  1.

Daniels figures to compete with Scott Tolzien for the No. 3 quarterback spot. Given the increasing popularity of the read-option among NFL teams, he could also have value as a practice-squad quarterback.

In 2013, the 49ers will face mobile quarterbacks in the Redskins’ Robert Griffin III, Carolina’s Cam Newton and Wilson, who they’ll face twice."

Very true. Hadn't even thought about it, but he could really have a solid career as a practice squad player.

  2. Not bad for a "crumby baseball team".

My goodness. Ive seen people refer to me by saying this over and over. I said crummy baseball PROGRAM. Because it is a crummy baseball program. No NCAA appearance in 11 years. That's pretty crappy, folks. USF has had plenty of GOOD (emphasis on good) teams in those 11 years, but none in the NCAAs.

Think of it this way: if you weren't a USF fan, how would you view the baseball PROGRAM at the university of South Florida? Especially when compared to the rest of the teams in the state of Florida. Yeah, it's not good.

  3. This the new one they just built?

Looks like an elaborate smoking area. Which led to a thought - does USF allow smoking anymore? My campus up here just went completely non-smoking. If you want to smoke, you have to step off-campus (granted, it's a MUCH smaller area than USF)

There are a handful of designated smoking areas around campus. Very nice change, in my opinion. Whenever you used to walk past the library you would always get somebody's smoke blown in your face. Thats no longer the case.

  4. gators are too good

Gators suck this year they just got to .500 they SUCK but they beat us.
They did start off pretty poorly. However, they don't suck AT ALL. They're 12-4 since March 29th. In that time they have:

Taken 2 out of 3 from Ole Miss (18 in RPI)

    Beat UCF

Took 1 out of 3 at Miss St (10 in RPI and one of the hardest places to play)

Beat Florida State in Tally (7th in RPI)

Swept South Carolina (16th in RPI)

    Beat FGCU (55th in RPI)

Took 2 out of 3 at Missouri

Overall, theyre 12-12 against the top 50, so 24 of their 42 games have been against top 50 teams. They're 5-5 against teams 51-100. So, 34 out of their 42 games are vs the top 100. They haven't played a single game against a team with an RPI worse than 200! Although that will change when they host FAMU after a big series AT #2 LSU and just before playing host to #29 FAU and #33 Auburn.

Their starting line up is almost entirely Freshman and Sophomores, and they lost their best pitcher for the season (Whitson).

USF is 3-10 against the top 100. Only 13 of our 41 games have been against the top 100. In fact, USF has played almost as many games against teams with a ranking above 200 than in the top 100 (12 and USF is 11-1 in those matchups). If USF had UFs schedule they MAY have 10 wins at this point. Although, who knows since they split a midweek series with the worst baseball team in ACC history(Boston College, currently 6-33 and 0-20 in the ACC).

  5. What will happen once all the eggs are in two baskets and as our population continues to swell as Tallahassee keeps promising it will and we only have two schools the state cares about and therefore are funded adequately?

How will we accomplish Scott's goal of producing more STEM graduates? Via UF's new online BS degrees? Will Poly get preeminent status?

Nevermind, Poly will be given to UF in order to ensure their status.

What a f****ing joke this state and it's politics are.

Onlline Degree ...University of Phoenix...what a way to degrade your school...If I was a Gator I'd be calling and saying WTF.

Thank god USF doesn't let people use that **** inter webs to degrade our school!

My old roommate moved back to NY and finished his last 2 semesters online (summer/fall).

  6. Baseball America came out with their "stock report" for this week. Here's what they had to say about the Big East.

    Big East (3 bids)

    SAFELY IN: Louisville

ON THE BUBBLE (IN): Notre Dame, Pittsburgh

ON THE BUBBLE (OUT): Seton Hall

One change from last week: Pittsburgh replaces Seton Hall in our field. The Pirates fell 14 spots to No. 50 in the RPI after going 3-1 against Iona and Georgetown, and their their RPI figures to continue to slide in the next two weeks with nine straight games against teams outside the top 200. A 7-5 conference record and a 1-5 mark against the top 50 don’t help SHU’s case.

Pitt remains behind the Pirates in the RPI (No. 59), and its schedule also includes RPI-draining sets against Cincinnati, Georgetown and Villanova. But it also finishes at Louisville, which should help. And the Pirates are in better shape in the conference standings (second place at 9-3), with an excellent sweep of Notre Dame under their belts.

