  1. Penn St. is a far cry from what they use to be in the Northeast. PSU use to own NJ, NY and any other spot in the Northeast. PSU used to get an averaged about 5 to 6 Jersey kids a year without trying, but that's not the case anymore. In '06 PSU got one Jersey kid and this year 0. PSU has moved more into Maryland where they are doing well, but have more competition with Terps and other ACC schools. Even getting the few kids NY produces is harder than ever.
  2. Wow, do you speak just to hear yourself? 17 of 22? More like 14 retuners for next year. Then again, people like are some of the dullest knives in the draw for a reason. ;D
  3. You can't use that woulda shoulda coulda because it goes both ways. What if KU did something better at the end of the season that they couldn't when they played USF? How about RU who developed a passing game towards the end of the season that made their offense much more explosive.
  4. I guess ESPN doesn't think to highly of Schiano's rankings or of his recruiting class.  According to Smazz's logic... Rutgers is pathetic. ESPN is about as reliable as Weapons of Mass Destruction being found in Iraq. They rely on Scout.com for their info and rankings, but the problem is Scout ranked the Big East higher on its list team for team. ESPN has RU at 64, but Scout has them at 26 and Rivals has them at 37. Anyway, I felt the ranking for USF, UL and RU were too low for ESPN, but whatever.
  5. See WVU game. USFMikeB Thanks for quoting me, but USF fans said the same thing this year about USF at home against RU, what happened? I know using the 2point win was bad, but so was the 14 win at RU the year before. In truth neither one of us can't predict the future about RU and USF, but that's the beauty of this whole thing. I love how we can go on and on about this without being nasty towards one another. Best of luck to USF next season.
  6. USFgrad84 I do agree with you on Leonard and Harris, but USF will be without the starting receiving corp. (all 3 starters-2WRs-1TE) and one of them is your leading receiver in yards/catches/TDs. That is the same as a Harris and Leonard. Plus USF will be a lineman short too and the running game wasn't the strongest to start last year. Other USF posters talk about Ford being the one to come in and change the running game to help USF surpass RU for next year. Well, has anyone seen the recruits for RU they have to plug in for lost players? A. Davis is like the #2 or #3 O-lineman in the country. RU is losing some quality players, but what they are getting back are players further along talent wise before they enter college. Also, I'm not sure what RU fans you're talking about? Any knowledgeable fan knows how RU plays their 2 deep and realize they will be just fine. The perfect example of that was after the '05 season when RU lost 3 starting d-line men (4 total) and every news group said the sky was falling, but the real RU fan knew better. This talk was after a 7-5 season and a bowl appearance. Gone were 4 d-linemen with 32 of RU 50 total sacks. News people knew about Meekins coming back with his 9 sacks, but no one said a about Westerman (a backup) with his 6 sacks, or Foster, or Beckford or incoming frosh talent G. Johnson. Coach Schiano had said his d-line would be better because of the depth and greater talent. Foster went on to be all-BE and AA in publications. Westerman was all-BE performer and G. Johnson was good enough to take Beckford starting job even though Beckford had 5 sack after 8 games. Johnson is considered by Schiano to be the best DE returning on the team for next year even though Westerman is a returning all-BE player. Plus he plays as the 4th LB when RU goes to a 3/4 look. Meekins is being replace by the #1 DT (W. Thomas) in the state of NJ. This is the type of player RU would never get in the past. Instead this type of Jersey kid would be playing as true frosh at Penn St., ND, or Wisconsin. I'm sure USF has the same situations that outsiders like me don't know about. I believe that is one of the reasons why USF fans are so high on their team for next year. That same holds true for RU. My entire point is how I get a kick out of some of the people here trying or wishing for failure in order to pass RU. I for one think RU will continue to climb, but I wish for USF to climb too...just not against RU when the play. ;D I want USF to get better and add creditability to the BE. I'm tire of others crapping on RU, UL, USF, or WVU because we are all in the BE. I can't wait 'til USF ****s on Auburn next year. The more we can build top 25 teams in USF, RU, UL and WVU the better the confernce. We talk more about where everyone will place in the BE in August/Sept. when we all have a better handle on the rosters. 8-)
  7. I dont know why u dont think we can.  I cant see them being any better then this year and we only lost by 2 Think about that statement, "we only lost by 2" and this was after winning by 14 the year before at RU. See a trend going here...RU close the gap and went ahead. It should have been an easy victory for USF at home after the easy win at RU's place. Now what leads you to believe USF will win at RU when RU has made losing at home a tough place with the 12th man atmosphere that has developed.
