  1. Do you guys get Dan Silieo over there in the Tampa Bay area ?  He is an ex-Miami player and pretty full of himself but not bad listening too.  He doesn't cover the Bulls much but he thinks they are a pretty good team.

The only guy who's a bigger tool than Deumig in the tampa market is Sileo.  He's got two topics, 1. Canes 2. Transitioning all other topics into something somewhat relevant to the Canes.  He also doesnt' think the bulls are worth a ****, see numerous earlier strings re: his website polls, etc.

    Unlistenable.

Tampajo, you obviously don't know what you're talking about. He predicted that USF would be BE champs in 2007 just this very morning. I don't get you guys who listen to what you want to hear. I agree, Tampajo, that he is a MIAMI blowhard but he gives many other teams their due props in the state of florida. Listen to the whole show or at least more that one and you'll see what i'm talking about.

I appreciate the input, compadre, but you apparently were on spring break when he had his whole "usf is stuffing the ballot box" drama re: his "best team in florida" poll on his website, whining like al gore when someone finally told him he hadn't discovered the internet.   I stand firmly by my remarks that he's 1. a tool 2. only talks about canes and 3. only segues other topics to cane topics.  Frankly, I welcome the Mike Peppers of the world to give local talk it's due, because this POS wakes me up every morning, only because I fall asleep listening to WDAE programming at night....sorry, 4th topic for sileo, performing oral on Bruce Allen, his butt buddy from the Raiders. You are right, I don't know what I"m talking about.

  2. How about this?  Leavitt never made a "matching offer".  Maybe this information is for the public's benefit.  Six assistants have left in two seasons.  Maybe all is not what it appears to the public. 8-)

How about this? Maybe you're just a lonely dweeb that gets his rocks off making up stuff and posting it on internet message boards.  [smiley=loser.gif]

Rock on, young grasshopper.  Nice of you to break away from American Idol to post.

  3. I'm beginning to think Coach Greg Gregory is backup QB Grant Gregory's father.  Grant played football in OH in HS and Gregory was a coach at Ohio U.  And Grant's bio mentioned his father coached at Army.  Can someone confirm this?

    sure is

Is it just me or does this situation have a conflict of interest?  Don't ya think Coach Gregory may be a bit quick to pull Grothe if he seems to be struggling and replace him with Grant?

Wow.  Open up the window and look outside, Mr. Little, the sky is not falling....

  4. If I have stirred up a controversy, so be it. After Jose's diatribe against USF marketing, it hit a nerve that is so prevelant in the Tampa Bay area. We have one of the largest university's in this state. USF DOES NOT get the attention and recognition it deserves in the media, nor in the public eye. It seems that they are always ready and willing to point the finger of accusation and demise, rather that support and accolades. Mr Duemig always finds a sarcastic way to needle and jab at the negatives of USF and give a nonchelant view at their accomplishments. Albeit he is not alone in this venture as the Tampa Trib and their sports editorial staff have repeatedly shown time after time. My gripe is that in order for USF to be known and supported by it's OWN community, the local media has to support USF. This is Tampa, not Gainesville, not Tallahassee, not even Miami. If their fan bases want info on these schools, subscribe to their papers, or let the media put them second. The media controls this town with fan base. If the media promotes, the fans show up. If they don't, you can better bet the others will get the top billing. It's time for a change, it's time for a revolt. New slogan for the Tampa media... "USF or Nothing Else."    Reaper

Rock on, Reaper. Bartender, give me a double of what my man here is drinking, to start my week right........

  5. I was at a dinner this weekend and a person there is very involved in Plant athletics (this is before the UM visit this weekend) was there. this person said marve was a lock for UM because his dad wants him to play there, he'll get loads of playing time with the program, and he likes the city.  USF was "nowhere in the picture, no chance" was what our chances were given.  Seems his remarks after the visit echo what I heard.

               Release: 01/18/2007

TAMPA, FLA. (January 18, 2007) – Following the death of USF freshman running back Keeley Dorsey on Wednesday, head coach Jim Leavitt has canceled the team’s annual banquet, scheduled for this Saturday evening. A decision on if and when the banquet will be re-scheduled will be made at a later time. Additionally, USF has canceled all on-campus recruiting visits this weekend.

Coach Jim Leavitt and team chaplain David Lane flew to Tallahassee this morning to meet with the Dorsey family.

Classy move. Leavitt's "every man" persona is well-suited for these moments, unfortunately, he needs to use it now.  I wish him luck.

  8. Whoa, pal, put down the green and gold beer goggles. Which game were you watching...?

Howard's box  0-4 FG, 0-2 3pt, 2-5 FT, 3 Asst, 5 TO.........Capkoesque, if you ask me. Let's not annoint him the Great Notwhite Hope quite yet....

HAVE to improve the FT shooting though. "Shooters" arent supposed to miss free throws.

