  1. Thoughts out to the Dorsey's and all of us that are part of the USF family...
  2. You couldn't be further from the truth in regards to Miami. They made their program by brining in speed from Florida, and great coaching (Jimmy Johnson, Dennis Erickson--although he cheated, Butch Davis). Miami and FSU were the teams that realized "We'd rather the All-Florida players vs the All-America players", and built their programs on that ideal. Ultimately, other schools caught up to that philosophy. The move from Big East to ACC has no bearing on recruiting for Miami. They're always going to go up against FSU and UF, not Penn St/Syracuse/fill in your favorite northeast team here. Miami's problem now is that they don't have the coaching to reign in the speed and use it to their advantage. And bringing in a coach who was the head of the those that were brawlin' last year won't help their reputation. As for FSU, the wholesale coaching changes on the offensive side of the ball should show that Bowden has seen the light. Factor in his comments, and he's hardly "one foot in the grave". He's much better off than JoePa in his team's potential to be good and continue that success. Mark it down, they're in the BCS next year. It helps that the ACC will be relatively weak again given who's graduating and the coaching shuffles. You're correct in your UF and USF analysis.
  3. I'd recommend Dr. Seth Gasser, but he's at FOI, too.
  4. They did have an OC in place, until Saban decided to throw $1million/yr towards Jimbo at the 11th hour. As for Steele's replacement, it's almost 100% understood that it will be Amato, so no worries from the USF front.
  5. If Saban truly called Marve, then that's a recruiting violation. The dead period doesn't end until tomorrow.
  6. That's because Dawsey flat out denied it. If it was true way back then maybe he should have gone to Bama with other liar... That was coachspeak. He didn't flat out deny it like Saban denied Bama. He basically said "I'm happy at USF". BIG difference.
  7. Saban did the same thing when he went to the Dolphins, and Jimbo wouldn't budge. I think in the end, he'll end up at FSU, but who knows with Bama? In any case, Dawsey is an excellent pickup for FSU, and a big loss for USF. Hopefully USF can find a replacement somewhat close to Dawsey's skills.
  8. probably because no one wanted it to happen. it's been rumored for awhile. fsu seems to be getting whoever they want. if they get jimbo fisher over alabama i'll be impressed. i guess i had hope that dawsey would stay here, though. It looks like FSU's biggest problem is holding on to Kevin Steele. He's the LB coach. Saban is trying to steal him and Jimbo away. As an FSU fan, I'd much rather Steele stay and lose out on Fisher. Should make for an interesting FSU/Bama game in Sept next season.
  9. And I got ridiculed for saying this would happen a month ago
  10. You don't think he'll be drafted?? Wanna place a bet? Hell, he'll be a 1st day draft pick. He was one of the best LBs in the nation this year.
  11. I'd jump in (since I posted the Dawsey to FSU rumor earlier), but JDBull has pretty much stated everything I'd say. It's coach speak. What is he supposed to say? "I hate it here and am looking elsewhere"? No. As of now, it's understood that the OC at FSU will get to make his decision about OL and WR coach. Since the OC hasn't been hired yet, there hasn't been an offer to any WR coach (which includes Dawsey). Once the OC is hired, the official offer will come down. At that point is when it's more important to hear what Dawsey has to say. As of now, what more can he say other than "I'm happy"?
  12. ET, Tampa may be > than Tally, but not at his level of coaching experience. At some point he has to make a move up the ladder, and a position coach at FSU is higher up that ladder than a position coach at USF. It's really as simple as that. When you factor in it being his alma mater (whom I'm sure most would have a much higher loyalty to than any professional team) and a coach that gave him his first job, it's pretty clear cut. Except for those that are Mocs. Blinded by their own inferiority is understandable
  13. As for Rainey, are his own comments on record not enough evidence for you?
  14. ET, You say USF gave him his first collegiate coaching job, then in the very next post, you say his ties as a GA aren't too powerful. I'm pretty sure his GA position (which technically is paid, since it covers his tuition, etc) at LSU was truely his first real coaching job at the collegiate level. Plus, FSU has a stable of WRs. They just didn't have any direction under a well-documented underacheiving offensive staff. Combine that with 4 QBs (Weatherford, Lee, Richardson, Ponder) that were all supposedly studs in high school, and your arguements are pretty much null.