  8. Raise the Bull**** flag.  USF did this 2 years ago, they can do it again.  RU will be on a rebuilding year, yeah they'll carry some momentum into next year, but they loose too many starters to expect a repeat performance.  twillybull show me where RU loses more than USF in starters and backups? One person on here stated that and everyone just started repeating it without checking to see if its true...well its not. USF returns 16 starters and RU returns 14, but RU has more in the 2 deep coming back than USF. Also, it is now hard to win at RU because of the home field advantage they are building there. Sometimes a person has to lie to his or herself to believe something and that something is RU losing a lot, which is not true. I gone over this time and time again on this forum with exact details of returners and 2 deep, yet USF fans turn a blind eye just to convince themself of a lie.
  9. DataBull I understand what you are saying and that was the point I was trying to make to JimUSFSig. Depth (2 deep) can be a huge thing as RU was forced to go to recievers #3 thru #8 as the top 3 receivers were lost for the season at the beginning of it. Also, a lot of USF fans for some reason think RU is losing a lot when they played a lot of young guys too. It's the way RU list their players that lead a lot of people to think this. Replacing Leonard will be hard and no different than replacing USF leading receiver in Randolph, but neither is impossible because of the depth experience gained by others make it possible. Leonard used to be the focal point of RU's offense, but hasn't been since the mid point of his junior year as Rice developed during his frosh year and exploded in his sophomore year. I'll give you another example of what you're saying from a RU point of view. Last year everyone said RU's defense, which wasn't as nearly good as this year, lost 3 starting d-line (equaling 27 sacks), 2 starting LBs and both starting CBs, yet they were far better this year. Why you ask... its the way Schiano plays his 1st and 2nd string players throughout the game regardless of the situation. One backup DE (Westerman) became an All-BE performer at the end of this season with 8 or 9 sacks. What few outside of RU knew was as a backup to 2 former All-BE DEs, Westerman had 6 sacks while rotating thru with the other guys. Lewis (currently a backup DE) was a starting LB as a freshman in '05, but moved to DE this past season because of the depth and talent at LB. Also to add depth at another position. RU (14) and USF (16) return about the same amount of starters for next, but I think the one difference is RU uses their depth more at every position except QB. Also, the way RU is recruiting now they are getting more and more quality players ready to play right away. I truly believe RU and USF should start next season ranked right along with UL and WVU. The BE has earned it and should be rewarded for their on field actions.
  10. It wasn't obvious to me that you are a Rutgers fan.  In that case, you may have more info than I do.  I have done as you have suggested and checked the five starters listed in Rivals two deep against Rutger "official" site.  The five starters Rivals have listed are: OT  Sosa - Sr OT  Zutta - Jr OG  Fladell  - Sr OG  Stephenson - Sr C   Stapleton - Sr I have cross-checked these five against the Rutgers site, and the Rutgers site is in agreement.  Can you please explain to me which of these are incorrect on Rivals, and why? dabull80 At one time RU used to list the player's by the class and not their eligibility. About 2 or 3 years ago they started listing both. Rivals for some reason continues to list by class year. BTW, my name is has to do with me playing for Colorado Buffaloes late 80s/early90s. The RU connections has to do with me being a Jersey guy. JimUSFSig you talked about returning 7 starters on offense, but RU will missed the 2 OL and Leonard, the same can be said for Grothe and his 2 starting receivers and TE. USF is losing their top receiver along with another top 5 receiver. Until USF running game climbs back to '05 status, the offense will suffer without experienced receivers to take pressure off an average running game. That puts USF in the same boat as RU then. Plus, Grothe has to cut down on the mistakes that occurred when he pressed to make plays. He had as many INTs (14) as he did TDs (15). Grothe has to make more plays for USF, Teel doesn't for RU. Both had way too many INTs. Now the defense returns 7 as Schiano said in a post season interview. Beckford was only a starter in name as George Johnson took the majority of the snap especially in crunch time. Backups are imporant because depth at the college level is tested all the time. If you watched RU games closely you would see up to 17 players on offense rotate thru the game. On defense you would see 19 different players come thru. Experience can't be simulated on the practice field. Now that I think about it, Johnson and Jackson will help USF's passing game for new year even though they weren't the starters. It will be easier to replace the other 2 receivers and TE with them. The same can be said about RU who return 6 of the 8 top linemen who saw plenty of action this past season. In fact Leonard played TB a lot towards the end of the season and his backup was his lead blocker. You get my point about 2 deep players. You did questioned that in your post. ;D JimUSF 3 of those 4 seniors you mention are medical and will be back. Two of them were the starting receivers, but injuries cut their season short. The third guy was out before the season started, but was listed as the 3rd (slot) receiver behind the other two. Teel ended up working with 2 true freshmen, a red-shirt freshman, a true sophomore and a junior at receivers. Part of the growing pains you have to deal with when you have a young QB and younger than expect receivers. As all of them grew and developed so did RU's passing game in the last few games of the season. Teams have stack the box against the run and Rice still got his as Teel made better use of Britt and Brown towards the end of the season. USF returns 16 starters and RU returns 14, is that such a big difference that you say RU is a top 35, but not a top 25? RU is the one that finished the season #12 in the nation and return basically the same amount of players as USF who didn't finish in the top 25. Pre-season ranks about based somewhat on what you did the season before and if that's the case you can included the starters back for RU, then they should be ahead of USF, but that remains to be seen. I know I'm all over the place, but I'm answering your post as well as another in one try.
