Quote

Jefferson High's Jean Marcellus is a highly-touted offensive lineman. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound senior is listed as one of the top 100 players in the state by 247Sports. He has offers from Division I-A schools such as Georgia Tech, Miami and Mississippi State.

But when Marcellus announced his college plans on July 25, he spurned schools from major conferences and committed to USF.

Marcellus is not the only one who stayed local. Less than a week after Marcellus' decision, two of his high school teammates — defensive lineman J'Bril Glaze and athlete Jermaine Eskridge —pledged their allegiance to the Bulls.

Eskridge might have been the biggest coup. The junior is rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and has offers from Alabama, Florida and Ohio State.

USF's summer haul of bay area prospects also includes Hillsborough High running back Duran Bell and Armwood defensive back Mekhi LaPointe, who led the state in interceptions last year with 10.

After years of watching recruits from the fertile bay area basin turn elsewhere, the Bulls have amped up their efforts and are starting to retain as much top talent as possible.

It worked with Marcellus

... there's a bunch more. Give it a read. It's a good article.

This is a great article. We needed this good exposure. Good things on the horizon for USF football.

Put a fence around the Bay! Well maybe not totally but it's great to get some of these recruits to think twice. If they do what they could do this year it should help this ideal even more! Really hope CWT is here for the long haul! The guys really connect with him and the staff.

So did Skip if I recall.  CWT was able to make it happen.

I think Taggart is in for the long haul. He has mad pride in the area, and if he makes USF a powerhouse, he can have the USF legacy all to himself. I dont think he will leave USF unless he gets an offer from a powerhouse program like Texas or Miami Me personally, while being a P5 school would be great, if we dont get in we can still have success. Boise State has had more success in the past decade than a majority of these P5 programs and had BCS success. To me, its easier now b/c you dont have to get voted in the National title game, just the playoffs. Hell if we win a National title while not in the P5 that would be equivalent to back to back rings b/c its such a harder path. I think Taggart will stay put and become the Tampa version of Bobby Bowden/Spurrier lol

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
