The Cincinnati coaching staff continues their success in the JUCO ranks by flipping USF commit DB Howard Wilder (Pierce CC).
“Cincinnati really came out of nowhere,†Wilder said. “They contacted me after I committed to South Florida and invited me on a visit.â€
“It was my first time in Ohio. It was cool. I loved everything about the visit so I committed to the Bearcats. They’re going to the top.â€
As of now, Wilder has nothing planned for the upcoming weekend.
“I don’t have any other scheduled visits. If a new school wants to talk, I will deal with that then,†Wilder said. “Right now, I’m committed to Cincinnati.â€
Wilder committed to USF on January 15 and had taken official visits to both Houston and Tampa in December.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect with reported 4.44 forty speed has an impressive offer sheet.
“Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky, Rutgers, Maryland and a bunch of other schools offered me,†Wilder said. “I felt like Cincinnati and the Big East was the place for me. The coaching staff is great.â€
“I will be going to Cincinnati in May.â€
Wilder starred at Eleanor Roosevelt High School (MD) and earned the nickname "Little Derrick†because of his similarities to the former Maryland prep star that signed with Penn State in 2009 before later transferring to Marshall where he started eight games at cornerback last season.
As a high school senior, one publication rated Wilder as the No. 90 best college prospect in Maryland.
The 2012 1st team all-conference cornerback started his college career at College of the Canyons (CA) where he was a starter and made 49 stops before transferring to Pierce Community College (CA) last season where he recorded 45 tackles and had one interception.
Wilder plans to study business management while at Cincinnati and has three years to play two.
