Baseball's Derek Bell Arrested Posted April 20, 2006 at 10:20 AM By VALERIE KALFRIN vkalfrin@tampatrib.com TAMPA - Derek Bell, the former outfielder who once played for the New York Mets and Houston Astros, is facing a felony cocaine possession charge in Tampa, public records show. Tampa police arrested Bell, 37, of Wesley Chapel about 3:17 a.m. Thursday at North 19th Street and East Shadowlawn Avenue, jail records show. The details of the arrest were not immediately available. In addition to the cocaine charge, Bell also is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Orient Road Jail on $2,500 bail. According to BaseballLibrary.com, Bell was a key member of the Houston team that won three consecutive National League Central titles in the late 1990’s. Prior to playing for Houston, he earned a World Series ring with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992. Bell also played for the San Diego Padres, the Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
