Comment: This is definitely a new look for Oregon, and it may work out with Taggart. Finances played a bigger role in this search than many anticipated, as Taggart will actually make slightly less money ($3.3 million per year) than Jeff Brohm will at Purdue. Oregon is betting that it hired a future superstar with a higher ceiling than more expensive and established candidates like Dan Mullen. Taggart has recruited well everywhere he’s been, which is key for a job like Oregon.

Can they? Yes. Phil Knight was willing to put up 10 million / yr for the right head coach so I imagine similarly money is no object for crucial staff. Will they? Who knows. Brady Hoke was set to make $700,000 / yr as DC so obviously we would pay Strong more than that. The X factor is Oregon booster pockets and Strong's buyout agreement with the horns.

I really don't think they can. Frost was the highest paid assistant in there history and made $755k, you think they can more than double that?

He's not actively pushing strong FWIW,  He's merely expressed that he would be interested in having Strong on staff if he's willing.  This isn't some kind of bidding war for Strong.....

This. I don't think people should be too pissed at Taggart. He knows he needs a good DC and one of the best in the country is currently unemployed, he'd be an idiot to not express interest and reach out. Let's not assume he's putting down USF or anything.

This seems like agent speak to me.. Why would strong go be a D-coordinator at Oregon? He's a Florida recruiter that had trouble recruiting in Texas. Why would it be any easier to do it at Oregon? I think that this is all rangling by Strong's agent to get more money out of USF.

Um.... He did not have trouble recruiting at Texas, best class in the Big 12 in 2015 and 2016. This would be a great move for Strong, worries me quite a bit.

I think what we really want is Ohio to beat W. Michigan and Navy to beat Temple and get the invite to the Cotton Bowl...that would open up the armed forces bowl for Houston who would prolly get a 5-7 N Texas team that snuck in on its APR, Temple would get the ACC matchup in the armed forces bowl and we would go to bham to play a not Vanderbilt SEC team.

I haven't paid much attention, but is that a legitimate scenario? Seems unlikely we get a cotton bowl bid if Navy wins the conference, or in any case.
