Dismissed UF forward Mosby going to Baylor By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer Published May 8, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brooksville's Bernice Mosby, a three-year starter at Florida who was dismissed in March, will transfer to women's national basketball champion Baylor. "It's a great opportunity for me," said Mosby, a 6-foot forward who will sit out the 2005-06 season and have one season at the school in Waco, Texas. "The program has everything I want to accomplish in my last year in college basketball." Mosby, who led the Gators in scoring (15.5 points) and rebounds (8.6) as a junior, visited Virginia Tech last month and strongly considered South Florida. The Hernando High graduate said she was drawn to Baylor by the allure of playing for a championship program, but didn't make her decision until a campus visit last week. "It's not a knock on the other programs," Mosby said. "USF has a great program and coach (Jose) Fernandez has always stuck by me. But at this point, I just felt it was the best opportunity, after meeting with the coaches and players this week. And I love all the fan support they have. They treat the girls there like queens." Mosby has finished the spring semester at Florida and is scheduled to begin summer classes at Baylor on May 31. After playing primarily power forward at Florida, she said she'll see time at small forward at Baylor.
