  1. They have a really nice USF tent at the Sam's on Dale Mabry and Northdale. Bought mine there last summer and it's really good quality and a great price. If you are in need of one, I would check there first. I think I saw them again there just a few weeks ago.

They also have a sweet Bulls tailgate table there as well.

    Good Luck!

    Go Bulls!

Ah, thanks for the link! Does kinda look like another iteration of the typical event model which university officials put on for away games. With all due respect to them, a very large proportion of the young alumni and their preferences are ignored/overlooked by these cookie-cutter pregame events, which is why several of us from the board (along with Craig from Bulls Outfitter) have banded together over the years to put on fan-sponsored bowl game and away game tailgates.

That event is inside (how do you call it a tailgate?). It is a tad costly for bootstrapping young alumni already scaping together to make a trip. They tend to be aimed at older alumni and feature no classic tailgate games. Again, all due respect, but the event is not aimed at the 20s-to-early-40s fans who make up an important next generation needed to keep growing the USF fanbase and active alumni base.

I am interested to know if anyone going to this game would join for a beerpong/flip cup/cornhole style tailgate which would be outside, feature cans of beer, and actually involve the tailgate of a truck (if I can find a non-astronomically priced rental). I am bringing a tent, a speaker, and beer on ice but could use some pong opponents :D

    Go Bulls!

We'll be there to join you at the outside tailgate. Beer pong here we come.

  3. Haven't heard anything about HR's.  Does that mean we've gone 3 games against weak competition without one?  That is a cause for concern if we haven't.  Know it is cold out and the ball may carry better as it warms up, but still.  Nice to get runs but would like to see at least a bit of power.

Homeruns are nice. But a bit overrated in this day in college baseball. UCLA Bruins last year won the World Series after hitting just 19 HR's all year. That's in 66 games played. So don't worry too much about the HR's. Pitching/Defense is the name of the game. And if they keep scoring runs like the last two games the HR's are meaningless.

    Go Bulls! Nice start!

Our at-large hopes were pretty weak to begin with and all that was lost this weekend was seeding. The road to a regional was always going to be through the tournament and, more than likely, a Louisville team we avoided this year.

Not true at all. Bulls would have pretty much locked up an at-large bid this past weekend if they could have won 2 out of 3 games vs Seton Hall who had a pretty decent RPI and have been on a big streak which the tournament committee looks at hot teams towards the end of the year. Now getting swept has pretty much taken us out of an at-large bid at this point unless something crazy happens. It looks like a Big East tournament win is our only hope. Possibly getting to the Championship game of the Big East Tourney with no losses could help our at large bid chances as well but we pretty much can't lose any of the 4 games remaining and have to get to the tourney final with no losses to have a slight chance for at large.

    Go Bulls!

Our RPI was in the mid to low 60s, Seton Hall is in the 30s. Winning 2/3 would have bumped us into the 50s, at best. I don't know if I'd call that a "lock" without seeing what we do in the tourney.

Not true again. Our RPI before the series started was at 50.( http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/weekend-preview-may-10-12/ )

We are now at 66 after the 3 straight losses. Winning 2 of 3 would have put our RPI in the mid 40's at worst. The magic number for RPI is 45. Typically most teams that have an RPI at 45 or under get an at large bid. Winning 2 of 3 at Seton Hall would have definetly gotten us to or under that magic number of 45 RPI assuming we would have won 3 of 4 of our remaining games vs FGCU and Rutgers. But now being that our RPI dropped to middle 60's, it will be impossible to get our RPI back in the 40's.

Regardless, it's all irrelevant now seeing that we lost all 3. Bottom line is now we pretty much need to win tourney to get in.

Would love to see this team make something special of the season. Need these wins.

What's the conference picture look like?

Here's the standings heading into today.

    Team ... W-L ... GB  ... GR

    USF.... 13-2 ... 0.0 ... 9

    Pitt... 12-3 ... 1.0 ... 9

    UL..... 11-4 ... 2.0 ... 9

    SHU.... 10-5 ... 3.0 ... 9

    RU...... 8-7 ... 4.0 ... 9

    ND...... 7-8 ... 6.0 ... 9

    UConn... 8-10 .. 6.5 ... 6

    SJU..... 7-11 .. 7.5 ... 6

    GU...... 5-10 .. 8.0 ... 9

    UC...... 4-14 . 10.5 ... 6

    VU...... 2-13 . 11.0 ... 9

    Only one clinch scenario today.

USF can clinch tournament berth with win over Notre Dame.

USF already clinched a Big East tournament berth. Worst they can do is end up in tie with St Johns and they own the tie breaker going 3-0 vs St Johns.

Not quite. There is a scenario in which Seton Hall or Notre Dame sweep USF and then St Johns sweeps Seton Hall or Notre Dame, and all three of those teams end up tied together with a 3-3 record against the other two. Then the tie-breaker is impossible to discern at this point because of so many variables involving games yet to be played.

So mathematically we have not clinched.

Ok. Let's see if that happens. LOL. Go Bulls!

  8. Sorry didn't post sooner but been busy at work. Southwest has a special going thru today for discounted fares. 5 of us booked this morning to Reno. The flight leaving Thurs and coming back Sunday was a more manageable $481. Pretty good considering it has been in the $600's for the last few months!

    See you in Reno!

    Go Bulls
