I'm not saying that Sawtelle is the end all be all, but you do realize we were 7-0 with him on the field and 6-0 without him. The defense wasn't great before he went out with injury, but we were doing enough to win. If he is healthy, he is the starter and one of the leaders on defense. Transfers don't come in and just take over a locker room. Respect and trust is earned and Nico has worked towards that with his teammates.

I agree

Not much bigger however Roberts struggled at the end of last year, the whole D obviously did but his lack of physicality was on display. 193 is generous and he played soft. Maybe he mailed it in like the rest of the guys on D, I just don’t feel comfortable with him playing SS, doesn’t possess the mentality IMO.
when was the last time you saw him or stood next to him? curious... you seem to be able to judge weight. And he wasn't the weak link in the run game last year... that was Thomas and Hoggins. It's why he ended up starting.

LOL...YOU know that Studstill is starting low in the box. Charlie is not going to let Roberts get mauled when you have a heat seeking missile in Studstill available.
I don't know anything except what the depth chart says... you're literally talking conjecture. I'm saying what the paper says. The new media guid is out with the fall depth chart. With the exception of KJS, if/when his waiver comes in, it's not going to look that differently in terms of starters.

Roberts will not start. You are fooling yourself. Safety or Corner?
according to the depth chart he's starting. At SS actually...

I noticed one of the threads was discussing the loss to UConn... but things were great.

If Barnett slings it this year like I think he will, his draft stock is going to sky rocket.
-
This is nonsense... Roberts is actually going to start and so is Sawtelle. Sanders is not going anyplace, it literally makes not sense for him to. I think with 1 or 2 exceptions and some guys being in the rotation, the Depth chart is what it is.
-
battle tested... and when he's not in there, you notice. He's been playing since is Rs freshman season and is a key on guy defense. I can see him opposite Macon... That is our best LB combination imo.

To show how bad the depth was on D from last year. There are some guys who played significantly, but are silent now that CCS raided the portal and brought in his type of recruits.
Names that I expect to transfer:
Sanders and Roberts.
I think Sawtelle's time will be reduced by the week, but could show up on special teams.
I hear more about Sails than Hampton. Hampton is solid, I like that we finally have depth. I hope Burnett can play safety and corner, if Sails is eligible.
Sawtelle is starting. I'm not sure why you think differently. Also, i dont think Sanders or Roberts is transferring. One will actually be starting and both will play a lot. Not being mentioned means nothing. This is practice.
I personally want Sawtelle in there.

Agree with them hammering the run game, esp so early in the season. With their typical size on O-line, I have a bad feeling they'll wear our D down & out. Hoping for the offense to be able to put up some numbers, that's the only way I see us having any chance.
Literally any team on their schedule can say that. I don't think they're going to run it as good as some think.
-
Things that jump out at me is the Dline has some size and the Oline is massive.

He is going to make the Browns roster...that work in the Alliance League helped him tremendously.
I always felt like if he got into a camp, he'd stick. He's a guy that 40's and verticals can't measure. He has just enough speed to go with the many skills he possesses as a RB

I agree. I think we’re about to see why he was considered a 5 star. I think he actually has a proper coach now on offense and the dude bulked up big time.
yeah he has. I think Gilbert did know how to utilize the talent he had on offense. Bell comes in and starts moving guys around and adding to the playbook... and actually trusting his QB and you see guys literally and figuratively changing how they approach the game and it seems like guys are reaching their potential. I look for Barnett to have a great season... But Cronk and Ford are going to a headache for guys too. Then St Felix, Wilcox, McDoom... we got a squad.
-
I think Barnett is about to light it up. What's even better is all the extra work he's put in has shown our other QBs the way. I think we see some 5 Star talent this season.

Screens to RBs... RBs catching passes out of the backfield by design. What is this madness?

I appreciate him being willing to change positions last year out of necessity, but I am really looking forward to him getting up dominate at how natural position all season long.
Yeah... last season saw him playing MLB which is not his forte... It also had us starting his backup at his end position. Was not ideal. I see so much athleticism in him. Takes good rushing angles and gets a low lean coming around the corner, with his speed and strength, he's going to be a problem.

Name calling when you made a faux pas and don’t have the stones to admit you are wrong. You are better than this Cali, give me the props that I am due and say I was wrong and you are right.
uh huh... dude stop @ing me. I literally give zero fks about what you think.
It was a nice win... but nah... nothing special.

I love that you know you are dead wrong saying that the Clemson team was better than Notre Dame and that you won't back down. You have a future in politics my friend.
I said a better win. <edited>

I think Reaves will be nearly unstoppable this season.

Yes, but it was still more impressive than the Clemson win, and that is what we are discussing.
I dont think Clemson win was that big. I say it was bigger because it was a bowl win. Neither game was a monumental win.

no... you just seem to embrace mediocrity .

Trying to change the subject, a bush league move. We were a shat 5-8 and dropping however this was our last monumental win against a team that was going to play for the national championship the following year, beating Clemson in an irrelevant bowl was not bigger than this was and you know it bro, just say uncle.
You're literally delusional and Im not your bro.

BS Cali, they beat Mich State#15 lost to a top 5 Michigan by less than a touchdown, lost by 3 to a top 25 FSU. Clemson was that year, biggest win was vs Ga tech. Don’t pull a PUC and just admit you are dead A$$ wrong.
8-5 and didn't finish the season ranked. it was a nice win... that's it.
nothing special.
what was our record that year?

8-5 ND team (tougher schedule) was much better than the 6-6 Clemson team that had wins over Presbyterian and North Texas. Actually not even close and beating ND in South Bend is not just a win.
USC beat them at Notre Dame and they almost lost to BC at home. They were 8-5 but not good. It's nice we beat them, but it was a down year for them.
Names that you are not hearing on D.

I'd argue LB was the weakness considering we started a 190 pound safety at one of the LB positions and had to move a DE to LB because of lack of depth. It was pretty obvious LB was a big problem last season. But J Thomas and Hoggins were not very good for us last season. Thomas got sat in favor of a freshman and Hoggins gave up big plays in both the run game and passing game. was ugly... now that I think about it... I can see why you said safety.
