  1. No worries about the UCF/USF mix up. It happens several times every ESPN telecast. Hopefully Jeff Scott builds this program to the point is doesn’t happen anymore.

A lot of people on here are salty and jaded. Understandably so in a lot of ways, but I’m not going to pile on a Clemson fan that takes the time to shed some light on our new coach. So take those comments with a grain of salt.

Our program, U.S.F., has not done much to distinguish ourselves in the last 10-12 years so there is nobody to blame but ourselves. That said, the Mike Kelly/Jeff Scott tandem definitely feels like that’s all about to change.

I think it’s cool that our programs are linked now. I’ve always liked Clemson, particularly after Dabo took over.

But at least 2 of those people combined this trip with recruiting the Tampa area.  I'm sure they wish him well but if they had recruiting visits scheduled for Oklahoma they may not have made this trip.

Fair enough. I take everything I said back. I’m no longer excited about the hire.

I think the number of individuals who from Clemson came down to see him speak at USF spoke volumes to me.  That is very interesting and says a lot about Coach Scott.  Additionally, when I watched his speech, he was deliberate in acknowledging people both at USF and Clemson plus people that came before him at USF.   He pointed people out in the crowd, asked his parents, wife, and daughter to stand.   I think we have someone that has a special leadership skill set that you simply cannot replicate.

This really stood out to me as well and added to the excitement. The guy is clearly held in very high regard and the support from his fellow coaches and Clemson fans is frankly like nothing I’ve ever seen. It’s beyond a breath of fresh air.

Plus, this guy is a COACH. He’s an ace recruiter. We have not had anyone like this guy before (CJL is in a class of his own as the father of the program so I won’t include him in the last comment). But this one does absolutely feel different.

Michael Kelley has a lot to do with it as well. I’ve been pretty vocal here, although I’m not a “regular” poster...but I’ve been voicing my concern about the state of USF Football.

Everything about this hire, at this time feels right. The relationship with the program to Jeff Vinik etc....it just seems like we are about to take the next step to where Leavitt got us to....Holtz, Taggart, and Strong were just space takers in the grand scheme of things. It feels like we are at the beginning stages of building upon the momentum that has been missing for a long, long time.

    GO BULLS!!!!

  4. Big ups to the Clemson fans and thanks for the support. Like others have said, we will take all the support we can get.

I’ve been rooting for Clemson when I have seen them play in recent years. I really like Dabo and the whole vibe of that program. I’ll be rooting for CJS and the Tigers in the playoffs. It can only help us in recruiting...like someone else mentioned...on TV they will be saying “there is the next coach of the USF Bulls” that can only help us.

    GO BULLS! Go Tigers!

  5. I was firmly in the Leavitt camp, but this hire is starting to feel pretty good to me.

I watched a couple YouTube videos on Coach Scott today. He seems like a solid guy and is a “lifer”. Coaches kid, went on recruiting trips with his father when he was 7 years old. Spent a lot of time around FSU and St. Bobby in the Charlie Ward years.

He has been with Dabo every step of the way. I’ve always liked Dabo, seems like an awesome guy and and awesome Coach. CJS is a WR guru and by all accounts a great recruiter. He has a helluva pedigree...I am supporting him 100%. It “feels” like it was the best choice for the program right now (if it couldn’t be Leavitt).

I will be quite underwhelmed and disappointed if Leavitt is hired, but I will support him as the next head coach. I just want conference titles, and I don't think Leavitt can get the job done to bring the trophies home.

Not trying to pick a fight but I don’t understand this mentality and you’re not the first person to say this. Why can’t Leavitt win conference titles?

I understand that he didn’t win titles when he was here the first time. I was one person at the time that became frustrated with that fact as well. However, a lot of time has passed and I have had time to re-evaluate my thoughts on that.

For one, we can’t forget that he built a program from nothing, with nothing. In 10 years we went from not existing to competing in the Big East and knocking off some giants along the way. If I’m not mistaken he’d never been a head coach prior to that. This coupled with the fact that he’s gotten tremendous experience since he’s left. I can’t imagine how much of a better coach he has to be now than he was then. I would expect to challenge and win conference championships on a regular basis if he comes back.
