Obviously not clear yet, but if this change is to ensure there is some kind of (cost-effective) shade at the stadium, it’s absolutely the right decision (even if it delays the stadium a year), if the alternative was no shade. Would much rather they do things right than quickly.

Don’t see a difference between games without shade at the OCS vs games without shade at Ray Jay. No delays, no excuses.

I think it’s safe to assume they “interract” with those guys.  Hell, they gave them media credentials based on a twitter handle that resembled TheBullsPen.

If that was coordinated by USF then kudos and like you said, keep it going. The OCS comment has me skeptical unless we are getting renderings soon which based on yesterdays news I’d question/doubt.

I’d say buy these guys a beer but with Ray Jay concessions, high fives will have to do.

Yea, it would be nice after the meeting, or even sooner if possible, to have a public statement or a tweet by Kelly to confirm that the stadium is still on schedule with the same price tag.

The article quotes a public spokesperson; but it be nice to hear it from the top.

Think the concern might be what we are getting for that money; hence, the comment about control of the design and cost. Which is somewhat odd that the current firm wouldn’t have be able to accommodate such a request. I would have thought that was the model for building stadiums.

No lol. But hopefully he is right regarding the Georgia Southern vs USF Boca Raton Bowl match up. USF still owes GSU some revenge from our early years. I would be very happy with that match up.

Prefer not playing anyone from our “early years” considering I rarely recognize any of their names.

Kudos on you unending positivity though.

I've wondered about that. You watch QBs doing drills and they are bouncing on the balls of their feet. He stands there like he's waiting for a bus. I don't know enough about football to know if that's a good or a bad thing.

Think it can be good or bad depending on the footwork. But your description is exactly what I noticed. I would think it might be an issue with quickness and escape-ability but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

100% it does. Does not impact the potential of the program to perform, but overall I think it has a huge effect on fanbase. My wife visited her corporate headquarters in Birmingham towards the beginning of the season - the only thing people spoke about in office was who was driving to Tuscaloosa for the 'Bama game that weekend. People in Tampa have a lot of choices when it comes to spending a Saturday afternoon. That's part of the reason why I think moving to an OCS will actually HELP attendance, I think we will be better situated to capture fans who are even slightly unaligned with downtown Tampa/St. Pete - people in New Tampa/Land O Lakes/Lutz/Temple Terrace. We might (and should attempt to) become the biggest event of those communities come fall/winter while wooing the Tampa businesses for the luxury suites/clubs.

Spent some time in Birmingham and you are correct, football is next to religion.

Anecdotal but at a recent company meeting I attended there was an ice breaker for various on-site department heads on the panel to name their favorite sports team. There were around 10 participants but only 1 named a local team. Tampa is definitely transplant city.

Thought you said he'd be in line for a P5 gig if he came here first.

Yes, any P5 job he might have wanted - after the hype of turning around historically bad USF. Not the P5 job that he accepted and has now, which he doesn’t seem all that committed to when he answers questions to the TX A&M opening with “I’m here”. “I’m here” sounds like I’m stuck rather than I want to be here.

Point of the post was that Deion was in a prime (no pun intended) position with USF to send his hype to the stratosphere and cash in a big way like Willie T. I’m not sure how good of a coach Deion is, but he could simply out talent almost every team on our schedule this year. His mistake.

Not everyone but I’m sure some do wish they were at USF. Why you ask? Well for one they probably want to get to play in the game. Also Tampa Bay is a better place to live imo. I been to Tally and it is nice but it is no where near as special as Tampa Bay.

Students or players can transfer from FSU to USF at any time. Are they?

On a side note, been wondering if being in a metropolis actually is a bit of a detriment your football program? Seems like a lot of the best programs are in smaller cities where the college IS the town.

If he had gotten the same talent. That would have remained to be seen ...

Yeah I’m assuming he would have brought his sons and Travis. We keep Horn, Weaver, and perhaps others (Battie & the kicker).

Defense, as I believe it also is for CO, might have still been a problem but with this years schedule excluding Alabama, probably gets away with it.

Deion then gets credit for one of the greatest turnarounds in football history and can name his P5 job.

Deion might have f ed up not coming to Tampa.

AAU status goes a long way in repairing that reputation.  There are only 69 members in that club.  It is a shorthand for saying - nope its a quality school.  You can bet your ass that FSU that is undefeated in football right now is kicking themselves.  We are in an enviable position.

Yeah I’m sure everyone at FSU wishes they were at USF. Your apparent dislike of football is clouding your ability to reason.

Yeah, this is my concern. What's to stop our best players from skipping out on greener pastures, perceived or real. The combination of NIL and the portal has all but killed any non p5 school from being consistently successful.

This is how I see it as well. A scenario that might be okay is if USF can position itself as a/the top G5 school, and we raid the talent of lesser G5s. Or perhaps we get a couple P5 transfers who aren’t wash outs.
