Which is pretty stupid…no coach should ever be bigger than a program. Those who left for that reasons were not real fans of USF and their loyalty was a complete joke.

Loyalty goes both ways. Leavitt was loyal to the program, and his thanks was a spit in the face dismissal. It speaks volumes to anybody else considering being loyal to USF. They know that USF will drop you immediately and show no mercy. I'm not sure what donor wants to be part of that kind of culture. Why is this so trivial for you?

People wanted Leavitt out well before the alleged incident... that was just the catalyst.  He had plateaued and three straight years with mid-season collapses should have been enough to fire him.  Three years of problems and Holtz was fired. Three years of problems and Strong was fired.  Moreover, the academics of the team were on the brink of forcing USF to lose scholarships.  Something had to change.

What Jim Leavitt did here was outstanding. Anybody expecting more is an entitled fool with no perspective of what they are asking for. A 10 year old program that got to #2. Beating the big boys. So we lost some games. It was a brand new program...  Those people got what they deserved, which is a program that would immediately self destruct without him.

think this is a non story. they're only stopping horns down directed at opposing players, they can still do it to the fans and their own teammates.

Pretty sure all hand gestures directed at other players usually get flags thrown, see peace sign in super bowl.

That was easily the best taunting I've ever seen from any player ever! Antoine Winfield Jr is the man!

Yep, I think it time for this old guy (who remembers when the bloom was still on the rose for college sports and this album was new) to move on to new interests.  I think this season will likely be a farewell tour for me.

I'm feeling an eerily similar way, but my gripes are about the propaganda pushing. Hopefully this season is focused around fun, competitive football so guys like us don't get pushed out of enjoying (or crying for) our team.

Do you really want to play three teams (including Navy)that run the option? Hard pass on both of these for me.

Considering they hurt SoS, i agree.

The academies hurt their own recruiting by not letting players get drafted if they are able to. The service academies can always have it in players contracts that they must finish their contract AFTER the NFL. It would earn the academies much more recognition with better players imo.

My friend we seem to share a lot of views. But I still don't see any reason BLM should make you want to dislike a person. KJ Sails has been hands down one of our best ambassadors on the team. You don't even know the man personally to dislike him.

You're right that I don't know him personally, and recognize I'm judging a 23 year old while being 29. I hadn't even picked up a political opinion until 24 when it really caught my interest, and I've been reading about it ever since.

He could be a great guy. So could Aaron Lynch, but I didn't like him either as a fan. If you do a lot of talking but perform poorly, well, sorry.

I'm not from Tampa, but it seems that your law enforcement likes to VIOLATE the rights of black and white people. I'm not a member of BLM nor  do I even pay attention to the movement, but I'm THANKFUL for any group that actually speaks out against police brutality. And from what I remember, Coach Jeff Scott took part in the march....so do you hate him too? And "only look at it through the lens of race?"....Um BLM has the right to only focus on Black people. How does that make them racist? Do you go to a Breast Cancer Charity and get mad at them for not raising money for Prostate Cancer? The whole "All Lives Matter" rant is stupid. In the end police brutality and bad cops are a BIG problem for EVERYBODY.  So ANY type of attention that goes towards stopping police brutality is a win for ALL RACES. Look at this ******** Pasco County was doing in the link below. You are hating on probably the MOST mature player on our team from last year for what? A man who went the hardest for our team and you want to hate on him? Go ahead my friend, but that bitterness ain't good for your soul. Plus, when he makes it in the NFL, becomes a millionaire, and then comes back to run for office in Tampa (Did you not see his internship with the Mayor?), you are probably going to be even become a bigger hater.

Families were subjected to around-the-clock visits from deputies, who often arrived without evidence of a crime.

I agree with almost everything said here. Ill just reply to a few main points addressed:

    1. I currently have nothing positive to say about CJS. I'll remain open minded and patient with him, just as I would with KJ if he remained on the team. I don't hold grudges and like to give people time to grow.

    2. Police brutality is an issue all races deal with, and I do agree with the premise that black people deal with this more often proportionally to other races. I've cited studies in a college paper that black people are 4x more likely to be arrested for weed despite similar usage statistics.

    3. This article reminds me why I dislike the police's monopoly on force. Its predatory.

    4. The absolute hate some silly phrase like "all lives matter" gets, while "black lives matter" gets plastered everywhere speaks to how primitive we are as an 'inclusive society'. Are we unable to unify on an objectively unifying slogan? Is that too much to ask for?

I'm not bitter at all. I like who I like, and don't who I don't. If I'm an NFL GM, I'd sign Sails regardless of politics if he was good enough (he's not). As a fan, I'd prefer players who aren't supporting racist movements, which is why we both likely support firing our bball coach. Hes a young man, and hopefully he grows for the better. I certainly was not perfect at his age, so I project my criticism with a grain of salt.

**My main problem with BLM is that it poses a government problem through the lens of race only, and its proposed solution is voting Democrat and Defunding the police, without proposing private policing. Well anybody who follows politics knows defunding government programs is not what Democrats do. So as an intelligent citizen, I just see empty racist pandering. Idk how that can't upset rational, critically thinking people. I want this problem solved just as much as you do man.

More Solutions: end civil asset forfeiture, and qualified immunity.

Sails did what he could. When you lack a pass rush, you are sitting out there with receivers FOREVER. The QBs of our opponent had ALL DAY to throw the ball. And "I'm sort of glad he fell off"? I sense bitterness in your statement b/c of his off field activities. He's a smart guy, well spoken  and went hard for this team. No reason for you to be such a hater b/c he has different political views.

I thought the whole BLM parading was racist, and it was something they canceled practices for. There is an issue with police, but to only look at it through the lens of race is perverted. It simplifies bigger problems we have.

I have no problems with him, but I will not cheer for him, and don't mind when he loses

  9. Sails was one of the biggest disappointments last year, with Hampton not far behind. Sails had a really good Junior season, then seemed to really fall off his senior year. Almost as if he got distracted last off-season with non football related activities... I'm sort of glad he fell off if I'm being honest.

Best of luck to D Dukes, Norman, Reaves, and Cronkrite who were all fantastic players here. Those guys worked their tails off for this program, especially Reaves

Why invest a $20k/month mortgage payment when you aren't going to be in that property 3 years from now - either he is successful and someone hires him away or he craps the bed and he is fired. Apathetic mediocrity, which is a USF staple, is the only way he coaches more than 4 years here.

Id be a thrilled Bulls fan if Scott led USF to 7-8 win seasons, and I'm not sure that guarantees he leaves for pee 5

Whether allegations are true or not and I hope they’re not, considering this current cultural climate we’re in the only option is to gut the MBB coaching staff.  Anything less will be viewed as tolerating racism.

Why does USF make it so difficult for their fan base?  At this point, I’d cheer mediocrity in both MBB and football.  And mediocrity seems so far away.

I'm in favor of gutting the staff simply for losing so much, and now 7 players left. There is nothing being built here. Thats grounds for firing.

As for firing simply because of the climate is too simplistic. There has to actually be wrongdoing. Im not sure what world you live in where we just boot good people based on what might be an argument in practice. You have no idea what happend, and I think simply siding against the white guy because of culture is beyond racist, and only encourages more baseless accusations.

  13. This article makes it seem as if the Oline might be better this year. Its usually 60/40 that a returning player gets better from year to year, maybe higher on the linemen. Ill buy it that we run the ball better this year.

Thats also a lot of transfers for the secondary, which was sorely needed. I do like the idea of Smith going back there.

Overall, I think we will be better than last year.
