  1. 5 pages but I wanted to make a point I don't think I saw on here which is why Skip is not the right fit for USF and why it's not BJ holding us back. BJ has PLENTY enough talent to have won ALL of our games this season. It was the COACHING that sold USF out. 10 points in that USF game were directly responsible to piss poor game management. When your 8 year old son is watching and saying, "Dad, why did they do that?" and all his experience is in playing NCAA football for 2 years! lol EVERY game I've watched this season we have BUTCHERED our use of time outs, challenges/not challenging, play calling etc. You could give this guy a roster of 5 star guys at every position and we'd STILL LOSE games that another guy would win with lesser talent due to game management.

If you've ever played sports chances are you've played on good teams and not so good teams and there's one common thread between those that win more than they lose...the good ones play to their team's strengths and they inspire their team through process or being able to pull diamonds out of the rough.

If we were playing this year's schedule with the teams CJL built and coached during his time with Grothe at the helm, we'd be looking at a 1 loss season TOPS this year. That's how pathetic this schedule is now vs. when the Big East was at it's best since we've been here.

Watch college football and FEW have the escapability and raw physical tools BJ has. Do you see any other QBs breaking off the types of runs he does? The long ball he hits? Anyone can tell he has NO TOUCH on the 7-15 yard passes so guess what? DON'T CALL THEM and sure as hell don't make 20 out of 25 pass plays these exact type of passes!

The problem is this coaching staff has no friggin clue how to adapt their play calling to his strengths. They should be running the read option with the occasional play action DEEP! I If you gave Saban this team, same talent, we wouldn't go undefeated, but we'd be no worse than a 2 loss team based on coaching alone and devising a game plan that actually plays to his strengths.

Living in Alabama, I have to watch more Alabama games and listen to them on the radio 24/7/365 more than anyone on earth should ever be exposed to. But I can tell you this. Watching Saban call a game vs. Holtz would show how embarrassing our game management is. Half of what makes Saban special is that every season he adapts. When he has a pocket passer whose accurate but not a big arm? He throws slants, screens and button hooks. When he has one with a big arm, but little accuracy, he leans on a strong run game, occasional long passes and lets the defense do their thing.

When you coach, it's like when you play, some have "it" during the heat of the game, and some don't. The ones with "it" always seem to know when they're calling the time out before the play starts vs. watching 30 seconds run off and then calling one. They know when to go for it by knowing where their team "is" at that moment. They can see a weakness or strength and make adjustments to maximize those advantages.

Have you seen ANY of this with Holtz? I hated to see CJL leave, but understand it had to be done and was behind Holtz, but 25 games later or whatever, I've seen enough to know he is OVERWHELMED when the ball kicks off.

If USF wants to move forward, we need an expert who can "own" one side of the ball to give this team an identity. With Saban, it's defense. With Leach it was offense. With Miles it's knowing when to call the crazy ass play he knows they can pull off. Top teams aren't perfectly well rounded most years, they have one thing they do really well and it usually reflects the personality of the coach.

From what I can tell, Holtz brings APR and nice manners. Neither of which wins football games.

    "Mic Drop"...

    very good post.

les miles wins with below average QB play all the time.

    2010 they go 11-2

Jordan Jefferson had a QB rating of 115 with 7 passing TDs and 10 picks

last year kansas state went 10-2 with a QB that had 317 carries and a 3.6 ypc average. his passing and rushing stats w ere worse than BJs

great coaches find a way to win

give any of those coaches our roster and they easily compete for conference title.

Kansas State must have had a great defense then. Who was their DC? We should hire him...wait...scratch that idea.

nah they were bottom half of country. cosh is running skip's defense though.

kansas state's coach just knew how to shorten games and keep other teams offense off the field. #4 in the country for time of possession. even with the #108 passing offense in country.

here's an interesting stat. we were #110 in country for TOP even with the #1 rushing offense in conference and #31 rushing offense (just 2 spots behind ksu) in the country. odd.

