1. I agree with your philosophy re: mediocrity. Having said that, we are so bad we can't even see the bottom of mediocre's ass.

If that is your honest assessment of the team we have right now, there's really no need to further this conversation... Have a nice day.

Nice Apologist's perspective.  Your position of indignation is well stated, congratulations.

While you are packing up your ball and jacks and taking them home, I'd look at next semester's curriculum and perhaps pencil in a couple of logic or debate courses amongst the many PE courses on your plate, to enhance your strategic options  in discourse.  That, or maybe Mrs. Blackwell might be able to provide some tutoring, depending on what you are wearing, of course.

On the other hand, I continue to learn, perhaps you can enlighten me of what you see is our great strides towards mediocrity? The Louisville game? The watershed Cincinnati win?  The depth of bench scoring?  I welcome healthy facts to support your opinions.

    Good luck.

  2. Not long ago, I was reading from some of the pundits on here that Mattis was a) a legitimate 5 tool Big East recruit and B) he was going to play in the pros.  Clearly, the guy has phenomenal effort, but is overmatched physically at his size and weight in the front line versus Big East'ers. Also, obviously, his hands and shooting skills need some work, but I do love the guy's intensity, as seen by his blocked shots total.  Hard to see this guy playing in the pros, except maybe if it's as a defensive end or linebacker if he adds a ton of weight  to his frame, given his aggressive nature.  Having said that, 70+ turnovers is hard to believe......

  3. I think 90% of all recruiting visits are 8 or 9s.

It seems like we have a outside shot at this kid, but I think Clemson is where he'll land. He's talked a lot about them lately.

Further, he stated the week before the visit that he probably wasn't going to take his visit to USF. What that tells me, is he's probably got his mind settled on one of the schools in his final 2 visits. LSU and Clemson (as mentioned by Lurkle)

Finally, when asked by Rivals about his chances of going to USF he said "they're on my list"

Ya never know maybe we wowed him more than LSU or Clemson will, but I'd put this kid down as an outside shot.

I don't think we pay as well as LSU or Clemson, a very long shot for us indeed.

  4. Tampajo i think it is more than 95% of our points coming from our starters.

Anybody who has followed Bulls hoops from way back realizes that any significant amount of bench points have been a rare luxury...

Trip where are those 13 scholarships you are so arrogant o bring up and say dont let the facts get int he way.

Anybody who follows and truly cares about USF basketball, at this point in time, shouldn't have a problem spitting out the 13 ....

Ummmmmmmmmm, bad is bad and good is good, but the norm is just the norm.  the fact that we have no bench scoring IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. when we accept mediocrity, it's over.  2 schools of thought on basketball: 1. recruit 5 star gems and win on pure talent . 2. if you can't do 1, recruit LOTS OF DEPTH (because it's lots easier to recruit a bunch of 2 star guys than 1 or 2 5-star guys), press like hell with pressure defense (e.g. Nolan Richardson's "40 minutes of hell", UAB's current mantra), play a motion offense, and wear the other guys out.

Me, I know of no other theory to win in basketball.  I'm from Indiana, saw all the average Bobby Knight (talent wise) teams always make the NCAAs, and although I didn't particularly care for the way the guy treated his players, they grew up to be solid citizens and played good team ball. Mac's problem is DEPTH. pure and simple - to turn your head and say that bench points are a "rare luxury" is to miss the whole point of the problem.  Mac, though a decent game coach, is killed by Mac the talent scout, recruiter and roster GM.  HE CANNOT DO THIS JOB, stop making excuses for him.

If one were to look honestly at the person, and not just his role as coach, you'd agree, or barring any occasional watershed win, like Cincinnati, this guy has given you NOTHING to hang  your hat on for long-term success.  You tell me, how many programs in the USA use the Statue of Liberty recruiting technique?? Give us your transfers, late declinations, ACL injuries, etc. we'll take them all and promise them meaningful minutes!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ridiculous.

Without getting too philosophical here and as much as some of you don't want to acknowledge it, you have to pass through mediocre on your way to being a good team/program. Nobody is accepting mediocrity as a finished product but I realize that saying we do makes it much easier to blast away at us.

What I'm looking for is improvement  on a year to year basis (along with positives for the future) and that started with our first season in the BE. To try and lump the previous three years together in one pot is laughable and I doubt Woolard looks at it that way, either.

As most of our side have said, we're not sure Mac is the one to take us to the next level but we're not sure yet he's not the one either. Your opinion is he definitely isn't the one.... we disagree.

