I think you are correct. My guess is that he was never 100% during the summer camp. I’ve already crossed him off for the season.

    😂😂🤘🤘

The rise of Macon! He will solidify the middle.  He's the type of big athletic and fast LB we've been missing at the Mike position.  I think he's there to stay... even if Nicco gets back.  He's a more physical LB... big athletic guy who can hit and plays down hill.  Great tackler in juco... and tackling is tackling.  Definitely will miss Nicco is some aspects, but against the run I'd rather have Macon in there.

That's a coaching issue. Coaches will help from the sidelines.

I mean honestly Nicco has been gone since before spring.  He is a leader on defense but not the only one, the other guys have gotten use to him not being there.  I think we'll be fine.  I think Macon's starting was inevitable

Macon is a stud but has never played a down of division 1 football, or division 2 or 3, has not played a snap since 2016 and you say he has played enough football to QB this defense against a top 20 team, this is so optimistic it is borderline delusional, hope you are right Cali, not sure who your sources are but just hope they are right.

He was competing for a starting position at OK St and was going to be in the rotation before he got hurt.  He's showed so far here he's not lost a step... I think he'll be fine.  I'd feel better with him than a true freshman.  Besides... he's a different type of talent.  He's already been impressing guys, that tells me he still has his game.

My concern isn't physical. Anyone looking at the two can tell that Macon is physically more gifted. My bigger concern is LEADING the defense. Making calls on the field and correcting what other guys are doing. Who is going to do that for us with Nico out? I believe that is a big part of what hurt us in his absence last season.

Macon is a stud. I think he'll be just fine.  I love Sawtelle but if I'm being honest, Macon is made for the Mike LB position.  Nicco should be a Will tbo.  But he's played enough football to know what's going on.  I think he's going to elevate the defense.  It's not like having Reaves out there last season, Macon knows how to play that spot and knows he keys and reads.  That was Reaves' biggest problem last season... the keys are different for a DE and if you don't know what the reads are as a LB, last year happens.

  5. They'll be lucky to get to 200 yards rushing as a team.  I just dont think their oline will be that good this year nor do I think Taylor will have the type of season he had last season.  Taylor was running behind a monster line that continuity but saw 4 guys leave.  I get it... they can run the ball, but that changes from year to year how effective and if you don't think losing four 3 plus year starters wont make a difference, you're not considering some important ****.   I think we win going away.  I don't think they'll do well in the weather, a ton of first time starters, road game with a team you don't know a lot about and a coach with this game circled because he wants a signature win.  We're going to win.

I'm thinking they might use him more as a blocking WR on some quick hitters and jet sweeps. Almost like having a FB for our speedy wide-outs.

I'm not sure... likely but the guy averaged 20.5 yards a catch and from the looks of it he can run.  Was an 2nd team all conference guy.  He actually just may be good at a lot of things.  A guy who got overlooked.

I thought Bellamy was a stud as well but didnt think he would beat out Laing. As for Mason, I finally did my research and he put up some serious numbers, so its good 2 see that his skill set matches his look.

Macon was the national junior college defensive player of the year.  I was completely shocked he came to us from OKst.  But I'll take it.

Two surprises are seeing Xavier Weaver (an unheralded true freshman) and Kevin Purlett, a converted TE transfer from Florida Tech, backing up St. Felix.

Keven Purlett... hey... he's a guy who can line up outside or in the hback position.  He has some college game experience, we got another McCants except even bigger.

Hopefully Macon has a solid understanding of the defense and assignments already. As much as anything, Nico was the QB of the defense last season and knows everyone's assignments. His leadership will be missed on Friday.

I just want to say that if Macon is starting, Nicco will have to move to another LB or he may not see his spot again.  Macon is a pro MLB... that guy is an absolute beast and is capable of changing a game himself.  Macon is the real deal.  He's a Sunday guy.

Bellamy is definitely a recruit i liked and thought will play freshman year, but geez buddy made the 2 deep. Our defense is deep this year!

Yeah... he jumps off the tape.  I'm not shocked he's on the 2 deep.

We need to be flexible depending upon the match-up. A 3-3-5 will probably serve us better against UCF, but the 4-3 will be better for Wisconsin. Hopefully, we see good adjustments and growth from everyone (players and coaches included) all season long.

    I agree...

  10. I  remember our defense going from barely a top 100 to a top 30 over the off-season.  The difference was Senat, Hector, and Love getting better over that summer.  I think we stop them.  Most haven't even noticed we changed our defense... which is astonishing actually.  Nobody has even brought up the fact that we're not in a 3-3-5 but rather a 4-3...  So why should I listen when someone says they don't think the defense will improve?

We reshirted a lot of talent last year. Everybody is familiar with Slade and Macon, but Tyrik Jones in my opinion will be that guy who makes a lot of impact plays. I just don't see us not improving on defense.

New Players on the defensive line or players playing for the first time –

    1. Slade DE
    2. Macon LB
    3. Tyrik Jones DE (Most slept on addition I feel will be an impact player)
    4. Thomas Nance –DE (Will play as a freshmen)
    5. John Waller DT
    6. Armon Williams DT
    7. Blake green DT
    8. Trey Laing LB (He played like 2 seconds in the bowl game so I still added him to this list)
    9. Camp Cobbler LB (Freshman who will ball out on special teams. Remember this name)

I think we see a vast improvement on defense.  I noticed that we have a base 4-3...

Sawtelle Boyles and Grier to me is a good starting group and the second group... I do think Macon will see a lot of playing time and could end up starting by seasons end.

  12. I think the defense will be more stout than most think.  I think we'll get good disruption and we have LBs who can clean up now.  I think we'll hold Taylor to under 200... and I think our secondary is actually a good match with their Wrs.

I think the offense will hit on some big plays early... once Bell gets into a rhythm play calling, I think we'll pull away last.  Bell is going to attack their 3-4 and good luck with Ford in the slot.  I think we'll have an athletic advantage and that their inexperience at QB will factor in.

These last couple days have been extra hot even for August.  The friday forecast will be back to normal Florida weather.  Yes warm and alot of humidity, but it being a night game still dont think it makes a big difference only a little.  Now of this was an afternoon game i would have completely opposite take.  This is one that if was a Nooner which everybody loves so much, would have been a nice advantage for us.

Say what you want... it's hard to deal with.  Coming from Southern California were it is just as hot as Florida,  actually hotter but no humidity, I struggle when I get to Florida because of the humidity.  It takes me several days, nearly a week before I feel like I'm even beginning to adjust to it.  You have a bunch of  men who are not used to this, it's been in the 70s ad 80s in Wisconsin, so this weather will have an affect on them... especially bigger guys.  No way around it.  It will be in the upper 80s durning kickoff and the humidity of the air will offer no relief.  It's not a night game, it's at 4 pm.  Will be night by the end of the game but if you dont think the weather will be an advantage for the team that lives and practices in it, you're sadly mistaken.

Back to normal in Florida is crushing if it's not your normal.

We shall see. We have 1 more week until our first game. Im not trying 2 convince anybody we are a good team anymore.

    :04-cheers: Right there with you.

So there is a Miami player who they expected to receive a waiver but still haven't heard back from the NCAA.  So we're not alone.  #FreeKJ
