  1. It's an OCS. They're 0-10. Those tickets were sold. Whether or not they bother showing up? That's another story.
  2. 49 points is a lot. You're right..but losing to Troy State tells me they weren't psychologically prepared (coaching) to beat an inferior team (coaching). This wasn't losing a game vs a conference opponent. This was losing to a creampuff.
  3. I think the '91-92 Bulls were without a doubt a better squad than the '11-12 Bulls. They just had the unfortunate draw of Alonzo Mourning and the Hoyas for their first round tilt. To me, that was the best 'balanced' team USF's ever had.
  4. That's such a ridiculous loss. I don't care what '5' you pick, that '5' should be able to beat the best '5' Troy can put on the floor. The disparity *should* be that much, particularly when you look at their respective SOS's.
  5. I think he means to say get where the ACC were when they were FBS qualifying conference. Which would be a step up from where we are now.
  6. I went hunting from that link into the conversations and found the 'game thread'. One thing that jumped out at me is the recurring theme of 'dayum, these USF kids are making us look so slow!' And it was summed up quite nicely by this comment:
  7. Alabama tried like hell to pry Leavitt from USF..to be their HEAD COACH. He was loyal to USF. Golf carts and portable classrooms. He was fiery. He was a bit arrogant. He also ran out in front of the team as they burst out of the tunnel as USF Football was garnering national attention.. The egos up top (Woolard, Genshaft) were uneasy around what it meant to have a coach like Leavitt. Leavitt had ALL the makings of a successful D1 HC, and he exhibited some of the traits you'd expect from that type of ego. He clashed with them repeatedly, and somehow, some way, Woolard and Genshaft began to marginalize what Leavitt meant. Leavitt smacking Miller was the gift falling into their lap. And the 'kid's' father who pressed the issue? Instead of just sucking it up and reaching a settlement with the school, he insisted on media exposure. The kid's dad wasn't being a 'dad' at that point, he was being a whore. Anyway, they fired Leavitt after Leavitt was caught in a lie (Leavitt was essentially being advised that this is a 'wink wink' testimony), etc and that was the excuse they needed to run him from the campus. And with that, they damaged his reputation. Leavitt's a freakin legend at USF, and shortsighted or 'blinded by Big East $$' administrators fudged the direction of USF Football..a direction C-J-L created. Oh, and GO BULLS GREAT WIN IT'S FUN TO NOT HAVE TO HATE ON TAGGERT! [drops mic, feedback fills room]
  8. Set aside students and alumni. Fans are sheep. The single biggest driver for perception is how well the AAC positions itself in terms of media exposure.
  9. Temple's D was rather vaunted coming into last night's slate...But it seemed what..there were a half dozen plays last night where when a USF skill player got into the def backfield, it just didn't end well for Temple. That's either an indictment of Temple's D, or a shout out to what's going on in Tampa. I prefer the latter.
  10. Did you see the juke Flowers laid on the DB that was 'arriving to the scene' to tackle him? DB was turned around in the wrong direction, and Flowers was off in the right direction for several more yards..
  11. Quinton Flowers took another step forward to one day playing on Sundays. Not a prototypical QB in the slightest, it's apparent his better days are ahead of him, yet. I *LOVE* when USF has a QB the DEF must 'game' for. It makes the 'art of the possible', well, possible.
  12. For the reasons I've already outlined for the antiseptic to the game day experience that is RJS, if you have a stadium on campus, the tickets will move. Tickets used to move when football was new for USF, and to a lesser extent they were d_amn good under Leavitt. However, once the ticket becomes 'easy to come by', as in walk up tickets are usually ALWAYS AVAILABLE, then there's no motivation to buy the ticket. With an OCS comes scarcity. Get your tickets now. Motivation. Do you really need help with such a fundamental economic principle? They're inextricably linked. The only way you'd not succeed with an OCS is if they built an 80k monstrosity. They don't even need a top bowl. Just a 40k lower bowl. Set the student section at a variable amount to encourage the students to get their tickets. The alumni aren't going to RJS because they may already go to RJS on Sundays. They'd be motivated to go on Saturday to revel in the game day experience. You could not be further from the truth when you say 'winning, and only winning' drives attendance. Basic understanding of economics tells you that with scarcity comes demand. There is NO scarcity of tickets at RJS.
