  1. Having been recruited in baseball out of high school...USF has a terrible baseball reputation in the state and schools will steer players towards Juco ranks before sending them to USF because they can leave for the pros sooner.

For those who don't know what is being referenced. Go to a Juco, get your AA and you can turn pro in 2 years. Go to a 4 year college, you can't turn pro until after your junior year.

False. Juco players are eligible after their first year as well.

Ok, I didn't know that ... sorry for the bad info ... But the part of those who chose a 4 year school having to wait 3 years is true. So the correction further makes the Juco even more attractive. Baseball is weird in the there is so much incentive not to get a 4 year degree (for those talented enough to have pro aspirations.)

And yet every other school in the state has been able to largely overcome this, besides USF (and FAMU but they suck at everything).

But let's not get it confused, the best players out there are not choosing Juco over playing for a solid D1 program. It's mainly the fringe guys that choose to play at a Chipola JC or Polk State rather than go somewhere out of state and pay out of state tuition to play at some crummy program. Or the guys that were drafted in high school, want to improve their draft stock and don't want to wait 3 years.

A friend from high school was going to play JC ball in florida until Rice scooped him up. He played 4 years, got his degree and was drafted in The 10th round last year. Another went to Polk State instead of going out of state. He pitches for Bethune-Cookman now. It obviously depends on the kids situation, however. A lot of guys start out D1 and then transfer out after a year. There are a lot of factors at play. Go look at a solid juco or D2 program roster and look at "previous school" and chances are there are about a half dozen that came from top tier programs.

  3. Well, this FGCU team has now achieved more than any USF team ever.

True and they done it with less talent then this season's USF team. How do they do it?

They also did it with less talent than this seasons UNC, Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Butler teams. What's your point? It's March Madness.

  4. Don't really agree with that pecking order. It pretty much ebbs and flows after you get past the big 3(besides USF, FAMU who seem to be stuck). UNF has been d1 for a couple years and hasn't made a D1 tournament yet. Not sure why you put Webber in there either. Assume it's a joke.

This year we may actually be better than Stetson, UNF and Jacksonville. It's a down year for UF as well. Miami isn't their usual selves either.

Eckerd baseball is garbage. St leo is mediocre. Tampa and Florida Southern are top tier d2 programs.

I'm on my phone so excuse any mistakes or caveman grammar.

  5. Just making sure people realize that family weekend is nothing to do with alumni and their families .... it is a weekend for parents of current students to come to campus and spend a weekend with their student.

It appeals to traditional aged freshmen students who are not from the Tampa Bay area. IE - your family from out of state comes and checks up on you.

The game is picked (in the past at least) based on the date and not the opponent. They want something from late September to mid October, so that the kids who are home sick or slacking off have a chance for their families to make a positive impact on their academics.

Oh I know that. But when I was at USF it was never a big deal. My brother is a current USF student and hasn't even heard of it. My sister at UCF knows all about hers because they send out tons of mailings on it.

This. I'm graduating in May and you never hear of it in the general student conversations. My parents never had much use for it because they came to most games anyways, but friends at other schools would always post pictures online and talk about it. I've heard some pretty interesting stories involving Parents Weekend and Kens Tavern up in Tallahassee the night before an FSU game. I think it plays into some of the commuter school situation...like you said, it's for parents of kids who are likely from outside of the Bay area. Welp, that probably eliminates half of the student body right there.

  6. I get my ADHD honestly...by the way its got nothing to doooo with IQ..It thook them till I was 67 to get it diagnosed....miss spelling intended

There are two sides to that coin...

SattyBull there is a great web site ADHD and loving it....Spelling just doesn't work for me never has never will....My thought process at times is SO FAST and conclusion come so quickly I can change word order in sentences....When I start to type, my mind is already on the next few words....

My biggest wonder is what heights I would have reached had it been diagnosed and treated early...

By the way took and passed my P.E. first try .1976 . the four hour morning session I finished in 2 1/2 hours...the after noon session the same.2 1/2 hours...First one out...Mummers in the room...He either aced it or failed it...

By the way founding member of Engineering Honor Society The Bent....At USF....

So please Give some people slack some spelling and grammer......I know who I am and what I am...But there might be others with ADHD that are not so Lucky... Proud gradute of USF Engineering...put my self against anyone including HARVERD....Use your gifts wisely...positively...

    Go Bulls

    ...

Not sure why I was responded to...I was making a joke in response to Greg that this is USF and not Harvard because HE was the one who pointed it out. My best friend has ADHD, is dyslexic but is now an Orlando Firefighter. The kid cant spell for **** and misreads things all the time, and I couldnt really care less.

    No harm meant.

  7. Oh yeah, I know they won't fire him right now... Would make a bad situation much worse.

I have lost faith in Prado but I really hope the boys can turn things around. I have a couple friends on the team and hope they can at least go out there and have a good showing themselves. This is the hard thing with college sports. When you aren't a fan of a coach, you almost find yourself rooting against 18,19, 20 year olds. Unfortunate catch 22.

  8. And this isnt just the case of "man, they're getting beat by amazing teams. Not much they can do." the brand of baseball they're playing is atrocious.

Game 1 vs Louisville: 5 errors, 5 walks, 3 hit batsmen, 3 wild pitches

Game 3 vs Indiana: 6 walks, 5 wild pitches, 5 hit batsmen

Game 4 vs FSU: 11 walks, 5 wild pitches, 5 hit batsmen, And FSU pulled their starters about halfway through.

Game 5 vs FSU: 6 walks, 2 wild pitches, 3 hit batsmen, 2 errors.

Game 6 vs FSU: 5 walks, 1 wild pitch...and look at that, we only lost by 3.

It's amazing what playing fundamentally sound baseball can do for your chances of winning, no matter who you play.

In those same 5 losses, here are the combined stats of the other teams,

13 walks, 4 wild pitches, 1 hit batsmen, 5 errors.

  9. Seriously? Already?

Don't get me wrong. I don't think he's done that great of a job and didn't deserve his last extension.

But what were you expecting when 4 of our first 6 games were against ranked teams, 3 games on the road and 3 neutral site games?

Well, I was expecting it, but I was hoping they would not be absolutely embarassed in all but one of the losses so far.

Oh, and those neutral site games were 45 minutes from campus. The other teams were from 1,000 miles away. Don't understand that excuse.
