Can you recruit players to play in a system you are not currently running?  You have to make the transition sometime.  Some of these players will fit with the current system and some won't but they are all gifted athletes so presumably they can adapt over time.

  2. We're gonna get crushed

We are going to get crushed.  People need to wake up with this optimism.  We just got blown our by FAU and a AA team.  Miami will eat our lunch.

Maybe he is taking 2 weeks to change offensive styles that fit his players and give the team a chance to win.

I think this would be counter productive.  We need to get better at the offense we will be running in the long run.  Besides, there is no offensive scheme that get's our team a W over Miami next week.

  3. I can see what CWT is trying to do here... with the formations, the play calling, the (newfound) effort on defense. At one point last game, I felt that the D was truely leaving it all on the field. I literally got goosebumps because I saw a hint (a HINT) of what reminded me of the D we've been missing for years. It didn't last long, but I felt that we were starting to really click a bit on defense.

Observing the offense, you can really see where CWT wants to go with the gameplan... unfortunately we just aren't in sync (on almost any level). Part of that is the QB situation (a recruiting blunder that we can't blame on CWT). Part of it is the constant rotation of quarterbacks... the receiver-quarterback connection that Davis recently mentioned... then there is the younger players we're sending in... the new playbook... But you can see where CWT wants to go and tell that, if those plays were executed properly, they would've worked.

It's these things that give me hope for a few wins this season... but also keeps me grounded. We can't recover from the Holtz Era overnight. This season is truely a "rebuilding" season. I do think we'll click a little bit later, but the important thing is that we (the fans) stay cool and understand what CWT is working with. Also, praise Shaw. He's surely the brightest spot on the season so far.

    GO BULLS

Good post.  I see it too.  We are not there yet but I see game plan and I like it.

It's sinful that a public school is spending this much on athletics when they aren't even in a top conference.

What's crazy is that we wouldn't be having this conversation if the football team did what is was supposed to do.  Win two football games, at home, against two cupcakes.  If I was DW, I would be in CWT's office constantly asking what he could provide to assist CWT and the rest of the team to be successful.  I guarantee that it hasn't and won't happen.  CWT has probably already gotten the DW cold shoulder, which is what poor leaders do when the chips are down............distance yourself (teflon) so the stink doesn't get on you.  I'm sick of it.

You should apply for the job whenever it opens next.

  5. I think this sums it up best.

2010 record 8-5 approximately 20% of team holtz recruits

2011 record 5-7 approximately 40% of team holtz recruits

2012 record 3-9 approximately 60% of team holtz recruits

2013 record 0-3 approximately 80% of team holtz recruits

you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig

Regardless of the recruiting angle the record speaks for itself.

If you are happy with what Holtz did to this program you are lonely.

    ^^^

    That's funny.

You must have good contacts on the inside to know that

What's really important is that those running the program (AD, et al) were those responsible for the allegation and how they chose to have it investigated.

I know the law, it's been grilled into me at my current job by the corporate attorneys.  Nothing will get the attention of the feds faster from an employment perspective than retaliation.

But how was Woolard responsible fro the allegation?  I don't follow.   Did he contact McMurphy?  Did he give the story to the players to carry out?  I'm not sure what you are mean when you say "responsible for the allegation".

Woolard didn't choke a kid.  Leavitt did plateau.  I am grateful to his contributions but he was not getting us to the next level.  If you were happy with the level that Leavitt consistently proved to be his high water mark then pine away.

I am not sure what people are so upset about.

At any point this off season or over the last couple of weeks you thought we would be good or go bowling your expectations were very far off.  We are rebuilding, we are going through Skip detox we are not good right now.

We will not be good for a couple of years.  We can all hope for things to click and for us to go on a run towards the end of the year.

This game turned last night when the ball was almost touching the goal line and we couldn't score.  The fourth down call brought back nightmares from UConn and VooDoo 5

this was the head scratcher to me and agree it was the turning point. Running wide would have been my last choice. Is there a thing as being too close to the goal line for a fade? We have got some huge wr's/te's so why not utilize them there ...

I think we ran wide because we tried up the middle a couple of times and Shaw did not have the power.  If he weighed 20 more lbs he would have scored on the first down run IMO.

I would not run a fade with our QB's. It is a solid call for that situation, just not for this team.

I still think we should have tried up the middle but I understand the call.

Then they should have ran up the middle with Pierre.

Probably.  It almost seemed like they were trying to reward Shaw...idk.

  9. Not having been a college football fan till USF got a team (were it a factor I would have gone to Florida in the early 90s), I have to ask, "How can a coach effectively recruit with a 0-12 record? " I don't care what vision you have, it's got to be hard to sell a kid on the great things your program is doing with a record like that.

The program has been set so far back it's sickening . I was on the lines fighting for a team and recall the excitement when it was announced.

Historically, have any teams gone from winless to champions... and how long did it take? My sense is that the road back could be longer than the initial building process.

Willie will sell them on the chance to start and contribute right away.  These players were recruited mostly by Skip and are not necessarily suited for Willies scheme and expectations of them.

Most of the problems I saw yesterday was from poor O-line play.  Pass blocking to be more specific.  Yes our QB's are lacking but they are also running for their lives back there as soon as the ball is snapped.

There have been some improvements from week 1 in other areas of the that I don't hear discussed much.

Our special teams have improved, our defense has improved and  started to show some swagger last night.  We are running successfully on first down even when they knew we were going to run on.  That is called "imposing our will" something Willie talked about.

    We'll get there.