No such thing. Skip and Fitch make the offensive playcalling and stay away from defense and their playcalling a good amount of the game, which makes sense because Skip's career as player and coach have all revolved around the offense. Kind of like CJL and the offense when he was here. Cosh is the problem.

  2. Another reason I hold grudge against BJD is because he cuts people in line at the cafeterias and every time someone says something he says something along the lines of "Dont you know who I am?" Its happened twice to me and my roommate and co-workers. I know this doesn't have to do with football but this kid needs a REALITY check. Holtz should give it to him.

  3. the other d1 coaches that recruited him were right

he is not a d1 qb

yes he makes an occassional great play

yes he has great numbers against crappy teams

    he doesnt win

he cant throw a catchable ball consistently

    he makes bad decisions

    we don't use him right.

skip tries to make BJ adapt to his offense

He should adapt his offense to BJ's abilities

    feel sorry for the kid

he would be blowing up in Snyder's adapted offense. That Klein guy is getting some good press. he just carries it 20+ times per game, averages 3.6 ypc and throws it 15 times per game.

BJ is averaging 33 pass attempts per week. not exactly adapting to his strengths.

BJD is a dud... he failed under Leavitts BJ friendly system, and he has failed under Skips...

Regardless of which system he is under he makes the same mistakes.

so you blame a QB for not fitting into the system but not the system for adapting to the QBs strengths?

BJD is one dimensional... he runs and tosses the ball up when he can't run anymore... more often then not when he tosses the ball up its an INT

The entire BEast figured this out long ago which is why we get our asses handed to us by them every single season.

The system is not the problem, its BJD... we need a QB that can actually... well... throw the **** ball consistently

so tom brady is one dimensional. he can't run at all.

maybe that's why belicheck doesn't call 33 QB draws a game.

plenty of college offenses have been quite successful with a QB that isn't a great thrower.

apparently after 2+ years holtz hasn't figured out Daniels strength isn't passing the ball. he threw 33 times in a 1 score game. nice play calling.

Tom Brady can throw a ball accurately and consistently anywhere from 10 to 50 yards... BJD can't do neither.

    +10000000000000000000000

Sorry but that argument is ridiculous. A QB is supposed to manage the game and be and be an accurate passer, if he can scramble, then thats just a plus.

  4. When CJL was here, it was obvious our defense was always the focal point of our team. They were tough and caused a lot of turnovers while the offense struggled under our incompetent O-Coordinators. However, this was our identity, and it was a good one especially when we reached #2 in '07. Now under Holtz defense obviously has now taking a back seat while maintaining the incompetent offense. If this year ends like we're all expecting after Rutgers then we seriously need to think about going to hiring a defensive minded coach.

I remember Bud Foster interviewed for the USF job after the slap heard around the world. If Skip does go I highly suggest that Woolard see if Mr. Foster is still interested in the job. After reading his bio and seeing the rankings his defenses are usually in I wouldn't mind giving this guy a shot if hes still available:

  5. I've never been a fan of a team where the QB can throw 3-4 INTs a game (like BJ has his whole career) but hes "just having a bad game" without even a glance at giving the back-up a chance. I really dont understand why BJD has had a golden starting ticket his whole career at USF, honestly, Landi when he was a QB would've been perfect for Holts'z tall mobile QB offense. And as a student at USF I can tell you that BJD walks around campus like "hes the man" cutting people at the Argos and Andros without caring because "hes the starting QB." All i'm saying is its time for Holtz to make a statement for the future if he wants to keep his job.

  6. Is he in the USF Hall of Fame? If not, we should think about it. Sure he only played here half a year, but he dominated when he did. And I think it would greatly help when recruits see his face up there when they visit our athletics building.

  7. Great stuff. I came to USF in 2009 and I honestly cannot believe how much our school has grown in three years. When I came here our soccer stadium was a track stadium, crappy baseball stadium, and the Sun Dome was falling apart. Now we have one of the best college basketball arenas, a beautiful soccer stadium, and luxury baseball stadium. Our recruiting is gonna sky rocket, I'm sure one major sport will win a national championship within 10 years. Go Bulls!