  11. They are losing more than half of their starters... basically, it could be a rebuilding year for them. some of you are like a broken record.  money see money do:  RU has 7 starters back on offense and 7 starters back on defense, so how can that be a rebuilding year? I'm not sure of your sources, but according to the depth chart on Rivals, Rutgers is losing 13 of thier 22 starters including four of their five OL.  That's only 7 returning total, not on each side of the ball.  That would qualify as a rebuilding year.  Money. I've explain this a million time on this site about how RU list the players. Rival doesn't have correct info. Here we go again: RU returns 16 of the 2 deep on offense. 6 of their 8 top linemen return with experience. They do lose Leonard FB-starter, Harris TE-starter, S. Johnson TE-3rd backup, Foster WR-5th backup, along with 2 OL-starters. Defensively they'll be without 8 players in the 2 deep. They lose Meekins DT-starter, Beckford DE-co starter, Giacobbe DT-backup, Thompson-LB-starter, Frierson-LB-starter, Roberson-CB-starter, Porter-CB-backup and Collins-CB-backup. RU will have 7 returns starters on offense (16 total) and 7 starters returning on defense (14 total) with G. Johnson who co-started with Beckford. I understand how some people have to say a lie enough to make him or herself believe it. I think this is the case here with a lot of USF fans. You know about as much info on RU as I do about USF. I had a USF fan email (scout board) me info about USF that I had no idea about it. It contain a lot of info that put USF in a different light with some incoming players that address some pressing needs. I haven't gone into depth about RU, but I am giving better info than rival about the depth and returning players for RU. It seems like some of you don't want to hear it because you want to believe in what you're thinking already. go to www.scarletknights.com (RU's official site) to cross check the player's status (eligibility) against rivals and see who's right. The football roster will show you class listing and eligibility listing as well as position, height, weight, high school and hometown.
  12. They are losing more than half of their starters... basically, it could be a rebuilding year for them. some of you are like a broken record.  monkey see monkey do:  RU has 7 starters back on offense and 7 starters back on defense, so how can that be a rebuilding year?
  13. the blind leading the blind when talking about other BE teams and what they have coming back.  RU has 3 starters coming back on the line and 2 of them are all-conference performers.  RU has 7 starters back on offense and 7 on defense, so how are they reloading?  how many times will this be post about RU losing 100 starters? ;D What the hell are talking about? RU's starters: QB--Teel JR RB--Rice--SO FB--Leonard SR WR--Underwood--SO WR--Foster--SR TE--Harris-SR OT--Sosa--SR OT--Zuttah--JR G--Fladdel--SR G--Stephenson--SR C--Stapleton--SR That's 7 starters from the offense, 4 of 5 on the OL plus 2 preseason Heisman candidates in Harris and Leonard.  leonard as a blocker was a huge component in Rice's success plus he was the teams leading receiver.  How can you say they aren't losing a lot from their offense?  You seem clueless.  They will still be good, but will take some time to get back to the level they played at this year.  I would expect them to begin to come together late in the year, but I believe we will be better than them this year. Must I school you again about RU listing the players by the academic year and not by the eligibility. This is the eligibility on the field as of this year: QB--Teel --rs-So. RB--Rice--true So. FB--Leonard--rs Sr. WR--Underwood--true So. injured replace by T.Brown--true Fr. Wr--Britt--true Fr. TE--Harris-rs Sr. OT--Sosa--rs Jr. OT--Zuttah--true Jr. G--Fladdel--rs-Jr. G--Stephenson--true Sr. C--Stapleton--true Sr. DT--E. Foster--rs Jr. DE--Westerman--rs So. DT--Meekins--true Sr. De--G Johnson--true Fr. co-starter with Beckford--rs Sr. LB--Renkart--rs Jr. LB--Thompson--true Sr. LB--Frierson--true Sr. CB--J. McCourty--true So. SS--Girault--true Jr. FS--Greene--true So. RU will lose 4 on offense and 4 on defense. WR W. Foster never started a game at that position. He was the BE Special Team POY as a JR. Who's clueless now.
