  1. True,

watching Floyd play you can tell this is the QB Holtz needs to run his system. Unfortunately BJD is ideal for a spread offense that Leavitt ran, but not the i-formation/wing/pistol offense Holtz runs. I actually like watching a USF QB stand in the pocket and deliver a pass like Floyd has done in the last games. The kid was the 3rd stringer so I wasn't expecting much but I dont know I can see how Holtz just didn't inherit the right personnel for his offense. Little by little its getting there IMO.

  2. Why does everyone here expect the freshmen and sophomores that Holtz recruited to dominate college football?

Hyperbole aside, we've had success pretty quickly with the last two redshirt freshmen we've brought in to start - cut our fan base a little slack on that one. Granted, they weren't Holtz' recruits, but Floyd's the first Holtz-recruited QB that was never a walk-on that started for us ... consider expectations tempered now, though.

Grothe was a program changer but still threw as many picks as TDS. Daniels didn't have true success at QB till his junior and senior seasons and I remember his Soph season was AWFUL. He just made a huge splash beating FSU with 2 long passes and a long rush. Both still don't have the numbers that Blackwell had at QB here so its not like these guys came in and became conference leaders in anything other than total yards.

  3. I don't see how anyone feels they can blame any of this on injuries. The "3rd string QB" was Holtz's recruit. In 3 seasons, Holtz has brought in Floyd and Gunsby at QB so I don't see any blame other than the present staff zeroing in on only one QB target each season.

Yeah it was his recruit...meaning he's just a redshirt FRESHMAN.

Why does everyone here expect the freshmen and sophomores that Holtz recruited to dominate college football?

Give these kids time to mature.

  4. If we lose every game from here on and are demoted to FCS football I will still bleed green and gold and go to games at Ray Jay till I rot. Sure its not right to just sit and watch the program lose but its my school and its my team.

Even though I'm just a senior at USF its easy to see who are the "fans" who somehow became fans after the #2 ranking here. Our bandwagon is now a single-engine but I kind of like the fact the dead weight is falling off.

  5. At halftime Lou Holtz said that Skip did a great job at UConn & ECU & that he will do well where ever he is. What is interesting is that he didn't mention USF. Anyone else pick up on that?

He was at those programs for longer than he was at USF.

On another note. Wasn't Price supposed to be the next Kellen Winslow?

Hopefully not, Winslow never lived up to expectations at Miami and Price is a truefrsh

  6. Everyone here should be keeping a close eye on Floyd.

I don't know...a week ago when I posted on this thread I was "Get some reps in a losing season! Hurray! GO Bulls! WE SUCK!"

NOW it is starting to sound as if AW isn't coming here. Ummm...so...Floyd needs to work hard and make a showing and I do have expectations.

We'll have a QB tall enough to see over the middle for the first time in like 6 years....maybe that will change things up

I don't know why everyone thinks Floyd is so tall. He's listed as 6'1", same as BJ (6/6'1"). Eveld is the tall one.

As a student who sees Floyd and BJ on campus all the time (even played beach volleyball with Floyd once lol) I can tell you that Floyd is MUCH taller than BJD

  7. Those who say Skip has done a bad job recruiting are just mad for no reason. (Besides our record)

Skip has recruited Davis (Our best WR as a true Soph...potential to be the best WR in USF history), Price (should be a stud), DV Montgomery (Freshman showing early signs to be a good 3rd down possession receiver), Eric Lee (Defensive lineman who made quite a couple of plays against UCONN, Freshman) and commitment from a kid who shows incredible maturity off the field, will play in the All-American Bowl (seriously the friggin All-American Bowl! Did you ever think a USF commit at QB would do that ?), and has the knowledge needed to succeed at QB with the right coaching.

Meanwhile Leavitt's seniors are all getting called out and losing their spots starting (Lanaris, Barrington). The man was grandfathered into too many players, BJ was a spread QB who freakishly failed at an i-formation offense. I always thought Holtz should've gone with Landi for his system but our lack of WR really sucked by then.

Skip is getting the talent, just let it mature people.

  8. I doubt the program is ruined. Last I checked we're not being demoted back to FCS status. Or being kicked out of the Big East. That's pretty much everything Leavitt worked for. He didn't get much further than that.

Hilarious. The man went from a trailer park to BCS #2 status in 10 years. Yeah, thats all Leavitt worked for.

    Be correct. 9-4 season.

The idea of this program being destroyed is stupid. Is Skip the right guy? No, doesn't look like it. But, that doesn't mean there isn't some coach who can come in and get this train running.

Ok 9-4 record season, in a BCS conference, with mostly ConfUSA-level and FBS talent seniors. My point is its ridiculous to question Leavitt's work ethic at this point.

  9. I don't think most of this is on Skip. That is a popular sentiment around here, but our senior class this year may well be the worst as far as team leadership USF has ever had. A head coach doesn't define the character of a team. Seniors have to set that tone. Seniors should be addressing the lack of effort, but instead they pretty much lead it. Skip is to blame only in that he doesn't see the problem or has failed yet to address it.

wow. you don't watch our games do you?

I attend most of them, but business kept me away tonight (fortunately). I watch them all. But I don't just go blindly attacking folks as if replacing one guy is an easy answer. This year we have had a complete lack of effort on many occasions When this team can run with some very talented programs and then struggles with Ball State and Nevada it is a lack of effort. Lack of effort is about leadership in the trenches, on the field. Not coaching.

look what replacing one guy did for san fran niners. it's not a lack of effort all of a sudden. it's coaches that don't put their players in a position to succeed. BTW many seniors have been benched. any different results?

The 49ers turned it around becase they hired CJL.

    Surprise! You don't get sarcasm!

  10. Heres a quick reality check for all of you people that think we can just give a blank check to any coach to come coach our program if Skip gets fired.

    http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/02/02/ous-wilson-vts-foster-chased-usf-job/

    Kevin Wilson

    Bud Foster

    Kevin Gilbride

    Tim Murphy

    Calvin Magee

    Shaun Watson

    Dan McCarney

So out of these candidates who would you take over Skip? Are there any other REALISTIC coaches out there after this season?
