Q earned himself a larger role in the offense today IMO. He was the only spark in the offense and made the best throw of the day. I think he'll still be used at other positions than QB but when he does get under center I think we'll see more passes. I think don't think they move away from Murray after 1 game but Q should be heavily featured.

Annnd Q drops an absolutes dime on that deep ball

Not real familiar with how some parts of recruiting goes but just because he visited does that mean he definitely had a commitable offer from them? You'd assume so but still ......
They were back burnering him. Bringing him in for a visit to hopefully have him as a fall black if they missed on a couple guys. As for walking on, his education is probably paid for for by academically scholly. He was a take for Navy and their academic requirements are stupid high

I blame Trestman's nfl bias. He's scared to fully commit to a guy that doesn't have a traditional NFL skill set. Also let him throw the **** ball defense was keying the run while he was in and somebody would have been open in the red zone because of it

Trestman and/or the OC are morons for taking Q out when he was moving the ball.
He was open over the middle on that pass that was broken up too

Aaaannnnnd they go away from Q and stall in the red zone.
*ahem*

Meh. I think that guy is a primadona
He's one of the best run blocking TEs in the game and Wilcox struggles with run blocking. Even if it's not a take the rookie under your wing type thing there would be nobody better for him to watch and learn from.

I mean it'd be nice if he went higher than 7th rd for various reasons, but if he lands in SF that's a great spot for him. Shanahan's offense does a great job of putting personnel into positions to succeed and his increased role along the line this season should help him get on the field in reprieve situations. The combine should highlight his athleticism to get him drafted and if he goes to SF he becomes a better player that should help with longevity and is an injury away from being featured in an offense that values his position.
Learning from Kittle wouldn't hurt either, epically when it comes to run blocking

He was the exact same player in 2019 that he was in 2018. His production dropped off at the same rate as the entire rest of our passing game. You can ***** about the whole offense sucking, but saying we didn't "showcase" Wilcox is just cherry picking what you'd like to complain about.
Percent of Passing Yards and TDs per year
Here's Wilcox's portion of the offense the past two years.
2018 - 540 receiving yards out of 3173, 17% of the total and 2 TD receptions out of 17 for the offense, 12% of the total
2019 - 350 out of 2035, 17% and 5 TDs out of 18, 28% of the total
You could even make the argument Wilcox was better this season. Caught more TD passes AND took on a bigger blocking role in the running game.
It's also ignores that he had to stay in to the block more due to our awful OL play.

Also it's not apples to apples as an OC should be watching way more tape than the HC. Especially since it appears CJS is using the CEO heads coach approach.

Losing Edmunds to USCe and Cutting ties with Quez Bell and him going to Cinci stings a lot but it's a transition class it's always going to be tough. I'm definitely interested to see what he can do with a full cycle to recruit.

Hope the other QBs invest in some steel plated boots. #NeverForget

I think Bell is lucky to get another shot. If some one said I’ll give you five years of pay, but will make you look epically incompetent to the point where you may not get another decent opportunity in the industry, do you take it?
I'd do it for CCS's pay and guarantees

And that's a fair comparison. But, there is literally no comparison as an actual coach. CJS has the edge in Twitter and press conferences. Everything else isn't even a discussion no matter how much you hate xCCS.
Yup, anyone talking about coaching right now just looks foolish. But for what he can prove at this moment CJS has been impressive. If he keeps Quez Bell in the boat on signing day he would be about as good as he could be so far.
-
People keep bringing up CCS because CJS has been the polar opposite in every way he's capable of showing at this point. Community involvement, accessibility, enthusiasm, and some real positive signs for recruiting in the his transition class are night and day from CCS. It's such a night and day difference that it has people excited. If CJS was taking over for a coach that had a personality similar to his the need to contrast wouldn't be so strong for most people.

At the very least it's a signal the administration is giving this staff time. Realistically we aren't fending off P5 schools if they want our coordinators so this is basically the school saying "we're giving you time to turn this around and we want stability".

It's a much needed change after the toxicity we had before.

Dabo and Saban both in Lakeland this week at Lakeland Christian and Lakeland High School....CJS better get to Polk quick!!
He should but not because of that. Those two basically recruit another dimension compared to USF. I hope he expands that inside out strategy to include Manatee and Polk county.

Our best returning defensive player from last year was hurt (Sawtelle), then Sails and Macon transfer in and are immediately our best players. Hampton had a lot of hype, but an awful season. Reeves / Livingstone didnt get pressure. Our other linebackers looked like small underclassmen.
We need to recruit and develop better. Our defense doesnt seem to have any talent returning. The only positive is the young linebackers did improve slightly as the season progressed. xDC BJM did NOT live up to expectations, but at least he was better than the rest of the staff imo
This is the heart of our issues and is the #1 priority for CJS and company to fix
