  1. There's a reason he was run out of Baton Rouge. The majority of his wins were with Skip's players. They barely made the SEC tourney, and didn't make the NCAA tourney. That would be like FSU or Miami not making a Bowl game in football. This is NOT someone you want...
  2. I completely understand the NCAA rules as it comes to scholarships, recruiting, etc. I'm saying you're way off on your premise that D2 baseball is much weaker than D1 baseball. It's not nearly the same difference as football, or basketball, or pretty much any other sport out there. Yes, there is a difference, but the talent gap is much more narrow. This Tampa team probably couldn't hang with the top teams like Clemson or Texas, but a USF or Miss St or Wake Forest (just using examples, you get the point) would be a very good matchup at this point. Have you seen this team play? They are definitely D1 calibre. The top D2 teams usually are in baseball. It's the nature of the sport (and helps that the top players go from high school to the pros).
  3. Joe, You're way off on this one. There really isn't that big of a difference from the top D2 teams and the D1 teams. This Tampa team would hang with most D1 teams, and would absolutely handle USF right now.
  4. Tampa would probably handle USF right now. As I'm typing, they're in the process of moving on to the DII Title game. This UT team is absolutely stacked at both the plate and on the mound. Urso would be an excellent choice, but he's not leaving UT anytime soon...
  5. I just don't see how if you add a proportionate amount of women to men as was prior to adding the sport, that all of a sudden the school wouldn't be compliant. Mathematically, that doesn't make sense. I guess that's where the confusion comes in.
  6. Ok, I guess the confusion comes here: is USF Title IX compliant right now? If not, why haven't there been sanctions and/or changes by Woolard? If so, adding a proportional amount of women-to-men in a single sport should theoretically keep the school at the same compliance level, correct?
  7. Alright, a quick look makes it roughly 60/40 women/men at USF. Assuming USF is Title IX compliant now (haven't read anything signficant that USF isn't), then adding a swim team isn't impossible in the Title IX aspects. Almost all swim teams that field both men and women include more women than men. On a 40-person squad, that would mean 24 and 16. Problem is you score (travel) up to 18, so you'd need atleast 26-27 women. Still can be done really without much problem, IMHO.
  8. USF would easily be in Title IX regulations if it fielded a team of 22 women/18 men. 18 travel for each, but if the roster includes 22, that's the number counted towards the Title IX count. And that's a very realistic swim team squad.
  9. Yep, pathetic. Florida, Florida State, Miami (women's), Florida Atlantic, Univ of Tampa, North Florida (women's), Florida International, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida A&M, Rollins, St. Leo, Florida Southern.... But not USF....
  10. 3rd one ever in the history of the school. I'm convinced it's harder to throw a no-hitter in college (aluminum bats, overall better hitters than pitchers, weaker fielders) than in the pro's. This is an amazing accomplishment. http://www.ut.edu/athletics/sports/baseball.html
  11. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Since the University is doing such a great job of promoting this : I figured I'd post this here. Great band, make it out to see them, you won't be disappointed, especially for free. http://www.theusfconcert.com/
  12. Air Force, Utah State and Bradley took FSU, Cincy, and Michigan's spots. This was a total screwjob by the NCAA in favor of "mid-majors". The MVC really ='s the ACC in legit teams? What a joke. And if you want to throw in the rpi, look at Bama's 92 ranking there (yet somehow got in).
  13. Upset previous undefeated Rollins in the championship game to win the SSC Tournament Title and gain an automatic birth into the NCAA tournament. http://www.ut.edu/athletics/sports/wbasketball.html Sorry ET, had to post this ;D And your pics of Schmidt are hilarious, I have to admit.
  14. Yeah, and his post was well after it was moved....
  15. Uhhh...."State of Florida College Athletics Board"......Same reason why Miami, UF, UCF, Florida Southern, Univ of Tampa, etc....Good job, sparky.
  16. It also took FSU 13 years to regain competitiveness. And it took Hamilton 4 years. It takes time.
  17. All you're asking for is NCAA violations, DUIs, and 0% graduation rates (which are now tied into scholarship dollars). I'd much rather the university go after a Mike Davis, or a top level asst. such as Steve Robinson (UNC) or Wojo (Duke) or something along those lines. Huggins brings nothing positive to the table other than a big name. Everything else is negative. His DUIs, his rampant cheating, and his 10yr streak of 0% graduation rates. Let's keep in mind that ultimately, these kids won't make it to the NBA, and need an education to fall back on. BBall affords them the ability to get that education that they wouldn't be able to get otherwise. And guys like Mike Davis, Steve Robinson, etc have proven to be competitive while still making sure the student-athletes go to class and do it in a dignified manner. Bob Huggins would be the absolute worst choice Woolard could make if he were to fire RMC.
  18. And you're fooling yourself if you think the very first thought of football at USF came from someone in 1990.
  19. USF had a great swim team back in the mid-80s. Won a DII national championship, and then was dropped the following year as one of the athletic department casualties when football was being introduced.
  20. Yes USF does. Notice the other schools that don't have teams in the Big East: Marquette, DePaul, St. Johns, and Providence. None are big schools, none have football, and none of the athletic budget that USF has. If USF wants to be considered a big-time athletic department in the Big East, and if Doug Woolard wants to be serious in making USF the "#1 athletic department in the Big East" (paraphrased quote from when he was hired), then USF needs to field more sports, men's/women's swimming being the biggest missing pieces. There's plenty of money in the athletic department budget (I did the research on this once Woolard was hired, and posted it on here, if you want, I can find it again I'm sure). Covering both men's and women's programs would still cover Title IX issues. And recruiting in Florida would be extremely easy with the talent the state produces in the sport. This should be a no-brainer for Woolard.
  21. UT is too inconsistent right now. Schmidt isn't too happy right now, but then again, he never is.
