Leavitt lost at least three conference games every year... not sure that is a "deep tradition of winning".  Yes, under CJL the Bulls won some OUTSTANDING games. Auburn. WVU. L'ville. FSU.

But had some AWFUL losses as well.  The 2004 Homecoming game against Army.  The Voodoo 5 loss against U Conn.  The loss on the road to Kansas under Charlie Weiss.  The 31-0 shellacking from Rutgers.  That freaking Sun Bowl.

CJL built this program.  For that he deserves a statue at the OCS.  However, USF never finished higher than 3rd in the conference, never won 10 games, and was 5-10 against ranked opponents as I-A/FBS.

Also, CJL never had a team finish ranked in the final AP or Coaches polls.

Wow that looks like a winning season every year, while skyrocketing up the conference ladder unlike any team has ever done before.

Was this meant to brag about his accomplishments, and how under his leadership, we never felt what it was like to be a bad team? Almost like, he had a deep tradition of winning??

We are a bad team in a G5 conference, the #2 season was a weird year for CFB. Jim Leavitt never won a conference championship.

We aren’t a program with a deep tradition of winning, we cannot afford to fire coaches two-three seasons in. Let this guy run his course.

Under Leavitt, USF objectively had a deep tradition of winning. The only bad years of USF football have come outside of Leavitt.

If you want to point out the history of USF losing, never mention Leavitt's name again. You can mention Holtz, Strong, Scott, and anybody involved in Leavitts firing. Thank you.

I don’t know if I have an issue with a coach smacking a player.  (Don’t get all PC on me). They are football players, not ballerinas.  Coach Bobby Knight style.  Some kids need the discipline.  If remember our Jr HS coach wrote “pusssy” on a piece of masking tape on the d line helmets and they couldn’t finish practice till they knocked the tape off

I agree. I'd rather the loose cannon of energy for a coach than a squeaky clean wooden plank "attaboy" coach. Some people don't seem to comprehend what kind of passion the sport of football takes, and that we shouldn't be looking for a PR guy... but i guess college elites want "yes" men

a coach cant hit a kid. you get fired!

leavitt never got a  head coaching job again because he hit a kid

aaron donald is a false equivalency

i said he did good things at usf

    1. not a kid

    2. sure

    3. contracted adults both striking someone is a fair equivalency (understanding the status of the victim is a student in USF's case)

    4. great things, not just good. he was by far the best coach for the job.

I guess the only question I have for you is why is a full season's suspension not adequate? I think that is a clear message of internal discipline, without acting like this is some kind of villainous action that society will not tolerate. The point of bringing up Donald (who we should be able to agree was MORE violent than Leavitt) was to demonstrate that slapping in the context of football is not something people can't forgive. Why is your conclusion for him to be an eternal outcast who cannot continue his legendary journey as our first and only football coach??

if he hit a kid a second time that is punitive damages not covered by insurance

the university couldnt take a chance

didnt you ever wonder why leavitt never got a head coaching job after usf?

he did great things here but he crossed the line

All USF had to do was suspend him for a few games.

Aaron Donald isn't even being punished for taking his helmet and doing much worse than anything Jim ever did.

This is a game where players bash heads endlessly every day, and you think a slap is unforgivable, despite no camera evidence for context. Just hearing about a slap, and you want him gone??

When you ask me what Jim ever did after USF, I really start to question what you are trying to imply by that. His resume at USF is fantastic. Why should he be excited to keep coaching after having HIS team ripped away by petty people? Are you trying to say he was not a fantastic coach here??? Or that he was losing his energy? That's silly...

The Disappointing thing is just how unprepared they were when the game started they were out of position on almost every play on defense and on offense there was no imagination

That Absolutely Falls on the coaches.  I get they are brand new coordinators with a lot of new player but Really I counted at least 10 plays where the defense was waiting for the call from the sideline and BYU Was running a play.

at least three touchdowns were because the defense was out of position & didn’t know what it was doing

Nailed it. Having a dj playing loud music during the 2 hour delay?? I can't think of a better way to take my teams mind off the game. They look lost on the field... should have been talking over any plans. Professionalism guys

Dude... you're 3 coaches late on coming here and whining. Gotta do better than WWJLD when you're ******** about our team.

