Definitely NOT ready is what you mean. I know you did. Because he isn't. Even if he were he wasn't allowed to show it.

thanks-- fixed it above. I meant he was not ready for the NFL.

The thing that bugs me is the announcers who always talk about his history-- the whole 5 star QB and best QB recruit in the country stuff-- that was 5 years or more ago. That information is as important as how well he did in junior high at this point.

One of the things I used to like about CJL was finding gems in the recruiting process. He would usually find a couple of guys each class who were rated 2 stars and then became stars for USF. That is partially a weakness of the rivals rating system itself (i.e. if an SEC team is recruiting you, you suddenly get a star bump) but also showed he understood talent levels. not sure why I just thought of that--- moving on.

Neither here nor there, but the recruiting stars system has been proven, multiple times over multiple years, to be incredibly more accurate than people want to give it credit for. However, BB is definitely an example of a miss for the system.

I'm not saying the rating system isn't worth paying attention to-- it is pretty accurate. But some of the bigger schools impact how certain players get rated. Perhaps it is a respect for those teams ability to evaluate talent.

as for Barnett-- I do not doubt he earned that 5 star rating. But ratings are about potential and have an expiration date.

This. I don’t think there is anyone on this board who would rather have a three star than a five recruit.

He's the best QB we have so I definitely hope he stays. He hasn't shown near enough to get drafted so I don't know where he would go besides FCS or retirement....

Leavitt also had the knack for recruiting a few trouble makers.  I distinctly remember one Brainiac who kept getting arrested for driving without a valid drivers license.  The reason his drivers license was not valid was because he was not paying child support.  I wish I could remember his name, but I think he might have been a backup QB?

There were a few others with various legal issues, and the overall GPA of the football team was lower during Leavitt's tenure.

It is legitimate to criticize Holtz on his on the field record, but he did get the team GPA up, and that continued under Taggart and Strong.

You are referring to Brian Fisher- a wildcat back who was the center of the infamous Voodoo Five offense (his number was 5)  iirc

Most of his trouble was due to continuing to drive on his suspended license and getting caught doing so.

probably best to let the dead horse stay buried lol