  14. the blind leading the blind when talking about other BE teams and what they have coming back. RU has 3 starters coming back on the line and 2 of them are all-conference performers. RU has 7 starters back on offense and 7 on defense, so how are they reloading? how many times will this be post about RU losing 100 starters? ;D
  15. USF had a weaker OCS. Compare USF's OCS to RU's OCS and you'll see RU did better with 2 bowl teams in Navy (9-4) and Ohio (9-5), while only one team from USF schedule mangaed to get to .500 and that was Kansas. FIU couldn't buy a win at 0-12. The worst team RU faced was Illinois at 2-10, but they played better as the season went on especially against Ohio St., Wisconsin and Purdue. USF OCS 1A: 13-35 RU OCS 1A: 23-28 with 2 bowl teams include 1AA: 20-40 include 1AA: 28-34 USF OCS: McNeese 7-5 RU OCS: Howard 5-6 UNC 3-9 UNC 3-9 FIU 0-12 Illinois 2-10 UCF 4-8 Ohio 9-5 Bowl Kansas 6-6 Navy 9-4 Bowl
  16. Earliest would be in early October since our first 5 games are the OOC games. Let's see how Rice does with a brand new offensive line in front of him and a new TE. I don't think he'll have as easy a time as he did this season. Rice will have 3 returning starters on the line with one TE coming back. RU does have 2 transfers (Michigan State and Indiana) will be ready to go after sitting out this past season. RU rotated 8 linemen throughout every game and 6 of the 8 return. They lose only Stapleton and Stephenson on the line, but don't be surprise to see Anothony Davis (#1 or #2 linemen for the '07 class) and John Elliot (top 10 in '07 class) sign with RU. They may not contribute right away, but the future looks even bright than this year at the position.
  17. Although they lose a lot for next year Leonard, Harris, Teel....if we play them early we'll be in good shape. Yes they lose something like 22 seniors (many starting).  They will be the old Rutgers again next year!!! But in the mean time, their win make the BE and us look that much better!!!! 22 seniors? RU serious. Here's the skinny on RU: they have 19 seniors. They will return 7 starters on offense and 16 in the 2 deep. What is not talked about if the return of Daniels (wr-starter injured in camp), Taylor (wr-slot 1st wr in trips formation), and Tucker (wr-starter injured by 2 game of the season) will all be back and that's not counting them in the 2 deep. Defensively RU returns 6, but 7 if you count George Johnson who was a co-starter with William Beckford. Beckford started 8 and Johnson 5. RU return 14 in the 2 deep for defense. So I don't know where you get your info or is it wishful thinking.
