  1. This is great!  We are in the best position we could be.  Look -- What's the big hairy deal when a well known, long traditioned school wins?  What, is it noteworthy?  No.  But we are getting no respect (actually the appropriate respect is purposely being withheld).  We will NEVER again have the opportunity to shove it up their...noses.  After this season, we will be a known school with a rep to live up to.  Right now, we have it sweet.  No one expects us to do anything and when we do, they refuse to give us props.  That gives us the unique opportunity to be giant killers, Cinderellas, whatever.

I'm loving it.  Call us skunks, try and keep us out of the club.  I don't care, it just makes us look better when we punch them in the face and take their lunch money.

We know what we have and we believe in it.  Now it is time to smack some people upside the head and grab their attention.  I'm sorry, but we are Florida Boys and we don't do things nice.  We won't wait in line and sit quietly.  I say let's put the dogs on them.

Skunks, huh?  I got your skunk...

  2. So someone outside of Tamp thinks we are underrated?  Give that person a Pulitzer!

It is time someone had the..uh...fortitude to admit in print what we have known.  But as has been said many times here--it is up to us to prove it to the world.  Respect cannot be demanded, it must be earned.

Still, I credit the writer with more integrity than the ESPN bozos who would love to see us fall on our butts.

  3. Great article!  I was impressed on a lot of planes bout this game.  Julmiste got it together in both passing and rushing.  That was great to see.  Our offense was not one dimensional this time.  I would criticize the play calling, but I will wait until I am better than a coach who gets paid for calling plays.  Until then I will learn.  I thought that this game would be much closer and even feared that we would lose handily, but I am also impressed with the knowledge of most of the other posters here who accurately predicted the outcome and can analyze our and other teams intelligently.  Until I can do that also, I will learn.

I graduated in 1994, when I was 39, so I am a lot older than most who post here.  I really didn't want a football team because USF's reputation was being built solely on academics.  We have some of the best programs in the nation and that not only makes me very proud, but adds value to my diploma.  But I have to tell you, since this team started nine years ago I am riveted to the screen or my seat at ray jay.  I am so proud of my team and university.  I graduated with an MS from UCF, but they are not even on my radar screen.  USF used to be a sleeper university.  We knew we had something, but nobody would listen.  We knew that we would someday be THE premier university in Florida, but we got laughed at for that belief.  There are less people laughing now and more believing.  Our football team is putting us on the map faster than the team from any other university.  Credit needs to go to Jim Leavitt for building a Cinderella team from what was once considered a commuter university.  Credit also needs to go to you fans -- those whose knowledge of the game baffles me (how do you acquire so much knowledge?) -- and those whose faith in this team will not ebb and flow with victory and defeat.

My hat is off to the coaching staff, the team, its fans and the administration who had the foresight to know that the time was right for football at USF.  We have a great future ahead of us and it is with pride that I tell people that I graduated from USF.

  4. Biggest Rival -- S. Mississippi.  Didn't want us in the C-USA, huh?  Who loves ya, baby!

Biggest Conference Rival -- Pitt.  L'ville is a good choice, but I believe that we wanted Pitt's butt more because of the series.  I don't think most people believed that we would beat L'ville, so it was sweet, but the animosity wasn't there.

UCF?  Gimme a break.  Aim high (I was in the Air Force).

  5. Please forgive my ignorance (after my BA from USF, I got an MS from Central Florida) but my wife just suggested that we go down for the game (YAY!!).  This was out of the blue.

I have never been to an away game and on such short notice.  Do I go to ticketmaster?  I saw someone got their hotel on Priceline.  Is there a bus going down from Tampa?

Future season ticket holder here needing some guidance.  This is the first season that I have allowed myself to attend games due to focusing on grad school, but I ready to make up for all that sacrifice.  HELP, I want this to happen. ???

  6. That's what I was thinking, too.  It is certainly more natural, especially after this game, than the artificial lets-start-a-rivalry-by-behaving-badly-in-thier-house approach that Mickey Mouse U tried.  U of L fans are much classier than the drunk children who trashed RJ last week.

However, rivalries develop not from proclamation but from competition.  I could see where since we are both competing for bowls and the record is 2-1 (with a sound thrashing thrown in), the atmosphere is right for development.

  7. The New York Times sports headlines:

    MIAMI 23, COLORADO 3

Hurricanes Don't Have Much to Swagger About, Except the Score

    By PETE THAMEL

No. 12 Miami struggled to run the ball, sputtered in the red zone and lacked the ability to blow out an inferior team.

I don't know about the inferior part, but they better play a whole lot better than the team that was ranked three places ahead of them (UL) in the AP poll this week.

    UnBULLievble!!!
