sucks for you guys to have never been ranked higher.
- We have beaten EVERY Florida College football team. Including 2 of the big 3, (UM and FSU.) Once we beat UF next 1 to 3 games against them, we will have the trifecta. UCF haven't beaten ANY of the Big 3. In the end, you have NO claim to any State bragging rights until you beat EVERY team in this State!
Truth be told, I don't care about you guys going to the Big 12. I would like to even congratulate you guys. I will never hate on another man's success. That's "man law". We will have our moment no matter what conference you are in. They are expanding the CFB playoffs, so we still have the SAME path my friend. I wish your team success in the Big 12, but you will still see us.....unless you guys are to "poo-sea" to keep playing us.
"Man law" doesn't register for UCF fans...to quote the movie "As Good as It Gets." With regards to a UCF fan...I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability...

This unit overall just isn't talented...there is no further explanation...they will continue to kill this team...

Last night sucked, the brightest spot of that game was when McClain came in and scrambled for some first downs. The guy looks like a grown man, and his confidence shows. He is not in the mold of our QB's in the past 2-3 years. You can tell he is a gem that needs some polishing, but watching him this season- if the staff is smart enough to use him- will be the bright spot fans need to get us through the season.
If this athletics staff was smart, they would ease him into the UF game, then roll with him for the rest of the season. They also need to market the hell out of him. Having a young exciting QB with talent will put people in seats, and bring recruits in. The only thing that will save this team is a player with some swagger that other players can get behind and emulate. We had it for two years with Mack, Adams, MVS, Flowers, Mccants... Once you lose that confidence the whole thing falls apart.
Fortin is was bad last night. Maybe he can play better, but I like the idea of rolling with a guy who chose us from the start instead of a transfer. This will send a message to other players that if you come to USF, you will play if you have the talent.
Best name on this board...100%

This has been said before in prior post...Timmy is far ahead of Q at this point in his career...so there's that

I was feeling the same way yesterday...this looked a lot like the Wisconsin game...I expected to keep it within 10, hell keeping it to the spread of 18 would have been a heck of a lot better

I want to see the dline not look like they are ice skating...

Even a modest improvement should be enough if the offense is playing up to its capabilities. I think the improvement in the secondary will benefit the D-line as well. I don't have much concern over our first line guys, its a lack of depth that will be a problem for us. We have to avoid injuries and Covid outbreaks. Hopefully, CJS has gotten through to the players and we can get the vaccination percentage up over 90%. Would hate to see the season derailed because we lost an entire position group to Covid protocols.
I was concerned with the LB'er unit as well...we've built a bit of depth though...I think all other units have improved immensely...
-
We definitely have begun building talent back...the Dline group though could hold the team back though from getting to 5 or 6 wins...that group may be improved, but by how much?
-
They will win between 4-5 games...
-
I am actually excited...last year was the worst possibly scenario for Scott to walk into...we do have a decent amount of talent to build off of...we may get spanked the first couple of games, but I am actually looking forward to seeing how the team progressed...

The linebackers CARRIED the defense last year. I'm not sure what you are so worried about. Grier is a speed player. Those 9Ibs Grier lost don't mean **** and he can always eat a burger or something. Have you ever seen him w/o pads? Buddy is ripped. Trust me, he will be ok. Boyles is a possible future draft pick. Bellamy is almost 230 Ibs now and played well from day one. Half of our LBs weight 230 and the others are around 220. This is the new age. LBs are smaller and faster than back in the day. A name to look put for is Amer Amer. Buddy is a true freshman bench pressing 325Ibs and hits hard as hell from what I seen on his footage. Let's look at it this way.....310 Ib DT Kelvin Pickney's bench press max was 330Ibs as a sophomore. I'm good with our linebackers.
- Antonio Grier LB 6-1 213
- Davon Hicks LB 6-0 218
- Dwayne Boyles LB 6-3 228
- Demaurez Bellamy LB 5-10 228
- Mac Harris LB 6-0 230
- Keyon Helton LB 6-0 221
- Brian Norris LB 6-2 225
- CJ Ross LB 5-11 211
- Jamal Nash LB 6-0 226
- Randal Copeland LB 6-0 212
- Amer Amer LB 6-1 226
- Reggie Johnson II LB 6-0 212
- Andrew Mims LB 6-1 222
I'm actually far more confident I'm the two deep rotation at LB this year compared to last...DL I think pretty much everyone else agrees is the wildcard that could really hurt us throughout the year...

Defense issues - scheme? personnel? coaching?

Dline is the root cause of this.. the talent gap is considerable compared to all other groups on the team...the coaching staff then tries to compensate and leaves guys on islands and big chunk plays occur...