I agree with your philosophy re: mediocrity. Having said that, we are so bad we can't even see the bottom of mediocre's ass.  I ask you, do we not have a record in the bottom 10% of college basketball for Mac's regime. Or, I'll even give you a "do over" on the first 2 years, how about last year? 1-15 IN THE CONFERENCE??  Again, tell me one reason to like anything about Mac's regime - here are my choices: 1. Blind optimism 2. "discipline", disguised as bad employee management skills (anyone can say "no" or yell as his/her employees) 3. We can't afford anything else.  Honest to god, what are you people seeing that tells you there's any hope? 1, 2 or 3?  do  you have #4??

You Apologists need to arm yourselves with something other than "warm and fuzzies"....yes, we do disagree.

  6. The fact is we finally have some depth and that is totally due to Mac.

We will have depth when most everybody is healthy. If Richardson and Williams are both still out Wednesday, it could get real ugly. Capko coming back will help out the guard rotation but inside could be a disaster if Kentrell gets in foul trouble.

............"We will have depth when everyone is healthy"...let me write that one down, hey, how about......"We will win more games when we score more than the other team?".......

  7. Came from Melbourne and saw the game yesterday. Exciting brand of basketball. We're very fast and we can shoot. We need a little more muscle inside to help Kentrell but Mattis and Buckley need lots of minutes for us to suceed. Mac knows what he's doing and his players love him. Verdejo will be back in the starting lineup because he knows this is his best shot.

The fact is we finally have some depth and that is totally due to Mac.

We have talent and as the chemistry improves so will the scores.

We're definitely in the right direction and have things lined up for improvement as this season progresses and for the following years.

Hey, thanks for driving over from the east part of the state and giving us your game summary, Mr. Bianchi.  I must have missed your report on the Louisville game, how did you see that one shake out?

  8. (

disclaimer... i know exactly what those Mac haters are going to say about my previous post... 75% of our games?  you are insane... blah blah...

I said if we get 17 assist out of our PG each game (which is a big assumption, and probably not very likely), we would win 75%... so lets watch and see... if we get 17 assists out of Howard and Capko, (or howard and bozeman), lets see if we win.  If we get only 6 assists... lets see if we win... not as likely.

    )

Hey, I"m with you, I was just going to say if we get 95 points from our starters, we have a chance of winning 75% of our remaining games.

I'M ON BOARD, GO MAC!!! WHO'S WORKING ON THAT CONTRACT EXTENSION???

  9. I can't see Voss playing DB next year unless we do get injuries.  We have decent depth there THIS year.  I can see him playing there in 2008 or later.

Hopefully we'll land even more QB talent so we can have as much depth as we have at RB finally.

Agreed. Other than RB, I think safety play was one of our lower points.  In particular, run support was lacking. With 2 lock-down corners, seems we should/could have cheated better on run support, but it wasn't happening. Im not sure Verpaele will ever make it, I didn't notice Williamson playing as well as he did last year, or Murphy as well as he did in the spring, only playmakers I saw were some big hits from Burnett, who's leaving and McRoberts defending well, although he seems like a CB playing as a safety.

We've heard about Nate Allen, who lost his RS, I believe, but didn't see appreciable time.  I say if Voss is a beast, and I saw him play one game and it seems like he could cleanup centerfield for us, we should plug him in at safety and not wait.  Our scheduling is at our advantage this year, not next, so we should use all our bullets now, if possible, would be my vote.  Hard to think there will be a year where Louisville will go thru so much again, let's try to take advantage of it.

  10. since you've already decided not to follow my request, i might as well get something out of this....can u explain the mrs blackwell thing to me?

if you're going to make jokes, i'd at least like to understand what they mean.

Mr Blackwell has been a fashion critic for decades ....

    http://fashion.about.com/od/bestworstdressedlists/a/worstdressed06.htm

so someone who knows the name(so well that they take for granted that everyone knows who it is) of a REAL fashion critic is making fun of ME........got it.

    Mrs. Blackwell,

Mr. Blackwell is an effeminate caricature of a "man" who inanely prods the world with his asinine listing of "worst dressed" individuals.  By virtue of his persona, he becomes a lightning rod for criticism, which he seems to revel in or just be too full of himself, or dim witted to have it fully register.

Somehow I see a correlation here........

  11. My take on the game.

1.) Cinci i is awful, might be worse then that pathetic Wake Forest team we beat.

2.) Starting five looks like they have some talent, but they still look like a deer in headlights when it comes to running a fluid offense.

3.)  Mac yells at his players to much and pouts like a two year old.

4.)  This might be the weakest Big East in years.

5.)  Attendance can't get any worse.  Was talking to Herman and told him to look around at the stands and take notice.  "This is what they call rock bottom."  There couldn't have been more the 2k people there.  Judy Genshaft (who was in the crowd) must have taken notice.  It was interesting to see here there and in the stands watching the whole game from start to finish.  Wondering if Mac saw her in the crowd.

