They're 0-3 in conference while collecting twice as much money that as a fan, I'd never see ... racking up 4-star commits that I guess is cool in a D&D sort of way ... playing and losing to relevant teams weekly ... and building their national brand by giving up 60 unanswered points over two straight games.

Honestly, I expect them to eventually do okay in the Big 12 but I just don't suscribe to the "it's better getting your ass kicked in a higher conference" thingy ..... losing sucks.

I dunno -- I'd rather be getting my ass kicked by 4-1 Kansas than 1-4 UAB. I'd rather be making $50 million in revenue vs $9 million. I'd rather have the #28 recruiting class than the #56 recruiting class. I think the ceiling is higher in the Big 12 than the AAC. A 10 win AAC team is going to get less national attention than even an 8 win Big 12 team. Most news outlets only focus on power conference teams. The question was do I find solace in the fact that UCF is not succeeding in the Big 12. The answer is no -- this is a temporary setback. I'd rather be struggling to find my footing in a power conference than trading blowouts with the dregs of FBS. The advantages they're gaining by being in a better conference outweigh the growing pains now. If you'd ask them if they'd prefer to go back to the AAC, I'm sure the answer would be hell no.

I prefer to just ignore UCF, but does anyone else take solace that Kansas hammered UCF and that UCF has yet to win a conference game?

Solace in what way? Like, does it make me feel better about the fact that we're in a watered down G5 conference that's fighting for relevancy and got spanked by a rebuilding team that's one year removed from CUSA under a first-time head coach in front of one of the emptiest stadiums in college football? Not really. Or do I feel better that they're 0-2 in the conference while collecting twice as much money than in the AAC, racking up 4-star commits, playing relevant teams weekly, and building their national brand? Not really.

At least we are better than ucf! Sucks to be them...

Are we though? Not sure losing by 21 to a nobody team in an empty stadium is much better than losing by 31 to a power conference team. At least they’re earning big TV dollars and racking up 4 star recruits. We’re getting embarrassed by a team that is only a couple years removed from shutting down their program and are in the conference as an afterthought because we lost three meaningful teams to realignment.

It is either this guy is Bear Bryant or the last guy was the worst coach in the history of college sports, I am thinking closer to option 2 however CAG has been impressive. This team shows up prepared and hungry which was the polar opposite of the last few years.

Could be both. ICJS is objectively one of the worst head coaches of the past 30+ years — he had a 0.133 record, took a bad team and made it worse, and failed to show any improvement after 3 seasons.

On the other hand, CAG took that team, tuned it up with transfers, and looks to have completely overhauled the culture and attitude of the football program. With any luck, after today CAG will have exceeded the win total of the entire CJS tenure midway through his first year.

  5. Sanders is name-brand Willie Taggart. He can recruit above his weight class, run an offense, but lives and dies by the shoot out. Can build a program but gets out coached in the big games or lacks the wherewithal to win as an underdog. Wouldn’t go so far as to say we got the better coach out of the deal, yet. Golesh has made some dumb calls so far…
