  1. Rodney is a very talented kid. The Vikings are stacked at WR unfortunately.

I would really like to see him get another shot in the NFL. He’s a classy young man and an electric player. I wish him the best.

He is the best receiver in USF history in my humble opinion.

He was talking about Austin Peay's coach not UCiF's

Ahhhhh...you are right. I just re-read it. I thought they were talking about hiring UCF coach.

Either way, any talk of getting rid of Strong is absurd. College football is about recruiting. We will be hard pressed to get a better recruiter than CCS any time soon.

So this Austin Peay team played well despite the crazy looking score - looked a little more into them - we should hire there coach when CCS moves on.

Most coaches leave a program for a step up. USF would be a lateral move at best, and could be argued a small step back. I don’t see him having any interest here.

  4. Reporter: “Coach, what’s are your thoughts on the offensive execution?”

Coach John McKay: “I’m all for it”

One of the great quotes of all time and very fitting. This offensive game plan needs to be taken out back and shot. That sh**ty draw play every 1st down was making me crazy. This offense makes CWT’s first year look like the Greatest Show on Turf.

Which is partly why they are gone now.  An OCS 10 years ago would be making a big difference today.  An OCS today will be making a big difference 10 years from now.

EXACTLY! No OCS means there will never be any tradition.

That fact that this is not universally understood on this board will never cease to amaze me.

And no, I don’t have a “link” to support this view. It is just painfully obvious to me.

Don't you know that an OCS is a panacea?  It will increase attendance, get us into a P5 conference, double the US GDP, cure dandruff, etc.

This is the attitude that makes me crazy. Some people just want to be contrarian. Good use of sarcasm, props to you. Bad use of any actual thought.

Have you been to an actual campus that has a stadium on it? It’s night and day.

The ridiculousness of a “homecoming game” at Ray Jay is enough to drive me crazy. None of us attended classes at the Ray Jay. I never took an economics class at the Mons Venus. I never had a statistics class at the Burger King on the corner. That area has NOTHING to do with The University of South Florida.

There is no effing tradition at Ray Jay. There NEVER will be. Plain and simple. God**mn some of you people are really not paying attention to the big picture.

Lee Roy was an incredible man, Jim Leavitt built the program, Skippy nearly destroyed it, Willie got us back and Charlie is the best possible person we could have right now, make no mistake.

Some of you should stick to talking about flamingos, wizards, and Publix subs. Because anyone with any love for the program, and college football in general, could deny the importance of an OCS.

  7. The University of South Florida needs to do whatever they can to keep Coach Charlie Strong.

This man is a helluva coach and clearly a great recruiter. The time is now. We will NEVER get a better recruiter for the state of Florida than CCS. An OCS is clearly an important point for Coach Strong. Important enough that he mentioned it at his initial press conference.

This absolutely needs to happen, and something needs to be announced soon. I believe the only way that we keep him for more than another year or two is to get this thing in motion.

We will never have a better opportunity to become a big time program than right now. When you catch lightning in a bottle you need to capitalize on it.

If/when Coach Strong leaves it will set this program back to a place that will be tough to recover from.

Coach Willie Taggart was a gift, he was a rare local guy that was a great recruiter. A guy ready to make a name for himself and show the world of college football what he could do. He set this program up for success and brought excitement back.

The fact that we got CCS right after CWT left was a once in a lifetime stroke of luck and opportunity. USF needs to capitalize on it. They need to capitalize now.

Work with Jeff Vinick, do whatever it takes. We need to get started on “The House That Charlie Built”.

  8. OCS.....it’s so obvious. Build the f-ing stadium. Make some tradition on campus. I’ve heard all the arguments against it and I don’t care. If we don’t want to look like a Mikey Mouse program we need to build a stadium. I don’t care if we were in the SEC. Ray Jay is not, and never will be, the Bulls stadium.

Oh yeah, Joey Galloway called the fans out too....saying “all 4,000 of them are upset with the false starts.”