  13. What part of land grant university doesn't ring true? It also is a directional U. The latter part primarily is what makes it harder for USF (and UCF for that matter) to recruit viable talent with options to come here. An OCS would be a step in the right direction. I don't mean to denigrate USF. I'm only calling it like it is. I mean, I only went there because I got (an underage) DUI and drunken disorderly conviction and UofF, despite a 1988 SAT of 1240 and a decent yet, marijuana stained GPA in my quiver, weren't enough for UF to 'look the other way'. USF served its purpose for me, and I as a result bleed green and gold. Game Day is supposed to mean something. At USF, it means little. It would mean a lot more with an OCS. Feel free to throw me some more shade.
  14. I'm saying a 40-50k seat stadium needs to be built. You'll EASILY get 10k students. It's an on campus event, and it feeds and grows. RJS is the antiseptic to the college football experience. There are what..over 100k USF alumni in the area. You think they'd have a hard time filling out a stadium if built on campus? I'm not asking you to presuppose Custer didn't die at Little Big Horn. I'm only asking you to look beyond the death sentence that is RJS. Miami made it work with the Orange Bowl, because they were a massively popular college football powerhouse, and they filled that stadium with what, 95% of the people never even having remotely the qualifications to be accepted into U of M. UCLA makes it work at the Rose Bowl because they're freakin UCLA. You *need* an OCS to drive attendance. The building becomes part of the lore. The team being good helps of course, But the crowd helps the team win by giving it the HFA it needs when worthy opponents tread upon our campus' hallowed grounds.
  15. Ah. There's no OCS to have an opinion of, btw. You meant to say you don't care about my opinion on the benefits of an OCS. What about my opinion of the merits of an OCS do you find objectionable?
  16. You're assuming kids won't flock to the OCS because of their experience with RJS. There's a flaw in that logic. RJS requires planning to attend the event. Football is out of sight, out of mind as well. Put the stadium on campus, and the thing sells itself.
  17. hahaha and now I achieved another negative point. What am I saying that is so wrong? We all know we need an OCS. It's good money to invest in the program.
  18. I'm saying that with an OCS, students are going to FLOCK to the stadium because it's a party atmosphere by default. The alumni will fill out the stands based on current season's squad effectiveness, but the students will be there. Obviously a team that sucks isn't going to draw well. But USF is playing with a hand tied behind its back by not being able to enjoy a home field advantage, and being denied the experience of watching the big game on Autumn Saturdays. All of that ties into the college experience. There are 25 schools without on campus stadiums. 25 schools' students without knowing what it's like to have a visiting team 'invade your turf'. 25 schools that don't know what it's like to wake up a bit hungover from last night's party, heading over to the cafeteria to eat a pile of breakfast, get back to the dorms, shower, crack a beer and start to plod over to the stadium. Instead they're bussed. That's so friggin defeatist. While you're right to a degree that RJS plays a factor in that, it would help immensely more to have an OCS. RJS is a freakin mausoleum in comparison to an effective OCS. As for players preferring RJS over other locations? I'd argue that they say that primarily because it gets them out of their cold weather northeastern locale, and well, home field advantage is effectively neutralized by the stadium itself.
  19. And my OCS #HotTake is netting me some negative points. Go figure.
  20. I know it's a commuter school, but 18% live on campus. You're alienating 6k people right there by not having an OCS. A vasts majority of students live in apartment complexes within a couple miles' radius surrounding USF. You're not making it easy for them to get to games, either. The bigger issue though is the homogenization of college football Saturday USF effectively 'whitewashes' by not having an OCS. You can argue that, while undoubtedly it makes it harder to recruit talent to come to USF, that it also may affect who chooses USF to attend. Kids want college football as part of their on campus experience.. I mean I know that at the end of the day USF is a directional, land grant university with about as much prestige as a care package from your mother..but you couldn't be more wrong if you think an OCS is something "we don't need". We've needed an OCS like a hooker needs Abreva since the beginning.
  21. I think you're conflating attendance and the value of an on campus stadium. For starters, an on campus stadium helps IMMENSELY with recruiting. Second, not to go all biblical / Field of Dreams here, but 'Build it, and they will come'. Part of the value in an OCS is the cachet it provides. The unity. The 'big game on Saturday' event that Florida and FSU and hell, UCF are beating us over our heads with. Football *NEEDS* to be played on campus for that reason alone.. Back to attendance...I'll just say this: playing in front of a half/third filled RJS that is even tarped off on the upper deck rings hollow. I'm not saying they need an 80k seat stadium. Hell, make it 30k for all I care. Make the ticket 'tough to come by'. But even at schools like FIU and FAU, there's a palpable home field advantage for those programs...RJS is too big, because the fans are too few, essentially.
