  1. All those going to the game stay safe! Wouldn't catch me anywhere near Memphis, don't even care how good their BBQ is.

Oh come on, 48 hours is all about tv ratings

if you join a gang, and sell drugs...your life expectancy drops dramatically...I don't need a TV show to understand that.

  2. Stay away from Corky's and rendezvous...

Central BBQ, and the ribs at Blues City Cafe on Beale are very good.

Go to the zoo today! It's great...go see the Pandas.

After the zoo, visit Overton Square...try a brew at Boscos

But for real, the zoo is really cool.

  3. Cooper-Young had an ugly train track that ran over the street...as part of the areas clean up, the neighborhood association put a facade on the track, and used homes in the area as the design for the facade.

The yearly Cooper-Young fest draws almost 100k

They also had local artists paint the underpasses:

  4. I was there from the fall of 84 to the spring of 85.  Favorite spot was Silky O'Sullivan's, which I now understand is on Bealle and no longer in Overton.

Yep, Silky's got a great spot next to FedExForum...they make a killing there.91097848.jpg

Do they still serve the diver?

    Yes! 'one gallon of booze'

  5. Last time I was in Memphis I went on a wild ass ride in a pink Cadillac to some over hyped BBQ joint. Reckless driver would be an understatement and I'm from Miami. Saw Graceland though, it was one of the brighter blurs of light that we passed. I was happy to get out of there with my life.

Yeah, I tell people if you come to Memphis and eat at Corkys or Rendezvouz, walk up and down Beale, and tour Graceland...you haven't visited Memphis...you hit the tourist traps.

Cooper-Young, Overton Square, Memphis Zoo, Overton Park, Civil Rights Museum, Central BBQ, BBQ shop on Madison, Payne's BBQ, Germantown Commissary, Showboat BBQ, Interstate BBQ...

    That's where Memphians go.

  6. Overton Square is great.  Spent a lot of time there when I was at NAS Millington.  I know it's changed a lot, but Bealle Street was pretty rough back then.

You wouldn't believe what the Liberty Bowl, Cooper-Young, and Overton Square look like today...

Beale in the early 90s, late 80s, was a joke...with FedExForum there, it's become really nice.

But I do love Tampa...it's great...when I come in February I want to:

Hit the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks, get a Gyro, watch the sunset at aptly named Sunset Park...

    Tour the Yuengling Brewery...

    Busch Gardens...

    Visit Ft Desoto...

Tour the USF campus and watch Memphis v USF at the Sun Dome...

What a stupid thing to say...within a block of the Liberty Bowl is Cooper-Young and Overton Square....you have CBU and the Children's Museum on the Liberty Bowl property...It's very safe.

if I listened to folks like you, I would have never gotten out to explore places like New Orleans, St Louis, Atlanta, etc.

get out and explore folks...there's a whole world out there.

  8. Tampa does Cuban sandwiches and foot...basket...base...uh...soccer!

I've got family in Lutz, I always try and hit Pipos' while I'm there...I'll be down in Feb for the basketball game.

Next time your in town try and hit either Brocato's  or  Arco Iris (4001 N. Habana Ave. location).

Sweet! I'll give em a try next time i'm in town...

  9. Our new theme song

Memphis is impressive.  Of course, Lynch is one I wish we grabbed.  He's fluid, especially for 6'7".  We struggle with big, mobile QB.

Memphis's D looks very stout.  If White can't spread the ball around, we won't have ANY running game...and it'll be over by the 3rd quarter (or sooner).

Memphis is an 18.5 favorite for a reason.  I'm always hopeful, but not expecting much.

Will watch & pull for our Bulls as always...a win makes the UCF game 10X v if we head in 4-7.  Still matters, and we should be up for it...but it won't have the bowl life on it, which would stoke both teams.

I expect USF to be fighting for their bowl lives Sat...it will be a hard fought game, I don't trust the vegas line.

  10. what's up USF fans? I'm looking forward to a fun game next weekend. Weather looks to be mid 50s with rain all day. Memphis is jockeying for bowl position and a potential AAC championship at 7-3 (5-1). USF is clinging to hope for a bowl at 4-6 (3-3). This should be a fun football game, and last line had it Memphis -19

Game will be 3pm CT on ESPN-News.

  11. Bull94,

Quit comparing low-major regular season champs losing in their conference tourneys and getting shut out to USF and the AAC.

We are in a league where that probably would never happen.

    I'm not comparing them.

you guys stated that only teams that win during the regular season make ncaa's and losers go to NIT. I proved that notion wrong.

SMU and Cincy had very similar seasons. they split head to head.

SMU and UConn had identical conference records. SMU beat them twice.

SMU had a better record than Memphis and they split.

The top of the NIT tourney has arguably better low majors and just as good middle tier majors as the NCAA. It's a quality tournament.

No they don't have the prestige and No the top 25 teams are in the NCAAs but I'd rather win a quality national tournament over losing in the first round any day. Hell the NIT champ is usually good enough to have won 1 or 2 games in NCAAs easily.

BTW the SMU example isn't the only one .

Memphis and SMU were both 23-9 heading into post season...so our records were the same...we had a better RPI and 5 top-25 wins.

    Just for the record.

That said, SMU should have been in over NC State...better record, better RPI, wins over @UConn, UConn, Cincy, Memphis.

  12. Since when did we get a Memphis here? I like it - welcome. Always nice to have a voice of reason around here for when we go off the deep end  :guinness:

No prob...if I seemed upset about Coach Antigua, its because we're conference mates and I want USF to do well...hope I'm wrong about him.

I'm hoping Tulsa can keep Manning...they offered 1 million and pay bump for asst coaches. (Would be Tulsa biggest contract ever)

  13. Joseph Duarte @Joseph_Duarte

Sources: Houston is finalizing agreement to hire Kelvin Sampson as its men's basketball coach

    Mark Berman @MarkBermanFox26

Sources: Rockets ***'t Kelvin Sampson & University of Houston finalizing agreement 4Sampson to become next head men's basketball coach at UH

@CoachingChanges: Hearing Kelvin Sampson to Houston w his son to be named coach in waiting and also hiring Bilal Batley. Interesting hires

Thought you guys might like to know...Wake Forest is also after Danny Manning of Tulsa.