  18. Name academic class football class MIKE FLADELL Sr. Jr. JEREMY ZUTTAH Jr. Jr. (1st team All Big East) CAMERON STEPHENSON Sr. Sr. PEDRO SOSA Jr. Jr. (2nd team All Big East) DARNELL STAPLETON Sr. Sr. COREY HYMAN Jr. So. KEVIN HASLAM So. Fr. MO LANGE Fr. Fr. RU will lose the services of Stapleton and Stephenson, but return 2 All Big East performers in Zuttah and Sosa. Hyman, Haslam and Lange all saw quite a bit of action as Coach Flood likes to rotate his linemen to keep them fresh. The 3 understudies alternated in 2nd/3rd quarters with some of the starters in every game. As of right now, RU has a 4 star commit in Keith Newell (OL) and 2 highly ranked linemen in the nation down to RU and one other school of choice. Those 2 linemen are Anthony Davis (5 star) and John Elliot (4 star). Davis has been a regular on campus since he lives a few blocks from RU. For the last 2 season he’s stayed on campus over the weekends with 2 former teammates from high school. Elliot has stated several times that distance will be an important factor and has since eliminated schools like BC, Maryland and VA He is down to Michigan and RU, but word out of Michigan is they eased up on him because Elliot continues to stated distance to his family in Long Island very important. Elliot’s father is older than at the average father of a child his age and doesn’t like to travel too far these days. Elliot’s father is Jon Elliot of the NY Jets (’69 Super Bowl team). Some people have been confusing his father as the Jumbo Elliot of the NY Giants/ NY Jets of the 90s. If you watch in the OT of the WVU game you saw Leonard's backup lead block for him for one of the TDs. When ever Rice went out of the game Corcoran came in to block for Leonard. RU will not get the same running or pass catching abilities out of Corcoran as they did from Leonard... just not yet. They do get a better blocker then Leonard with Corcoran. Harris was/is a great TE that RU will miss, but with Teel lack of passing for the most of the season, Harris wasn't a big factor as year's past. TE Brock (So.), who has lettered the past 2 seasons as a blocking TE, came in on short yardage/goal line situations. Brock is a WR converted to TE and he has the best set of hands on the team. Brock came in a freshman standing 6'6 and 190. He red-shirted and played at 225 as a rs-frosh and this year he was around 245. He will have 2 transfers from Michigan St. and Indiana to help out, so the cupboard is not bare. RU returns 14 starters for next year and 30 of 44 in the 2 deep. They still have a lot of talent coming back.
  19. RU is not a senior heavy team. They return 14 starters for next year and 30 of th 44 in the two deep. RU has something like 19 seniors this year, 18 juniors, 26 sophomores and 22 freshmen on scholarship. RU has 4 senior walk-ons, 7 juniors and 2 sophomores and 7 freshmen.
  20. Joe stop talking about what you don't know. RU graduates 4 starters on offense and 5 on defense. Offensively, RU will be without Leonard (fb), Harris(te), Stapleton(ol) and Stehpenson(ol). On the defensive side of the ball, they will be without Meekins(dt), Beckford-de (co-starter w/ a frosh), Thompson(lb), Robeson(cb) and Frierson(lb). RU played 8 different guys on the offensive line this and 6 of them return including 2 all conference performers. Leonard will be hard press to replace, and RU might have a better TE in Block when all is said and done. The two linemen will be missed, but there is enough depth and experience to move on without them. The defense will miss Meekins, but anyone who watched the games this year knew Foster was the best DT for RU. Beckford start the season well and continue to play at a great level for RU, but frosh co-starter in Johnson came on like a gangbuster to take a lot of PT from Beckford. Thompson abilities and leadship will be sorely missed. He may be the hardest to replace. Frierson has been great, but his understudy actually looked and played better. The strength of the defense is the depth of LBs. Robeson was a backup to start the season behind a soph (Miller). Miller had a family emergency and leftthe team for 2/3 of the season, but now it back getting reps. You have RU losing more starters than they have seniors in the 2 deep. RU has played 14 seniors in the 2 deep this year and have 19 seniors total on the roster. I think you are confused by how RU website lists the class of each play. RU lists the players by their academic year and not by the football eligibility.
  21. why does everyone want Schiano gone? There is a chance he could stay at RU because he is from Jersey after all. Maimi is not the end all of college football anymore.
  22. How many more sports will they have to get rid of to pay that contract off? RU still offers the most sports in the BE at 24. Only 4 schools across the country offer as many as RU at 30+. The money would come through private sources like the founder of Home Depot (college of Pharmacy-RU), David Stern (Rutgers College-RU), Woody Johnson of Johnson and Johnson & NY Jets. J&J has long ties to RU from family members being grads to buildings name after them. Also, current family members are sitting on the important committees for RU. FYI, RU is a state school, but only gets about 10% of their budget from the state. RU president has stated the sport cuts are temporary as more fortune 500 companies in Jersey have begun to step in and fill that void. Plus RU has the endowment goal of $2 billion by the end of the decade. So far they are ahead of the pace. The bank of America just announced a donation of $2 million to the business school to help aviod cuts.
  23. If L'ville and RU both finish 11-1, RU wins the BE because of the head to head win by RU. L'ville is ranked high enough to get an BCS bowl regardless of RU/WVU game. Florida "will get their tail kick in by Arkansas. I don't see Arkansas jumping L'ville in the final BCS rankings.
  24. The name is far from dumb. Cubuffs stands for the University of Colorado's nickname and Doug is my name. I played for Colorado in the late 80s/early 90s, but I'm from Jersey. When is the last time USF won a national Championship? OH NEVER ;D
