May be a work in progress but we'll have him for a while ... Initially out of the same place, Putnam Science Academy, Yetna came from.

But did he pray before making the decision? I'm going to hold off on my excitement if he's only coming here because he and his coaches figured it was the best basketball opportunity for him.

I heard he prayed 2 Hail Marys and 4 our father’s. But I think he picked his next school using a ouija board

Good highlight film. A few observations:

  • The mid-range jump shot will get him time on the floor as he can step out and knock down jumpers off of screens, while creating space for those to drive to the basket
  • He moves well without the basketball and does a great job of bending his knees which most big men don't do, but it translates into...
  • He plays smaller than his height and the lack straight up and down explosion was noticable
  • He brings the ball down too low and will make him a victim of getting the ball stripped or tied up
  • He appears to go exclusively to his right, so he'll need to develop some type of game going to his left in order for big men not to play him off of his right shoulder (straight up) or left hip (back to the basket)
  • No defensive highlights means we don't have any sense for his capabilities there and may speak to his limited minutes (speculative)

Didn't watch the film until after I read your analysis.  You nailed it.  Only thing I picked up on defense, or lack thereof, was when an announcer said WV was living down low.

I've wanted to post about Russel Tchewa for almost two weeks but the info I got on him was behind a paywall

A generic "we are looking at some big guys" would have at least eased some of my angst about that need....... and if you did do that, my bad.

Love how well he moves for a 7 footer over 250lbs. He's definitely very raw but that athleticism at that size is something you can't teach. Also this is kid has only been playing basketball for a few years. If Gregory and company can refine his game he could be a productive for us down the road.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