I think the point of bringing up Leavitt is to really rub it in the faces of those being dead wrong that he was "plateauing". It is comical to watch people being in such denial of something so obvious despite all evidence.

It reminds me of people who still hold on to the idea of cloth masks working.. they can't handle the idea of being wrong so they still wear them.

The people who wanted Leavitt gone ruined this program, and we want them to admit it.

True - hindsight is 20/20 and our talent pool at QB under CJS has been shallow

IMO, the 2020 starter should have been McCloud and 2021 McClain, without all the musical chairs.  Switching marginal QBs in and out does nothing to bolster confidence nor consistency.  Plus, Weis did little to help any of the QBs out - he did not seem to call plays based on the individual QBs abilities nor run plays designed to build momentum

With a single QB each year, we are still a bad team, but the win total probably goes up to 3-4 in 20 and 4-5 in 21 (assuming that the offense could have generated enough points to overcome the defensive issues as you pointed out)

Fortunately, Weis is gone, the QB talent has improved and CJS has stated that he will choose a starter early in camp

Under the conditions of losing every game and getting NOTHING going, you MUST make a change. Find the gamer on your team and give them the chance under the bright lights. I don't think there is any benefit to continue doing something that isn't working after multiple games.

  9. I think its mutually benefitting for both schools to work out a deal that keeps this rivalry up. This has been the most exciting REGULAR season game of the year for both teams for almost 2 decades now.

Sure, UCF has more leverage in negotiation due to being in the Big 12. I don't know what we'd have to offer to keep the rivalry, but I think its important we do what we can REASONABLY get a deal in scheduling. We both can make room. Its better than your other game for both squads.

Please no musical QB crap this year.  Can’t waste the first 4 games determining the starter.  Somebody needs to clearly emerge as the guy.

Its easy to say this before the season starts, but If we lose 4 games in a row with poor qb play, I strongly disagree with trying to plug a square peg into a round hole. This is what keeps happening, and is why we play musical chairs. If Timmy isn't the guy, try someone else. I can only agree with the clear starter thing if we are winning some games... Which we have failed to do for quite some time.

Kyler Murray in his true freshman year?

So lets just assume he fixes his footwork, accuracy, decision making, and reading defenses in one off season. I made my comment because many act like its a given that he will improve to be an elite college QB. I just have my doubts. He is athletic, but he isn't even close to putting it all together. He's the worst AAC QB until he isn't.

I've read several opinions from people that know the position way better than I do and they don't necessarily disagree with you, but they ALL think he will be an elite college QB. So, if he had another couple of seconds(better o-line play) to make those decisions we win the game.

I agree Timmy will get better, but I think blaming the o line for his struggles last year is a stretch. Too many throws where he doesn't set his feet.

I called it before the NFL year that the Cardinals were going to be amazing because Kyler Murray is a fantastic runner who reads the defense while he scrambles and sets his feet. Timmy LOOKS like he's playing hero ball all game. Like it's a video game to him. He must get better at reading defenses and work on being much more accurate, which are not easily fixable.

While Flowers had issues with accuracy, I never saw him as reckless with the ball, and he seemed to put more effort in his footwork.

I like Timmy, but it's not a given that he progresses

  13. I'm going to be a contrarian (I'm really not trying to be, but I disagree with takes on this board often) and say that this is a non issue. Jeff Scott clearly got into football from his dad. He has been around football his whole life because of his dad. If the man is comfortable around his dad, then I don't see why its a problem. If you don't like it, then you don't like Jeff Scott.

He has to find his way somehow. Being a Jim supporter, I clearly have no issue with unconventional methods. Just win baby!

He came up in conversation specifically as to why he never got another hc job. But he did get college dc jobs. So you explain why no hc job because no, I don’t know why unless it’s because he never won a conference championship, or even played in one nor had a team end the season ranked.

Are you implying he underperformed as a coach?
