1. From Brett's story today: TAMPA - Winthrop's Gregg Marshall, who led the Eagles to seven NCAA Tournaments in nine seasons, has emerged as the leading candidate to become coach at the University of South Florida. Marshall met with USF athletic director Doug Woolard Tuesday night in Rock Hill, S.C. As of late Wednesday night, Marshall was deciding whether to come to Tampa or accept a $400,000 a year offer to stay at Winthrop, which would be nearly half of what USF would offer.
2. Brett does not where a cheerleader skirt and shake pom-poms for the school. He is a reporter and reports the news. Sometimes the news is bad. Deal with it. My sentiments exactly
3. Note the date: This was written before the 2004 season.
4. With all respect, that's naive. That agreement is a marketing ploy, done by marketing people. It has nothing to do with news coverage - pro or con.
5. Do we only judge papers by whether they root, root, root for the home team? Get serious. This just in: That's not their job. It's not either paper's job to promote, cheer, or otherwise fawn. That's what web sites are for. Think what you want, but no one is more wired in to USF than Brett, and the Trib provides much more coverage than the Times. Always has. Greg does OK, but where are the other stories and columns?
6. This is interesting, considering all the angst last year over how bad the BE was and what a joke it was to have the conference in the BCS. Then again, there's so much parity in college football, no one should be surprised at what's happened.
7. The Trib had real good coverage on this game today. That was great to see.
8. It was good to see the Bulls roll a mediocre team (Norfolk St.) in a manner befitting a Big East team. Looks like these two can really play, and if any team and coach needed a bit of good luck, it's these guys.
9. It would have been even better if Romano had actually been at the game. I think the Trib had a column on the game in Sunday's paper.