  9. It seems to me like Charlie Strong is making a statement with the uniforms. The statement being, "let's focus on football and not the uniforms."

I also have to believe that the Gold helmet, Green jersey, Green pants combo is no coincidence. To me that was our classic uni combo back in the day. Granted, the Gold has now changed to Gold/Chrome, and the pants now have stripes etc.

I'm guessing that CSS remembers the old unis and may be trying to bring back tradition.

Also, since the school that basically started the different uni every game concept was Oregon, I think CSS wants to be the opposite of that since CWT went there.

I have no facts to support this, but it makes sense to me.

Harlan hasn't done anything much besides getting CCS to USF. He's made some nice looking hires in non revenue sports but that's not how ADs are judged. It wouldn't be a huge loss imo.

If he did nothing but get CSS to USF he did a lot. That was the biggest score possible at the biggest possible time.

I hate to see anyone leave while we've got some positive momentum going. That said, I'm glad he got us CSS before he leaves, if that's what in fact happens.

I guess I could always just say things with no basis in truth whatsoever and pass it off as insight.

We aren't even in UA's top 10. If you're looking for their version of Oregon, it's Maryland. UA is based there and the company's founder is a former Maryland player. Do your homework.

    That's better

The remark about not having a passionate fan base stings a little.  This interview is also available in podcast form on The Campus Rush.  Lindsay Schnell does a good job on it

Sometimes the truth does hurt. A 1/3 full NFL stadium with red seats, a pirate ship, and a band so far away that you can barely hear them is quite a bit different than a sea of neon green and yellow with 54,000 packed in.

Their stadium used to seat 41,000. They developed a passionate fan base and a brand then expanded to 54,000. (Yeah Nike doesn't hurt)

Instead of us being offended we should look at them as a good example of a brand and experience to emulate. We are already like UA's version of "Oregon" with all the different unis etc.

If we don't do something to change it we can kiss CSS goodbye in a few years too and he will say the same thing when he leaves.

What is it about that data that has you convinced that an OCS will crippled USF?

I see them at #59. UCF at #55.  A lot of well known programs ranked below us, most, if not all, on the list have an OCS.

Revenue and expenses are tight but that seems to be very common up and down the list.

I don't think this data as presented tells much of anything.

Who would have thought that the strongest OCS proponent on this board is a Memphis fan...

Great point. It speaks to the apathy of the Tampa Bay sports community and many on this board unfortunately.

Keep fighting the good fight Memphis. Wear a helmet, you will feel like you are beating your head against the wall.

It never ceases to amaze me when I check in on this thread.

  15. It all just seems like a cop out to me. If Ray Jay is the standard which the new OCS will be measured against then there will never be an OCS.

The idea that people won't go to games because it's not as nice as Ray Jay is incomprehensible to me.

First, find an article about donor levels and that may clear things up for you a little. Second, for better or worse, our season tix fan base has grown up in a first class football stadium. While it doesn't have to be a mini RayJay, it can't be the glorified high school stadiums of some of these programs you keep throwing at us have. To put it bluntly, we've got champagne tastes on a wine cooler budget. Harlan will have to be a 100 times the miracle worker he was to get CCS here to make something happen anytime soon on the ocs front.

THIS is the real problem. When it comes to an OCS, I don't care if it's made on a "wine cooler budget". I just want it to be on campus. That's where college games should be played.

If you have an article about donor levels, that would be a very nice bit of information for this thread. Perhaps you could post it/them.

Your implication is that you've read one or more of these articles. Based on half of the posts on this thread, they must have read the same article(s). It must say we are the poorest University in the country.

    I call B.S.

  17. Best of luck Marlon. You were my 6 year old sons and 10 year old daughters favorite player. You were first class at the Green and Gold spring game signing autographs for them, along with the rest of your teammates. It's a memory they will never forget.

We will be watching you on Sundays and rooting for you! You are a tremendous talent and by all accounts a first class young man.

You will always be remembered as a key part to our programs resurgence. Best of luck on the next level. Go Bulls!