The Irish remain in our field for the reasons stated last week: a strong nonconference schedule, a strong RPI (No. 28), and our expectation that they will finish strong and dramatically improve their 4-8 conference record.

First-place South Florida is red-hot, with wins in each of their last 12 games, but they remain mired at No. 96 in the RPI, which torpedoes their case.

    http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/college-stock-report-week-10/

A win against UF tonight would help that RPI, but they'd likely still need to win the tourney.

  7. Bulls RPI is 93rd with 14 losses in the 165th hardest schedule, Florida RPI is 18th with 19 losses in the hardest schedule in the country. Lets keep expectations down. Remember we got swept by #7 FSU.

They upset a way better UF squad last year. Midweek college baseball = upsets.

Edited to add...for example, Notre Dame is getting beat 15-3 by Toledo right now. 14-24 Toledo (who USF should have swept).

  8. And The Streak lives on. Satty did you get a healthy serving of that crow?

See my post from a month ago.

Posted by SattyBull on 24 March 2013 - 10:31 PM in South Florida Bulls Athletics Main Board

They should start to rack up the wins. The Big East sucks and we don't have to play Louisville. Pitt and Notre Dame will be tough, though. We get 3 guaranteed wins against Alcorn St in a few weeks. Even the midweek Florida teams that we are playing are having down years (UF, Stetson, BCU, UCF...everyone other than FGCU pretty much).

They proved me wrong against Pitt but I expected them to perform well in the Big East. 12 wins in a row? Of course not. So I will eat crow about that I suppose.

  9. Most teams, negotiating with a top-five-round pick, will include a clause that will pay for reasonable costs of tuition so that an athlete can work toward a college degree during or after his playing career.

And it's probably a better deal than the NCAA's awful scholarship restrictions.

The new MLB CBA is messing around with the draft as well. The slotting system throws an interesting twist in things.

  10. Problem there charsibb is that some people can only afford those $80 upper bowl season tickets. If you offer half season tickets I think you get more biters who weren't going at all now willing to drop $40 on 1/2 a schedule for upper deck seating and uppder deck seaters making their way to the lower bowl. This would also be a nice to way introduce new/recent alumni to season ticket options (maybe even offer 1/2 the priority points).

Food and drink specials would also help. For some, buying tickets is the easy part. It's the $14 parking, $7.50 beers, $8 soda, and $5 hot dogs that kill them. Maybe offer some family nights where you have hot dog & a soda specials or something. Louisville just had $1 beers at their stadium for the spring game.

I'll tell you something that is really missing in Tampa. Good mass transit options to get to sporting events (in particular Raymond James Stadium). There needs to be an alternative to parking a car at a game that costs less, and allows those who don't like to drive in game day traffic an opportunity to attend our games.

I'm not talking about the Bull runner either, which provides a nice service for our students.

I grew up about 45 miles north of whatever they call the Dolphins and Canes stadium these days. I had 3 viable options to get to that stadium. 1. I could drive all the way and pay to park. 2. I could drive most of the way and pull into a bus park and ride lot a few miles from the stadium and pay $5 that covered parking and a ride right up to the stadium and back (per person). 3. I could catch the train in my hometown (call Tri-Rail), which took me to the bus lot mentioned in #2, the train and bus combo cost about $8 to $10 a person.

For Bucs and USF games, there needs to be viable mass transit park and ride the bus options for fans from several locations in Tampa and at least one in Pinellas. One location needs to be near USF (maybe right on the campus, even for Bucs games), one option needs to come from Brandon, and at least one from Pinellas.

I am calling out HART (and the Pinellas country version of HART). This can be a money maker for them and provide a valuable service to many bay area residents.

I flew up to Philly for the Temple game this year. My buddy lives in center city Philly and we took the 15 minute train ride to the stadium which was nice. However, I talked to some students up there and they said a lot of students don't utilize it on game days like they should (as evidenced by their couple thousand seat student section).

There are ways for USF students to get there now. If they want to go, they go. The rest are either oblivious or simply don't care.

Edited to add... Tampa does need mass transit. But I don't think it would impact USF football attendance at this point in time, at least.
