I guess I failed to mention this, but you all helped capture...he gets to continue to pursue his dream while developing as a player AND being able to provide for his family. If they really like him they he can make even more. I really hope he gets to be ahead of the financial rat while pursuing his dreams. Save up and be smart about your money, nothing but positive vibes from back home Q!

I will say this team has a very high ceiling (undefeated in a big bowl) if everything clicks and we avoid injury. At the same time if a couple things go sideways we could very easily be fighting for our bowl lives (QB's disappoint the middle of the defense has a big drop off from Senat, Hector, and Sanchez leaving). Seasons like this are the most exciting because of how many unknowns we have.

I saw that during the game but didnt put it together!
Nice post!

I don't think GT cares how many we have in the box. They're going to run the option. If we don't fill gaps properly we're going to have an extremely worn out defense by the 4th qtr.
Yes, it wont change their offensive scheme, but it will change where they run.
I hope we have a run game to control some clock bc the hurry up O was fast against Elon.

I think the coaches let the players played to see how they do individually and then make adjustments after the first real game.
Plus, Elon had huge people. I was very surprised by their size on offense. When you come up against that size and you don't scheme well, you get pushed around. That's what happened to us.
I think that's the point some of us are trying to make...DL is undersized and didnt get much push against Elon. While our typical set wont be 4-5 men at the line, we will need them for GT and other run heavy offenses. I expect to see 7 in the box on our D and GT challenging us up the gut to take advantage...
I think our DL is going to put a lot of pressure on our LB core, and the LB are going to have to step up to make up for our weakness at DL. As @Bull Dozer mentioned Hector and Senat are hard to replace. I hope I am wrong but that's the one thing I noticed against Elon.

I haven't seen anyone overacting other than the slight overreaction regarding any critic
I saw Nickel, 4 and 3 on the line etc against Elon...
3 down line men have to be even meaner than 4 men down, no matter the blitz package...particularly for run game.
Nickel type D is great for pass heavy O though...

Looks like no rookie made the active roster and those who made the active roster were on the practice squad before.
He's on track to be on the practice squad. That's around $120-130k at minimum for work from Sept-Jan. Wishing him the best!!

IMO this is not a matter of playing a vanilla D. For a 3-4 or 4-3 D to work those DT need to be nasty. They appeared to get pushed around by Elon and I dont recall their QB being rushed or pressured by the D line...

I looked at depth chart for last year and avg weight was 271 lbs...lost weight in middle some but DE are bigger. Our second string DT Barber is 260lbs but a freshman.
Our first stringers did pretty good after first drive in first half. That was a vanilla defense we ran also.
2018 Front Four:
DE #4 Reaves 6'2" 248 lbs, RS JR
DT #90 Kegler 6'2" 284 lbs, SO
DT #99 Bronson 6'4" 282 lbs, RS SR
DE #94 Livingstone 6'4" 263 lbs, RS JR
Looking at these guys out on the field yesterday I would guess they have trimmed up and are lighter than those listed weights. I am particularly worried about our ability to put pressure up the middle i.e. DT.

@JimUSFSig was in the bulls pen chat during the game with some of our other TBP vets and we chatted about the D Line quite a bit (or at least I did ).
I noticed how small we looked up front and how our D line looked like LBs. I took the liberty of calculating our starting D Line's size:
AVG Weight = 269 lbs
AVG Height = 6'3"
I am concerned as well I think we are going to get pushed around up front all year long. As @George_Bullnard_Shaw or @slick1ru2 mentioned during the chat, we might have to rely on outscoring our opponents to win games this year. IMO we will be in a shootout against GT next Saturday...

It always helps when your name is Lane Kiffin ... even more so when you win your conference.
Does Charlie Strong not count for something?

Saw this http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2017/12/if_the_ducks_stay_in-house_wit.html
I thought the Cristobal vs Leavitt poll result was kind of interesting...I also voted and skewed the results to the current coach that is lower in the poll ;-)

I mentioned that in his thread on the recruiting board earlier.
For those who don't know, Jerome ford is NOT a USF commit. He is a very good local player who we would love to get. Alabama is supposedly leading for him at the moment. USF was leading for him in the summer and we might still land him.
UCF should be more worried about Frost stealing THEIR commits, like Taggart did to us.
According to BM, Frost has already told some UCF tcommits that he will be recruiting them to Nebraska.
Meanwhile, the best UCF commit is really pissed off from being lied to by Frost.
Frost apparently knew he was taking the Nebraska job right after their Temple game and lied to recruits about that.
So, we may very well end up poaching some current UCF commits.
I certainly haven't been following the recruiting trails but according to this article he has 'publicly named USF as the leader'...i guess your info is more up to date.?

Tell those guys to take their official visits during January or February. That will cool them to Neb pretty quickly

I expect that we will be the betting favorite. I'm sure that will surprise many of their fans.
The Vegas Line for our game will show up on the link below, when it is set:

Will be interested to see how the line opens

Makes u wonder how the rest of the P5 fans view us and maybe we are irrational in our green and gold goggles

In general all P5 thinks like this...
It was funny earlier this year I told a colleague we were playing Illinois and he was like 'o that's a 'big' name uni'...and implied that they will be a tough game...I was like no they suck and I expect us to win.
In general that is the same thing I find in my research/profession...its a form of elitism that exist among the have and have nots. It's pretty primitive honestly...

Seems like not all their fans are dumb ;-)
I expect us to show up and surprise them!
Not firing Kliff was a terrible shortsighted emotional decision. We will be exposed by USF but it will be too late to get into the coaching carousel.

A few sentiments seem to resonant though for their fans
- it's a lose-lose situation for them
- we are a nobody

Games to Watch Week 4

So Illi got spanked by Penn State looking at the highlights. Was the game closer than the highlights indicate?
