  1. The worst thing that has happened to CJS - besides not winning - is the fact that USF football has proven in past examples that it doesn’t take an eternity to build a competitive team with our program if done right.

Regardless of those that say “we don’t have a winning culture,” CJL was able to build literary from nothing to a competitive BCS team - with no OCS, IPF, mass financial support, etc. - while only have two losing seasons in 13 years. CWT also came in to incredibly similar circumstances to CJS - a downward spiral of a once good team - to build a competitive double-digit win ranked football team through basically recruiting alone starting year 3. Had the examples of CJL and CWT never happened, then maybe the fanbase would be satisfied with being perpetual losers with no hope, but history has shown that is not the case. The football team under CJS, though he’s a nice guy, just seems like it has no hope. Did some fans in the prediction contest actually pick Temple to beat us? Worst of all, it might actually happen - year 3 into a coaching tenure. To think there isn’t a head coach in the lower levels willing to move to Tampa Bay and lead USF to moderate success the way CJS has shown he is unable to do is shortsighted.

  2. If CJS is able to turn around his fortunes into a winning head football coach, it might be the greatest turnaround in sports history, and Michael Kelly will seem like a genius. But just because someone is a nice guy, doesn't mean they're a good head coach. How does it go...'you are what your record says you are.'

2 - 18 from 3?  Glad I didn't renew. We cancelled our trip up north for the Temple game. Wife says tonight "There's a free exhibition game tonight". I said "That's nice". We didn't go. Only games I may see this year are the double headers with the women's games.

Sad to hear this, but I don't blame you. I hope things are able to turn around so that athletics is able to maintain contributors of your level. Would be detrimental to lose that kind of support in large numbers.

He is good at fundraising, just imagine the level of donations if we actually won something.

What, you mean like win 2 whole FBS games in three years against a team not named Temple? Dude, lower your expectations. To expect a head coach to be able to put together a relatively competitive FBS team in the AAC in three years while recruiting talent to come play D1 football and receive an education at a research-heavy pre-eminent state university located in Tampa Bay is unreasonable. It's not like we're located in a hotbed for high school football like Tulsa, Oklahoma or Greenville, N.C. So what if Taggart was able to do it in 2.5 years, it probably is something impossible to do ever again. If you think otherwise, you probably hate USF football and want it to fail. These conversations are for real fans only.

Also, the emperor's skin-colored robe looks awesome on him.

  5. Ok so if 4 of USF most important teams  (including the top two) are having/had historically bad seasons - according to Dave, maybe things have gotten better in the last two weeks? Idk. Definitely not for football - then does that not mean USF athletics is having a historically bad year?

INB4 - “What makes football and men’s bball so important??? That’s subjective.”

If you argue that I’m done.

Will Healy is out at Charlotte. Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters...

Jeff Scott, South Florida: The Bulls fell to 1-6 after last week's 14-point home loss to Tulane, one of the nation's most improved teams. South Florida has shown a bit more zest on offense, but its defense simply can't stop opponents on a consistent basis. Scott's record sits at an unsightly 4-24 (1-17 in AAC play). The team still has three road games left, plus the home finale against 5-1 UCF. It's hard to see things turning around for Scott, or any path back for him in 2023.”

    Lol, and yet…

I can live with most of this, except, CWT was able to recruit. He sent guys to the NFL with those same facilities and infrastructure issues. Yes, he left, but if we hired Heupel instead of Strong, where would we be? Assume he would have stayed here until the same time he left for Tenn, so we would have had to hire another coach then... the point is, if you continue to hire good coaches, you can sustain success. We have consistently hired poorly.

College football is about the coach and qb. A great coach can find and or develop a QB (or a system that works with the QB they can find).

I would personally fire Scott tomorrow. My wish list would be Leavitt or CWT. If you're just holding the fire hose, those guys can do it and actually win some games I think. Let one of the guys that built the building hold the hose that is trying to put out the fire.

Nailed it. The buck stops at VPMK and his hiring decision-making. As another poster pointed out, USF athetics as a whole - sans W BBall - is having a historically bad year and all the coaches got extended. Just makes you scratch your head in disbelief.
