Brett Kean named USF's backup quarterback

Joey Knight, Times Staff Writer

Tuesday, August 23, 2016 9:41pm

TAMPA — Bulls coach Willie Taggart confirmed Tuesday morning what spring practices and recent scrimmages seemed to suggest: redshirt freshman Brett Kean is his backup quarterback.

Kean, who guided Ohio's St. Edward High to a state title in 2014, exited spring practice at No. 2 on the depth chart and remained there as recently as Saturday night's closed scrimmage. According to the Bulls' official Twitter feed, he directed at least two touchdown drives in that 120-play situational rehearsal.

"Brett has had an outstanding camp; really, really stepped it up," said Taggart, whose team practiced in shells Tuesday morning, when feel-like temperatures eclipsed 100 degrees. "I think … not necessarily surprised all of us, but really impressed all of us."

Great to have the depth.

Good for the team to have this solidified.

No one published Kean and AW's QBR, leads me to believe CWT is playing favorites.

Why the hell does this have its own thread?

Should this be in the rumors and tweets thread?

CWTs dislike of any QB not named QF is no rumor

I totally agree.  AW is being set as an example to all those who dare to spurn our program.  Kean is clearly a pawn in this evil scheme.

Clearly he did the same thing with Bench (who ignored us from Pennsylvania) but now the pattern is clear.

Exactly it's all about revenge for skipping out on us for UCLA.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
