much as I suspected, Memphis only played 7 guys tonight (really, only 6 as Clergeot barely got any PT)...I'm really glad Markel Crawford showed up, but man I hope Chad Rykhoek is back soon.

balanced effort for USF...looks like you guys have a lot of young talent, and that bodes well for next year.

I'm more disappointed no one pointed out the horrible grammar ...

I'm on my phone and message boards are not graded assignments...now, if you guys want to pay me for my posts, I'll start proofreading them.

You mean, that NBA Arena on Beale St?  No thanks, I prefer the true college basketball experience of an OCA.

I'd love to drop the Sun Dome on-campus...but there's not room for it.

I really liked my visit to the Sun Dome:

Wondering if you know how long the Sun Dome, on campus, has gone without anyone finding a sponsor?  Pretty sure they're still looking.

lol, did you just compare a 12 million dollar basketball arena from almost 40 years ago to a 100 million dollar OCS in 2017?

    OK then...

There are very few in this conversation who have said that they don't want an ocs .... brace yourself, fixing to get hostile .... You seem incredibly dense. It's been repeated many times that it's not about want but about need, along with financial wherewithal, right now  ...

you don't need a 66,000 seat NFL stadium with red seats and a pirate ship that costs over 1.2 million a year to rent.

it is all about your wants...as in USF just doesn't want to bite the bullet and build a true college stadium...they want to keep on being UAB.

I mean, sure there are 30,000 empty seats...but we have CUP HOLDERS!!!! [/rollseyes]

see you boys Sat at FedExForum.

Exactly ........ unless you don't have enough of either. Is any of this sinking in yet?

you'll never get any of it if you don't go ask...corporate naming rights and big name donors don't come to you, you have to go find them.

USF must first want an OCS...and from these conversations, that might not be the case.

Remember a few pages back when you said that neither of you were going to change the others mind?

Kinda the epitomy of doing the same thing over and over again expecting something to change...

I do wonder how much of our longing for an OCS doesn't come from the fact we've been told we can't have one. (you always want what people say you can't have)

we do have everything we need at the Liberty Bowl from a sweetheart lease, to close proximity to campus.

  7. Like the CSU President said...

    Quote

During the ground-breaking ceremonies at CSU, the chants of those who oppose the project could be heard from behind a distant fence. University President Frank acknowledged the controversy, saying the “criticisms caused us to check everything not twice, but three or four times, to sharpen our pencils, to reflect, to be careful, and I believe they made this project better in the end.”

after checking and re-checking do you really think all these professionals at UCF, FAU, CSU, etc would just say 'screw it' and build these things without any chance of breaking even?

    I don't...

  8. 7 minutes ago, Triple B said:

Screw that "small" fee stuff. If we build one now it should be 90% financed by the students ....

not true...corporate naming rights, and high dollar seats pay for a LOT.

TDECU paid 15 million over 10 years for the naming rights to Houston's stadium...plus luxury seat licenses and skybox licenses.

and over 1.2 million in rent per year you don't have to pay.

The truth that an OCS could very well be a $50-130 million dollar white elephant.

but give me an example of that...I can't think of one.

the FL schools like UCF and USF have a built in advantage with MASSIVE student populations...a small athletic facilities fee could pay for a big chunk of it.

I do like the idea of surveying season ticket holders, and getting the student body to vote on a football facility fee.

Who owns the land adjacent to the main campus, east of zach h curlin st?

wealthy home owners (those houses up and down Grandview are 7 figures)...NIMBYism would be a major issue on that side of campus, which is why Walker/Patterson was so **** perfect...Shirley Raines and RC Johnson killed that.

you have to understand that the "Park Ave Campus" was the old JFK Veterans hospital and when the VA moved downtown, that land was sold SUPER cheap to the UofM specifically so they would have land for athletic facilities...so the UofM has always maintained that if they build a stadium, that's where it will be.

one of those homes on Grandview is up for sale now...

USF football is bigger than your cup holder!

you can have BOTH...make sure the stadium has a high-end section for a few thousand 'big dogs' like Tulane.

    lower section seating...

Wow! You been to that many games at OCSs...I'm impressed.

You should go to UGA vs UF and the Texas vs OU games tell their fans what they are missing.

I go to watch MY team play...UGA vs UF does nothing for me, thanks...moreover, those team you list play plenty of games at their OCS.

I mean, Ray Jay isn't going to move away just because USF isn't playing there...if Florida wants to play USF home-home...just move that one game to Ray Jay, and schedule an FCS OCS home game to make up for it.

hell, I went to see my Tigers play little Ark State at their 30,000 seat on campus stadium and they have a better true college feel to it.

Who would have thought that the strongest OCS proponent on this board is a Memphis fan...

it's because we want one, and can't have one...

Question. Does U Memphis own the Liberty Bowl & is it located on your Campus?

nope, Memphis does not have room on campus...as I've stated we have the 'Park Ave Campus' where other athletic fields are, but it's still 1 mile from the main campus, while the Liberty Bowl is only 2 miles away.

so essentially Memphis would be paying 100 million to move to a stadium that's still a mile from campus.

Sure as **** seemes like you're saying because we are in the AAC we need an OCS here. I was just pointing out we've been in better conferences and played in Ray Jay at a time when you seemed it was ok for us to be playing there. Seems flawed to me but what do I know about USF, crowds at Ray Jay and what the school should put the money I donate to it every year towards?

ah, more hostility. you would be incorrect as I was simply pointing out your are now stable in the AAC as opposed to bouncing around from Indy to CUSA to the BE to the AAC.

the fact you buy season tickets or give money doesn't make you the sole arbiter of opinions when it comes to USF athletics, nor does it alter my opinion that USF would be better served by an on-campus stadium built on land USF already owns.

Where does the money come from?

Same as FAU and UCF. From corporate naming right, seat licenses, luxury box sales, and an increase in student fees. (from your base of over 45,000 students)

    and of course, ticket sales.

No one's is crying. I'm just pointing out a flaw in your logic that now that we have a shot at access bowls we need an OCS but when we had a shot at actual National Championships Ray Jay was fine and dandy.

There is no flaw as USF never consistently sold out Ray Jay...even in the 'mighty' BE...USF was just an upstart who went from D1 Indy to BCS conference in 5 years...that's the definition of upstart program...now you're in a position of stability in the AAC coming off back to back bowls.

Funny, I'd prefer the old Big East to the current conference. We were still that start up back then and by your logic Ray Jay was ok for us then but now that we are in a second tier conference it's not ok for us?

I've been to USF games where Ray Jay was electric; but you know we were a start up then compared to now so...

Crying over the Big East is like Memphis fans crying over the Metro Conference...pointless as those days are long gone.
