Another one I remember personally was being on the field taking pictures when the Bulls were about to upset Southern Miss after all their alleged BS about us joining Conference USA.  We'd already been smacked by them the year or so before but this time....they came into RayJay.  It was Bulls 16-13 with seconds remaining and I was hauling ass to get off the field and into the stands to celebrate with family and friends as the filed goal attempt sailed wide.  Bulls upset the Golden Eagles!  Big win at the time.  I was celebrating big time! Had to prove we arrived time and time again (many times to our own fans).  For those interested in a taste of the era, here is a story from Alan Dell:

USF 16, SOUTHERN MISS 13 Bulls survive when as field goal misses

TAMPA -- Maybe some of those Conference-USA officials are right, the University of South Florida football team shouldn’t be in their league.

The Bulls deserve something better, Playing on their biggest stage since their birth six years ago, the Bulls knocked off C-USA poster boy Southern Mississippi, which has dominated the league nearly every season since its inception in 1996.

USF’s 16-13 triumph went down to the game’s last play when USM missed a 43-yard field goal attempt with no time left on the clock Saturday night at Raymond James Stadium.

Looking like a scene from a national championship celebration, fans poured out from the raucous crowd of 28,000 plus, after the errant field goal attempt went wide right.

The victory avenges a 41-7 trouncing the Bulls took at the hands of Southern Miss. two years ago in Hattiesburg and probably puts to rest for good the comments made by USM head coach Jeff Bower four years ago when he publicly talked about his displeasure that USF wasn’t ready to to be a member of C-USA.

“We need quality rather than quantity were the words from Bower that stuck in the throats of the USF players for four years, especially the seniors. They expected to being playing for a C-USA automatic bowl bid this year, instead of trying to sneak in as an independent.

    REST OF STORY

I remember their coach talking so much trash...that was awesome...

He did less than a week after El Toro’s post In February (old post). He must have been reading TBP and decided to take his advice, you cannot underestimate the influence we have on this board. I have the ability to shape and help mold the minds of millions of readers with my infinite wisdom and thought provoking dialogue and I don’t take this incredible power lightly.

    Clearly missed that...

You guys are actually bringing up what I consider a valid point.  Since the demotion, I have wondered how many potential players might have considered the program under better circumstances but dismissed USF since there was limited opportunity . Just a few years ago the Bulls had an offense which could score on anybody.  I wonder what could have been had the defense just had a 2-3  more playmakers.  We all remember the ones USF was able to entice to come here in the Big East days.   Anyway, at least now, everyone in theory has a chance when they start the season.

This was a HUGE deal with Leavitt when we came to the Big East...he legitimately sold the chance of winning a national championship...many players quoted Leavitt saying this...same thing applies again...this is big big news...

I will second that and actually good news for most CFB fans, I wasn’t even tuning into most of the playoffs or the championship game, got tired of the same old teams, it became redundant and a snooze fest.  It appears these morons figured out we all got tired of the Bama, Clemson, Ohio State playoffs, I am shocked but also happy…that is until c makes the playoffs before us.

It was so bland no doubt...excellent decision to push this forward...

I think Marsh was my biggest suprise. I think if he never bombed on the field last year people who be just as excited about him as they are for TM. He played PERFECT on Saturday, had the prettiest throws and also had a nice run for a touchdown. Im eating crow on this guy. I was hard on him last year.

He made one deep throw right on the money throwing off his back foot...I was shaking my head...that was pretty impressive

What I saw of McClain is that he ran the offense like QF as a junior/senior. He looked off a DB with a pump fake and hit the receiver over the top just the same as when QF  would shoulder pump fake to MVS and then hit him over the top on a hitch and go.
Now I know there’s no way he’s QF ready now but he had a much better command of the offense in the little action he had than Quinton flowers did as a freshman.

I agree, I was impressed how much he improved...from HS till now

I don't understand this thought process that McClain must be redshirted.  If he truly is the next QF, then get him on the field ASAP without delay.  I am not saying he is, but if the coaches feel he's the best, forget the redshirt.  An electric QB can take a team from 3 or 4 wins to 7 or 8 wins by himself.  You don't "save" special talents!!!  Coaches want to win now, and will play the guy they think will help them do that.

I'm OK with Cade starting season, but if he bombs out, get McClain on the field now.  Freshmen can come in and make a difference now.

Remember, QF wasn't QF when he started...

Whether allegations are true or not and I hope they’re not, considering this current cultural climate we’re in the only option is to gut the MBB coaching staff.  Anything less will be viewed as tolerating racism.

Why does USF make it so difficult for their fan base?  At this point, I’d cheer mediocrity in both MBB and football.  And mediocrity seems so far away.

No...lol we don't do that...Whether allegations are true are or not?  If they aren't true, you can't let the person go...due process still exist as far as I know....who knows, maybe in a year or two cancel culture will completely envelop us where due process is completely eradicated...but for the time being it still exist...

I vote for Stan Heath.  Big mistake letting him go.

I dunno.  When you hear that kind of rumor at the same time all the black players hit the portal...

Chris Torrello made this comment...just out of curiosity...what is the typical percentage of black players on a basketball team?  Again...there certainly could be an issue here and they need to be let go...maybe not...