-- call me when we beat a decent team.  If we can beat a very good west virginia team, my opinion might mover more towards letting him coach out the rest of the season.

LOL It doesnt matter if we win or lose some will slam RMC either way. By the way that hapless Wake Forest team beat MIami in Miami. Not a big deal but i find it funny how when we beat anyone they are hapless and when we lose to someone is horrible and the end of the world.

grind that axe, baby, grind that axe.

  12. P.S. Mama Bull,

I just reread that thread and clearly, could see it was Mrs. Blackwell coming inside from his latest bake sale long enough to throw some mud on your good man.  If I had a nickel for every time Mrs. Blackwell took both hands out of his coach's pants long enough to pen out some vitriolic lunacy about USF's logo, uniform colors or the style of underwear the 50 year old guy sitting in front of him that gets him so excited at home games, I'd not only subscribe to this fine, free, free for all site, but I'd also subscribe to EVERY premium service, buy a round of freebies for the posters herein, AND set up the house at the opener versus Elon with courvoisier's finest.

Like my dad used to say, "consider the source" and in this case, the "sources".  If some nutswinger feels so impassioned about that tool Deumig as to denegrade your good man, I can only thank science and man rules that preclude two such "pals" from breeding further progeny.

Let me reiterate.   WELCOME 2007!  I like your posting style, same for hubby's and can only see this board being a better place by both of you reengaging for 2007.  Should Mrs. Blackwell's garter snap as his blood pressure exceeds 200 if he reads and deciphers my prose, and he becomes enraged, so be it. If he becomes engorged, maybe he and Deumig can take care of each other.....

Ho Ho Ho!! Back to the fold you should go!!!!

wow, that's some serious hatred you got going there.

do yourself a favor, when you see my name, dont read it. problem solved.

    carry on...

Don't give yourself so much credit, Mrs. Blackwell, but do appreciate the rhetoric.  Give your best to Deumig tomorrow, by then, he may realize Spiller isn't going to UF.....

  13. Funny how the Duemig defenders ran off a USF fan from this site, yet Duemig ripped USF this season because Leavitt was unhappy with the media. It just goes to show that many fans are still clueless about Duemig.

anybody that defends Deumig needs to stop posting on this site. Only bandwagon buc fans tune him in.

No one defended Duemig in the posts - people were critical of Howie...

(including me - a mistake I regret and apologize for)

HowieP is doing a good job representing USF over there.  Too bad that the number of ignorant jerkoffs got so high on this board that he stopped participating here.

Even though Howie has stopped posting on the BullsPen, don't for one moment think he isn't pushing for USF all the way.  In fact, it might be one of the best things that happened, because his posting on the other team boards keeps focus on USF.

BTW, Mike, I do appreciate your comments regarding Howie very much.

    Signed his better half, ME

Howie's earned the praise, MamaP.  Tell him we miss him around here!

    Amen Mike!!

For those that are interested... here is the thread in question:

  14. I'm sort of new here, but you are saying that some jackass took exception to one of our loyal souls debating that tool Deumig ("CJ Spiller has enrolled at UF this week..."), and caused that loyal soul has moved on anywhere??  Given the level of censorship found currently, I'm amazed such fur flying could get to that level, to be honest.

I'd advocate to old Howie, mama, that 2007 is a new year, he should strap on a new set, piss on whatever jackass bedeviled him, and start his posting back here where he really belongs.  Life's short, tell him to come back with some love, and use his time on the WVU board when he's got an extra couch he needs to get torched.......these are exciting times for USF, it's damned time to get all good hands back on deck!!

  15. Ford is a great talent, but the other guys are all pretty good too.   They will all battle to see who gets to start.   No one is an automatic starter.  Better talent tends to raise everyone's performance.

.....speaking of smoking dope, which games were you watching this year? Our running game was abysmal.

  16. Yes, maam, I got it, having said that the running back's performance this year was insulting to me, which is what I was trying to convey. To you, maybe it was nirvana, to me, putrid.  Thems the facts as I see them, Francis.

Do appreciate the ingles lesson today, though.  My apologies that your skirt got ruffled.

You took the short bus to school, didn't you?  All he's saying is that it isn't necessary to attack a group of kids to make your point.  It is both tasteless and rude to attack college kids in the manner you did.  Your responses to Sanjay after that are even worse.  Chill out.

You guys should all be wives, quit nagging style points and grow up.  Read the message, get the message and keep your Hemingwayan perspectives to yourself, because the running game sucked, that's a FACT, and your worn-out friday afternoon attempts to elevate your ****** week by pissing on my mojito just isn't working, Rosie.....
