Hopefully Bench is the guy for the rest of the season.

Take your lumps with him and hope he progresses as he learns more of the offense.

At least he appears confident on the field...the other two meh...

I guess I am in the minority here but I would say after the Miami game you go with White. He has had enough time to have a good understanding of the system.  If you play Bench all year then you would be looking at him for two more years since he is only a soph. Give White the PT and let him gain the experience.  Being a red-shirt will not help him that much compared in game action.

Why waste a year on White when he may get killed by the inept offensive line? That makes no sense. If White is good enough to beat out Bench then he will do it. Just because Bench finishes out the year doesn't mean he is our guy. It just means hes the guy this year and hes the most ready. If White is the man I would rather save him for the next 4 years with a more competent offense. So yes a red shirt would help tremendously.

Well that is why I am in the minority.  If folks think White is our future and from what I have read he could be then I am not going to wait for a year to get him on the field.  I wouldn't feed him to the canes but after that let him play. Game experience > bench time.  Could he be any worse then what we have seen so far ?

I've been saying this too. He is practicing as the 4th string QB. it's a complete waste of a year. if he is the guy next year then he will have to gain that experience next year. it's like burning another entire year.

play him for 4 or 5 series against the lesser teams. it would be invaluable. much better than getting 4th string reps.

Playing White is ridiculous. No one plays a true freshman here and there to get them experience. If he was going to beat these other guys out he would have already done it.

But to waste a year for 'game experience', no way. Coaches don't like players getting game experience if you lose the game.

If he gave us a better chance to win then he'd be playing otherwise he isn't going to play just to see what it is like getting beat, or to practice against lesser competition. Not a good coaching plan.

So what you are saying is White is not as good as the 3 QBs that have already played and if that is true we really are in bad shape.

I noticed that to Toro - Bench did seem to be more in command of the offense then the other two.

there are tons of examples of coaches playing true freshman for them to gain experience. #1 passing offense in country is run by a true freshman.

tim tebow threw 33 passes his true freshman year to gain experience.

Miami's last 2 QBs were true freshman starters.

Penn State has had 2 in the last 5 years,.

Rutgers 3. BC 2. Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan have all had a true freshman starter within last 5 years.

not sure why people think playing 4th string scout QB is helpful in the least.

good coaches play true freshman in positions of need all the time. it's wise to plan for the future.

red shirting should be for depth or for injury only.  our last 2 QBs did not play their entire 4 years of eligibility because they used their red shirts for non injury purposes.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