  15. Bull, In terms of just moving to FSU from USF, it's not a lateral move. That's a "step up". He may very well be happy at USF, but how long will he be *only* a WR coach? If the man has aspirations of moving up the coaching chain, he has to take a better job at some point. As it stands (and again, I do not intend for this to be a knock on USF), a position coach at FSU is a step above a position coach at USF in the coaching hierarchy. And if Jimbo Fisher is added into the mix, it's all but a done-deal, logically. I just feel that he'll make the move no matter what, but that's based strictly on opinion.
  16. Bien said that USF is working him quite hard... and given the attention Grothe has gotten at USF, it means Marve could get some national attention as well. The question is, could he beat out X Lee and Drew W at FSU?? He won't beat out MG, but would be a GREAT backup -- and would probably start his junior and senior years. Personally, I would love having him in a Bulls uniform... FSU has 2 other QBs that redshirted this year, will be rsFr next year (Christian Ponder and D'Vontrey Richardson). Both were some of the top QBs in the country coming out of high school. I doubt that would be a smart move for Marve to go there. He'd be better off going to USF, redshirting a year, and having 2 after Grothe ultimately leaves.
  17. Not yet. The overall word seems to be that it's Jimbo Fisher's job after the Sugar Bowl unless he scores a head coaching job before then. If that's the case, Dawsey is almost a lock to move on to FSU, since he a) is an alum, is a WR coach (Jeff Bowden's other duty), and c) worked with Fisher at LSU. However, it's impossible to figure out. There are a TON of head coaching jobs popping up, and Fisher seems to be a candidate for all of them (but yet, there's a lot of hiring already, and he's still available). Also, Bowden seems to be keeping a hardcore lid on all of this. My guess is Dawsey makes the jump to FSU no matter what. The WR coaching position is open, and every OC candidate being tosses around is a QB or OL coach. Combine that with his alum status, and wanting to eventually "move up" (no offense to anything USF, just a perceived fact), it just makes too much sense for him personally.
  18. I did a quick scan and hadn't seen this yet, but I'm sure it's somewhere. Sorry if it's a repost. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2006/12/08/a9b_fsu_1208.html
  19. You guys completely missed an important part of this.... If a team finishes in the Top 6, they are GUARANTEED a BCS birth (unless 2 other teams ahead of them are in the same conference). 1) Ohio St 2) USC 3) Michigan 4) Florida 5) LSU 6) Louisville 7) Wisconsin 8) Boise St 9) Arkansas 10) Notre Dame If Rutgers beats WVU, Notre Dame will be left out of the BCS A Rutgers win would mean the 4 atlarges would be Michigan/LSU/Louisville/Boise St. It looks like Michigan/LSU/Boise St are locked in for automatic BCS births. That leaves Louisville as the wild card. The other teams ahead of Notre Dame can't make it for one reason or another (either losing or already having 2 teams from the same conference represented in the BCS). So a Rutgers win = Rutgers Big East Champs and Louisville the gauranteed 4th slot (as the #6 team, assuming they don't blow it vs UConn).
  20. They're probably too worried about their next intramural game....
  21. Umm...FSU has the most current players in the NFL of any college. And the Wall Street Journal ran an article at the beginning of the year about FSU being the best NFL player-producing school. With that said, it's all on XLee now, apparantly. His talent can somewhat make up for Jeff Bowden/Darryl Dickey. The defense is building some SERIOUS depth due to playing freshmen and walk-ons because of injury to starters. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out.
  22. Actually, this would be it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bx1jMIGkMw
  23. For what it's worth, Tampa is a much different team this year than last. A ton of new players that are much better than what they fielded last year. Not that it matters, USF should win this game everytime it's played. Now if it was on the women's side, I'm willing to bet Tampa would roll rather easily right now. PS. Sorry for the late response, I just now found my way back here.
