but the problem is those teams with losses in big time conferences have a much better SOS, also we played some really bad teams which does not help.

It doesn't matter what their SOS is if they keep losing. All we can do is win at least 10 of our last 13 games and/or win the AACe tourney and leave the rest up to fate.  I'm not saying it's going to be an easy journey, but I don't agree with the "long shot" sentiment. At least not until we lose a few more games first.

what makes us a longshot is our current NET is 130. To get an at large we need to be like top 40-50. The conference is also not really good, only potential quality win left is FAU. I suppose you could win out get wins in the Conference tourneyt and lose in the championship game and find your way in. That being said its a long shot.

I also suspect we drop atleast a few games down the stretch.

Get the latest College Basketball rankings for the 2023-24 season. Find out where your favorite team is ranked in the AP Top 25, Coaches Poll, Top 25 And 1, NET, or RPI...

But the teams with the tougher schedule still have to win their games as well. A week ago, 14 of the AP Top 25 teams lost to an unranked opponent. There is a lot of parity this year, so a lot of teams will have losses. I feel we are selling ourselves short saying it's a longshot.

Nobody said that.  They said that was the only way we would get in, not with an at large bid ........

Based off of the records of our remaining opponents, we can win with or w/o winning the AAC tournament. We have 13 games left. Five of those teams currently have losing records and the rest either have the same record or more losses than us. Once again, what makes it a long shot for us to make the tournament? I'm not claiming that we will go to the tournament, but I don't see the "longshotiveness" of it all lol

Hell yeah!! It is great seeing USF addressing the secondary. Hopefully we see more pick six’s next season.

We were actually ranked in the top 20 in interceptions, but I think our defensive line got like 3-or 4 of them so I can't credit the secondary.

Side Note on free throws... I've been counting Pryor's free throw times lately, and I watched the referees' counts closely on all his FT attempts today. Even though it seems like he's close to a 10 second violation, he's pretty consistently around 7 seconds, so he actually has 2 seconds to spare. Whatever works for him I hope he keeps doing it!

His foot is always so close to the FT line that I swear he is always about to get a violation.

The 10th ranked team lost to 2 unranked teams in a row (USF & Tulane) and Wichita St is 8-10. That first win was a good win, for now. If Memphis keeps losing, it's not as important of a win come tournament time. And Wichita St is on a 7 game losing streak, that was a game we are supposed to win at home. This isn't a Gregg Marshall coached Wichita State team.

And who says we can't win the AAC tournament? Everybody left on our schedule either has the same record or a losing record. Which goes back to my question....what makes us such a longshot?

  7. You know a recruit I slept on? Stantavius smith. I didn't realize buddy had so many offers. If he can live up to at least half of his offer list, he should pan out pretty well.

"....chose USF over offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee and Vanderbilt among others."

Yes, it does.  You responded to a comment that "his dreams didn't include being a really good back up"   Battie wasn't a back up

I was referring to the kids transferring in general. A majority simply want to play and not sit the bench. There are others that are willing to sacrifice playing time in order to move up to a higher level of competition. Others may transfer for money. But in the end, players want to play and that will always be the main reason for players to transfer.

    Battie wasn't a backup .....

It dont matter. He took a chance to test himself against better competition. If he got paid then also good for him. He has another year to make something out of his career while also playing in the SEC. If he is able to make his mark as a 5'8 running back in the SEC, then he has a better or equal chance of making it to the NFL then if stayed in the AAC and running for 1000 yds every year. Either way, he's no longer here so life goes on.

This is really surprising. And I understand that people are excited and that is the goal. There is no question about that. However, we were 7-6 the last year. It seems a little far-fetched to go from that to winning the conference when we have never won a conference and going to the playoffs. I mean I really hope it’s right it just seems like a huge stretch.

We went from winning 1 game to winning 7 games the next year. If we can improve by 5-6 games, why is it so hard to win 3-4 more games than the year before?

This hands down is the ultimate statement that justifies kids hitting the portal.

    Didn't realize that. Thanks

Don't have much of a clue there, either, but Bryce Bernard hit the portal (think he's still gone) and I don't think Stokes will be our PK with Farrell backing him up. Looks like maybe had some fields shift on your sheet.

It was some field shifts, but Ill fix it when the new roster comes up or if any other transfer commit.

  15. I figure since the offseason training has started I might as well get it going now.  This a place for those to simply discuss our current team and use this thread as a place to drop off any content not big enough to have its own thread. That includes tweets, photos, and/or any fluff pieces. I will try to keep this spreadsheet updated as often as I can. Also please do not look too hard at where I placed the players. I’m not going hard on predicting any lineups.  I shall start it off with my first spreadsheet and some social media photos of our new players practicing.....Go Bulls! :04-rock:

    Notes:

    • I did a very casual count of the players so it might be off by a few.
    • I am not sure if Jason Vaughn is Hickman is coming back.
    • Don't forget, we have Bernard Gooden from Wake. Supposedly this man can ball.
