We have shown 3 weaknesses so far this season:

    1. Short to intermediate passing - Teams are playing off of our WRs and making us drive it down the field. Our counter to this has been running the hell out of the ball to the tune of around 300 yards a game the past 2 weeks and using the screen pass and quick passes to the flats. It's worked okay but is contingent on Flowers being able to make that pass. Hopefully this continues to be successful against a little bit more challenging teams like Temple, Navy, and Memphis.

    2. We've been fumble prone - Mack has turned the ball over twice after big plays, hopefully we don't run him right after he gets a big run again for a bit. It seems he may be susceptible to getting winded and not securing the ball as well. Adams has coughed it up a bit and will definitely be targeted quite a bit going forward. Lastly Flowers also has fumbled the ball when in space. Ball security has to be a priority going forward. 4 turnovers versus any of our next opponents probably will earn us a big fat L.

    3. Defensive Line play - We have been able to do better against the run the last two games but I'm still not impressed and Temple could really put a hurting on our line play this week, not to mention what Navy will do to us. Outside of playing a 3rd linebacker I'm not sure what else we can do. We have to tackle in space and it appears our back 7 has been much better at it. D-line play on passing plays has been horrible when it's only the front 4. Without the blitz our team has not been able to get any push at all. Thankfully Woodie has been dialing up the blitz from all over the place. Only issue is if we aren't pulling a lineman into a zone style coverage or if we continue to rush 5-6 people we're going to get gashed for big plays against good teams.

Fumbles seem fluky but Flower's ability to make those short to intermediate passing is going to be a problem if we're unable to get stops on the other side. Our defense will have to continue to get stops when our offense has issues moving the ball just like they did in the first and second quarters against UCONN. Lets see if they continue to improve and can continue to keep teams out of the endzone. We'll find out in 4 days what this team is made of. Hopefully we'll be happy with what we see.

    4. Run D

We lost the ONLY game that mattered to most people in the bay area. Season was over and USF was once again resigned to afterthought status after that. The people on this board and a few die hards are the only ones that care about an AAC championship.

    This.

Sustained success or a win versus nationally relevant teams to get people talking about USF.

Unless you're in Tally or Gainesville, sports fans in FL need sustained success from their team to get fans to the games. Bulls, Bucs, Hurricanes, Jags, Panthers, Dolphins and Rays all have issues. Lightning have turned it around under Vinik(Bucs being down has helped) recently, but they've had their issues in the past.

Can someone tell me why these writers continue to think UCF has an edge over USF?

They just came off a doughnut season, USF has better academics (USF is emerging preeminent based on objective data), and a larger media market.

Is it the size of UCF, the OCS, The lack of an NFL team, the BCS win?????

There must be an explanation for the love affair.

I notice it too. I think it's the Fiesta Bowl win and Bortles.

If this is pre-Fiesta, I think USF is mentioned more than them.

I don't know but I do know that it's a pretty big deal at USF so I hope they tell all their friends and get more people to show up at games.

Speaking out attendance....I heard the announcers say that Syracuse had 32k(announced) at their game last night against #13 lville.

Right.  FWIW, I'm expecting a whole lot of silence from USF regarding expansion until a decision is finally made by the Big XII to expand or not.  I think the press release that USF intends to publish will probably rehash what they said the last time - "we want to compete at the highest levels, positioning ourselves for success, we're actively monitoring all opportunities that are in the best interest of the school," etc.  I'm not sure how anyone could interpret quiet negotiations as "not quite working out" - how could we really know until decisions are made?

I wasn't interpreting it as not working out - Just simply wondering why they they feel the need to say something now. As a couple of other have pointed out, maybe it's just a matter of trying ease some  minds about the process.

If they come out with the public pandering maybe.

The ECU Athletics Twitter account just posted about how they'd make a great travel partner for West Virginia with all the areas the Big XII is in colored purple, and Joey Knight was responding to that when he said he'd expect a USF statement sometime soon. I'd be disappointed if we came out with something even close to that publicly, but I don't think that will be the case.

I did see the tweets from Ecu and Joey's response.

As days go by, I can't help feel like USF is slowly moving out of the picture. I hope their statement has a theme of quiet confidence. Not really sure how much more they can say that they already haven't, but we'll see.

We will get there, this will be a good season for us and hopefully we continue to move the right direction in our money sports. Tampa still needs to become a bleed green and gold city. Unfortunately it is still a much more Garnet and whatever, and a blue and orange type of town. Still peeved that blocks away from USF st Pete when I lived down town it was so hard to find some place to watch a USF game. Really stoked for the fire that is building in the fanbase this year, it can't be overstated how huge a win over FSU will be this year, in Tampa.

    This.

Big win over a ranked team will get the mojo back.