My comment had nothing to do with statistics...

...or facts, apparently.  Should have passed on the first half of Idol, maybe you'd have gotten a better feel for the game......

Fact is that coaches and players have commented on Howard's leadership qualities which wouldn't show up on a stat sheet. That's all I was refering to but go ahead and come back with some more of that witty repartee.... The American Idol shot was a classic.

Yeah, I hear you, but that's like the theory (and let me apologize in advance for any perceived insensitivities) "the tallest midget jumps center"....I don't see great leadership in our coaches, so their Greenspan-esque omnipotence of the situation has little weight with me.  They're prejudiced witnesses. I don't see Mac as the kind of guy who rallies the troops, makes them want to run through walls. Ever hear him speak? (again, pardon moi for any perceived insensitivities...) He just does not have the oratorical skills or game time rhetoric to fire up the troops, or at least I don't see it.

Someone else pointed out that maybe the boys' malaise was as a result of Dorsey's death, that certainly could explain it.  Re: Idol, Tivo, bro, just like my kids do.  Watching a train wreck is only worth watching at the moment of impact, not all the bs before or after....

Carpe diem, though, amigo, I enjoy your passion.

  9. Did it occur to any of you that some of those guys may have been friends with Keeley Dorsey?  Is it possible they might have gotten off to a slow start after hearing news about a fallen athlete?  Just a thought.  They all spend time in the athletic facility together.  I know I was in a daze this afternoon/evening when I heard the news.

    Normal

    Point well taken.

  11. Blah game, but there wasn't too much difference between these two teams, seems to me.  If we had hit free throws, we could have had it.  How many minutes did Gransberry play in the first half, was he in when they pulled away? I didn't even notice him.

Speaking of not being noticed, Howard looked tired today. 3 games in a week versus none for 3 years seems to have worn on him, specifically the hat trick at the end of the game.  Good things he's got brains, he didn't seem to have too much spring.

    This game was winnable.

That is exactly what I am saying... this game proved to be winnable... not because WVU is bad... but because we played with enough heart and have enough talent.  WVU is 14-2 and has been ranked this season and probably will again shortly.  They've already beaten at least one ranked team.  We got behind bad early, but battled back.  We might not have won, but the final 35+ minutes showed we can play dead even with a top 30 team on the road.

We have a lot of work to do as a team, but we are learning.  Did you notice Mattis didn't put the ball on the floor from 20 feet out, except once and he got a layup on that one.  That is an improvement.   We didn't go inside to gransberry in the first half... half time adjustment, and we go inside constantly.  I wish we had done that in the first half... who knows what would have happened.  The are plenty of good and bad things to take from this game, but I hope the players take from this game that if they give it their all... they are going to win some games this year, even against good teams.

I more or less agree, but I'd say the better talent was wearing green and gold, except maybe for Jammin' Joe.  We didn't adjust well enough in the first hand, particularly, as you said, on backing down Gransberry, but also covering the skip pass for the trey, way too many open looks from the arch. In the second half, we defensed much better, rare open 3 looks. Honestly, pretty boring game, except for Mattis 5-star effort, he was playing within himself on offense, and a force on defense, as most often.

  13. i've been to almost every womens basketball game this season, i came to last nights game during halftime after getting out of class, but i do have to agree with Jose.  walking around campus, the signs that show the times of the basketball games were not updated with the time for last nights womens basketball game, it still showed the times for this weekends games.  as "the diehards" we need to step it up and support this team, how many people on here that live within 30 minutes were posting updates during the game?  show up and support this team, who cares if its womens basketball or not, these ladies put there heart and soul into every game they play, they win games, and are on pace to go to a second straight NCAA tourny, and possibly being ranked in the top 25 after last nights victory.  you all sit here and complain about the mens team, yet you all show up to watch them, well the women deserve it as well.  flsportsfan83 ones said that womens basketball was the only team worth supporting, yet he refuses to go to a game, he'd rather attend mens games where he blasts the coach.  get up off your lazy butts and get to the game, you will not be dissappointed.

Very weak work by the University if the game times aren't even updated. Almost disrespectful, to be honest.  How do you reruit into an environment like that?  Props to Jose, I'd say.

  14. The thing that I like about the staff is their ability to see what others don't necessarily see.   for example, last year Hillsborough High quarterback Jared Fayson was a very early commit, maybe even in his junior year.  He had not fully blossomed yet, and not many folks saw what  would  he would turn into as a senior.  Apparently USF did.  Same thing for Robert Marve.  When we offered very early in the summer, everyone said "who is Robert Marve?".   Same thing for Selvie two years ago , where the staff was very high on him and the  scouting services were not .

Seems to me that these guys recruit a particular type of athlete, much along the lines of West Virginia, without the nepotism found in that fine state.  Our prototypical player may not be the prototypical player for other schools, but the we should have faith in the judgment of the staff, they've earned it.
