Not an excuse but one thing to consider  is that we play a fast style of offense which may mean that the defense is on the field more often with shorter breaks.

Sounds like a very flawed strategy.
Perhaps winning the time of possession battle isn’t an outdated concept.

The unbiased measuring stick is wins.   USF has 4 wins this season.   USF had 4 wins under Jeff Scott in 3 seasons.   Any logical person would say this team is better than last season.

That would be logical, if you choose to ignore the massive drop in quality of opponent. How does this years team do with last years schedule…and vice versa?

As bad as last years defense was, this years defense, outside of the Alabama anomaly, is playing worse competition and seemingly doing worse at it. On offense, clearly we had more talent at the skill positions last season so how much of our offensive performance this year gets attributed to playing lesser opponents. Inquiring minds want to know.

Just think how competitive we will be after 3 more realignments, VPMK is playing the long game with his continued success through failure strategy. Maybe we can even get this conference to a level we can have the longest home winning streak to open a stadium in college football history, super exciting stuff.

Last season: BYU, Howard, Florida, Louisville, ECU, Cincinnati, Tulane, Houston, Temple, SMU, Tulsa, UCF

This season: WKU, FAMU, Alabama, Rice, Navy, UAB, FAU, UConn, Memphis, Temple, UTSA, Charlotte

Unpopular opinion, I’m not convinced the team is better than last season.

But how many with that capacity? There may be some larger drawing acts that pass the area by because of date availability. This could be another perk of the VSM affiliation ….. just no monster trucks.

Perhaps, Ray Jay would be its main competition. Problem is there aren’t many concerts that will need that capacity. Vast majority of concerts will still be at the Amp (also because it’s owned by Ticketmaster/Live Nation I believe), Amalie and a bunch of other venues in Pinellas (Vinoy Park, The Sound, etc.). I’d love to see a multi-use facility, there’s just a lot of competition in that space. As you said may be Vinik will steer some Amalie concerts USFs way.

The 340m in that scenario is pure cost. Offset by wins, engagement etc sure but still its writing checks to others.

If we drop 340 now on an OCS, USF has an engine for revenue and inflows for decades. Everything from parking to drinks to suite rentals to Taylor Swift concerts.

To me that settles it in my mind but yeah others can disagree

Thought about the potential for concerts, but not sure how likely that is considering there’s already an handful of existing venues in the area.

  6. Foot dragging is probably smart in this case. The notion of the $340M investment by USF into its football program has now been put out there to the p4 conferences. Let it marinate as long as possible to see if we can generate some traction/interest before ultimately having to commit to the final product and what the associated bill will be. The conditions and situation have changed pretty dramatically since this idea was kick started a couple years ago.

Hmmm...let's not get ahead of ourselves. Is it possible - possible - that there is a benefit to chilly weather and bikinis? I'm not saying there is, I'm just saying it might warrant a tad more research before committing to such. Sunken cost and all that, just thinking about what's best for the school...🤨

Attendance problem solved. Recruiting problem solved.

Trying to think back to my student days and attending games. Really wasnt much we needed. So what did they ask for? Wifi so they can **** around on their phones the whole time? Affordable concessions? Noon/3:30 games for less clothing?

Might be on to something there. Bikini U? Might have to budget for a retractable dome for those November games.

They want everything free and want someone else to pay for it. The oracle has shared students and professor not wanting a stadium written in multiple articles. The current student here Bryson has said most students at usf don't care about sports. I think the students and professors think if there is a stadium on campus they would have to pay more.

Apparently a byproduct from trying to turn USF into Harvard South. When I went to school in the late 90s USF was a good all round school that attracted your typical college kid - who actually liked sports.

Apparently, per this Oracle op piece, won't need a large student section and better provide free concessions.

A roaring stadium of rowdy fans, fascinating lectures packed to the brim with eager young minds and lively homecoming events: a picture of the campus experience...

I remember when I worked my way through school, lived in a travel trailer with my roommate and cooked all our meals to survive on the cheap.  Of course, in those days we walked uphill to and from campus in the snow....

Huh, so rising costs are resulting in students not going to free events? Not sure I see their logic unless they are saying every student is having to work during these free events which doesn’t sound likely either.

It costs just as much time, energy, and money to believe we're going to win our bowl game (that we're not even invited to yet) as it would cost to not believe.  Why not be a little bit optimistic?

Because we watched the last 3 games?

But sure, I’ll join…no doubt USF will beat anyone they play. Other team might as well forfeit the bowl game to save face from the beating USF will be handing out. In fact, let’s raise the stakes and bet our conference affiliation. Winner goes to SEC, loser gets the AAC.
